Is SE out of their minds?Follow

#1 Mar 09 2007 at 6:36 PM Rating: Decent
They posted this on their main page. . .

Quote:
We understand some players are currently experiencing connectivity issues. Our team of technicians investigated and confirmed that our FINAL FANTASY XI servers are working properly, and our service is not experiencing any technical difficulties at this time.

If you are having connectivity issue at this time, try connecting to FINAL FANTASY XI again at a later time

So let me get this straight. . . a signifigant number of their customers cannot access their product all at the exact same time just after a major version update and suddenly. . . it's not their problem?

They can't possibly just wait and hope this problem goes away, can they?

I am in health care and we are often told to treat the patient, not the numbers and monitors and such. . . that means, if someone is saying they are having problems breathing, it doesn't matter if their oxygen saturation on the pulse oximitry monitor is 100% or not. . . you give them oxygen becasue they are having difficulty breathing!

In other words, it doesn't matter if the techs say the service is working fine. . . IT ISN'T. I mean, how more basic can you get? It just isn;t working! I don't know if it's their fault or not and quite frankely at this point, I don't care. The game is not working for me and I find it difficult to beleive that comcast and a bunch of other ISPs got together and said "hey, let's go ***** with FFXI players."

Perhaps this rant is overboard, but after 12+ hours on one of my very few days I am off from work where my real life friends are not, I am unable to spend my time playing a game I very truely do enjoy.

Are you sure it's not your ISP?

The outage is not only affecting me, as I've seen on the boards as well as the main FFXI page, and it also strikes me as too much of a coincidence to be just my ISP.

So in answer to your question, no I am not SURE, but if I were to wager a bet, I would place a good deal of money on the problem not being my ISP.

One of my LS mates can't get on without DCing and they've tried on at least 3 PC's, one of which someone else was able to log into their account on the PC just fine. In short, no it's not just a ISP issue, something's wrong.

Only thing I can think of is there could be some sort of bug that worked it's way into their connectivity code. Maybe it only rears it's head on some hardware configurations?

This is a bunch of crap. Its not the ISP because my friend who lives 5 miles away from me with the same ISP can log in just fine.

Everyone on the internet is an expert about everything, just ask them. SE's technicians are obviously wrong.

Don't you remember all the long, drawn out conversations about a year and a half ago, where people argued about how some people could connect and others couldn't? Many possible explanations were given (Not saying any were right more than the other, just that they were possibilities).

But obviously SE is wrong and it has to be their problem and not any thing else between them and you.

SE probably wants to ignore these additional problems after the big patch and minor adjustments made in the last 24hrs. At least for a little while before really checking it out. The patch btw (which 2 or 3 yrs to come out) comprised of SIMPLE solutions. Don't get me wrong, it was major changes, but the solution taken was ridiculously simple. Leave it to SE to be years late.

Though I guess due to the waiting, they managed to stabilize gil circulation before doing it. Assuming they're not total idiots, I'm guessing that may have been the sole reason they were waiting. But the reality is probably just because they lost so many subscribers to WoW's way of gameplay, that they need to take these simple but much needed measures (years after players suggested the exact type of change). After this patch, the game has actually started getting noticably similar to WoW. At least they're learning.

I just wish they wouldn't treat us like idiots.

The statement basically says "Our tech guys say it's not our fault and you are a a moron for thinking it is."

as if we were imagioning the server problems.

So far the issues I am having are with lower jeuno, Windurst Woods and The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah. I am fine until I log/zone into one of those 3 zones. The minute I log in to them I go to R0 and disconnect then get error 4001. This is going on 11 hours I have had the problem and previous to the March 7 update I never had any trouble at all. Several ls members are having trouble as well but all with different areas it seems. I am from Alberta and my isp provider is telus. Apparently SE really dont care maybe its time to look for another game.

Honestly, that's kind of how I saw it. But I got used to that stuff due to nearly ALL of their statements regarding problems with RMT, items, etc. The words they use to present their statements really makes it seem like they believe to be superior lol. Well maybe not that drastic, but somewhere along those lines.

I mean think about how long it took for practically every patch change regardless of how simple the solution was for something popular or game changing. It's as if they think that our ideas are failures if they don't come up with them first. Then at a MUCH later date, they'll go about making those exact same solutions that players thought of so long before it. An attempt at making it seem like they're capable? Maybe, but if so then they fail big time. Also it'd be looking too far into the situation lol.

I can't even get onto the POL player without timing out so you're a step ahead of me.

If it were the update, then the problem would have started 2 days ago. Not today.

It's something else and isn't affecting everyone it seems. When I was able to log in and function, other people I know in my linkshell weren't having the trouble I was having doing searches or moving between the same zones I was having trouble in.

Ok, I've had this same problem all day long. I was thinking though there was an update sometime after the big version update. Personally despite not remembering updating this I didn't get the prompted to update today either. So I just checked all my files and 200ish needed updating. So I'm going to try that and see if it helps.

from what i've read and gathered together, it might have something to do with where you logged out from. Lower jueno seems to be a problem area and thats where i logged out from.

I had no problems after the update too, the problem just surfaced today morning -- nearly 24 hours after I actually completed the update.

SE did something overnight because I was able to go anywhere yesterday. When I couldn't zone into Lower Jeuno this morning, I thought it was SE doing maintenance in there. Then 10 hrs later I go to Dragon's Aery and can't zone in without getting a R0 which other people could. Now I'm stuck at "Acquiring FFXI Server Data" after I connect directly to the modem instead through my router. I must say, SE has a problem on their hands and they need to fix it.
#21 Mar 09 2007 at 7:17 PM Rating: Decent
Despite updating 200+ files and a restart i still get stuck at acquiring server data. They better quit ignoring this and fix it soon. I'm starting to get pissed off.

Same exactly with me. I've never had any problems at all, but as soon as I log into Lower Jeuno I get R0. It has something to do with the update, no question.

I also heard that there was an emergency maintenance this morning on north san, windurst woods and not sure others so why the main. if the issue was not with them. I was fine all day yesterday and last night my problems started this morning. So I dont feel its the update its something that has happened last night or this morning.

Incidentally, Lakshmi's "Delkfutt's Tower" area had to be taken down for emergency maintenance. So it could be that collectively, the servers are up and running 'smoothly', but the areas are experiencing issues.
