what my ISP said about this connectivity ordeal...Follow

There does seem to be way too many posts about this subject, and yet reading and re-reading hoping to find an answer, it seems it mostly the same info everywhere. i hope if you're reading this you have probably pored over as much info as i have...

the release and renewal of an IP address may be a solution, but what Time Warner told me was, at best, disheartening. When SE says their "servers are not the problem," i think all this means is there is nothing actually wrong with them. that does NOT however neccessarily mean that their servers are blocking IP routes that have channeled too much info over the last X number of days or hours or whatever. The individual IP's are not being block according to what Time Warner's 2nd tier help told me. It would block a range of IP's, and that range might be rather large. If this is what the SE servers are doing, simply releasing the IP you have and getting a different one may not put you out of the local range being blocked. i was told it may take 2-7 days based on how time warner circulates the IP's before i might get an IP that is out of the range of the currently blocked scope in my area. there's a lot of if's in this situation, but it certainly makes some sense. since vanadiel is split into several servers, different servers have been overloaded in different ways and areas, thus causing the wide variety of problems for a very large scope of users. the only thing you can really do is just keep releasing that IP and trying again in hopes you get out of your normal IP range, or wait for SE to figure something out for us.

the 2nd option that i looked into was the "microsoft network client" not being installed. on other boards i've seen people say they found their client installed already and dismissed this as being a possibility. when i looked more closely at my own network client, it was installed, but it does NOT have an active driver. the steps SE provided (i believe the copy and paste of this idea was on bluegrtr) for checking on this client simply looked into it's presence, but offered no info on making sure it had an active driver. after scouring microsoft.com, i have yet to find the driver my system requested for said network client. obviously, since other platforms are being affected, this isn't the overall problem, but might be what some pc users need... does anyone have info on where to get a driver for this network client? i'm stumped on this but would very much like to try it out.

anyway, while i offer no true solution, i hope maybe this brings some light on why some things are working for some people but not all of us. however, i'm still holding my breath every time i zone...
