I read the OP and page 41 on Friday and it looked resolved to me. Unless something new is going on?

Thsi is a new thread with picture proof of the ffxiclopedia team selling ffxiclopedia.

I suggest you read it, it's pretty entertaining.

Damn thats quite a nice chunk of change they ended up with.

Happy they are getting paid to do what they like to do. Wish they were more truthful I suppose but they run a great website that a lot of people would have paid for anyway. I didn't donate anyway so on the cosmic scale this is one of those Smiley: cry moars to me.

Sorry, it was a 404 when I went and I thought you were referring to the old thread. Plus, the front page had been reverted. But that being said, I'd rather not comment on what you posted.

People are greedy ._.;

The inner cynic will want to just laugh this off, and a lot of people will. There's of course the chance that Taj is making the whole thing up -- although, assuming for a moment that the entire mess is true, and exactly how he said it is..

A great deal of people, including myself, use ffxi info websites without ever contributing a cent to the people that run them (although at one time, I had premium on alla XD)
People use sites like somepage and KI despite gilbuying ads that pop up.

Although... if BG goes through with its promise of making a BGwiki, I think I'll use that instead of the current one. No money out of my pocket, certainly, in either case. People will remain greedy and dishonest, and I doubt it will change the world on a grand scale if Taj's antics prove to be the downfall of ffxiwiki.

....although, in case they do, it will be a very, very funny thing. In the ethereal world of teh internetz, where the individual can matter, maybe dishonesty can be dealt with appropriately.

Assuming this is true (I'd like independent confirmation), defacement and account hacking is illegal (not to mention privacy violations). So, while I may stop visiting the wiki, I don't like that Taj is getting praised for breaking the law.

Provided it isn't all an epic shoop,

I'm very disappointed in FFXIclopedia.

Particularly as a donor.

Thank you for pointing this out. Especially since it is BG we are talking about. I'd rather have ffxiclopedia in the hands of these deviant @#%^s than anyone who runs BG or is affiliated with them.

While they were a bit greedy and underhanded in the transfer process and donations, it is still nothing compared to the overwhelming elitist, presumptuous, unprofessional, and overall pompous attitudes stemming from the BG administrators much less their followers. You are joking yourself if you think the avarice displayed by FFXcylopedia's administrative/operations team is something that the BG administrative/operations team would never show or attempt. It would be the same thing...just probably amplified to the extent of being much worse than this scandal and Allakazham's IGE scandal combined.

You are also correct in stating people take information sites like this one, somepage, and FFXIcylopedia for granite. If they didn't exist you would be stuck buying the lovely 2004 Brady guide and following their instructions for everything.

What? I want my free copy of Wings of the Goddess Smiley: laugh

It's the internet love, let's try not to take everything so life and death. When ffxiclopedia starts killing puppies for every hit they get on the site, we'll talk.

I don't agree with what I'm being told they did but I will still continue to use their site because I love how easy it is to navigate. And I most certainly do not agree with how this information was apparently obtained. The fact that people apparently worship the guy for doing it is what's amazing to me. I guess that's the only way to insure he doesn't come after you next eh?

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'll probably get rated down to show proof of my pre-cog abilities. I have an interview coming up with Ms. Cleo

Between me, you, and the browsing population of alla, i would be *very* wary of any ffxicyclopedia info over the next few weeks.

Not because of any fraud, but because of the uh, avenging vigilantes inspired by this stuff.

Let's do some math.

I'm going to be generous. The wealth of text on FFXIcylopedia would probably span throughout a normal college text book. Now, I spend about 75~150 dollars per book/packet on textbooks each semester.

Assuming this information was printed and sold:

500,000 people

http://memorycard.blogs.com/memorycard/2007/06/ffxi-census.html

50 dollars per book (being generous..)

$25,000,000 USD dollars (without taxes)

This is if everyone who played FFXI bought a copy. But, you can still see that 12K is a drop in the bucket compared to 25 MILLION dollars.

Now add in the fact that this information, unlike text books, can be edited BY THE USER BASE so that it does not become out of date (like most text books do)...well that adds a whole new depth to the amount of money to be made. New text books are issued what? Every 5~7 years? That is also being generous. Seems more like 3-4 to me.

So yeah...every 5~7 years you'd be issuing the same thing with updated information at the same price and making the same amount of money.

Getting it yet? I hope so. Like I said, another hissy fit.

So they wanted to profit from their efforts...and they did.

And the site gets more bandwidth. Bandwidth doesn't grow on trees you know.
I don't get the big deal.

With anything like that you'd have to put yourself in their shoes. Either they
a) tell you everything right away, then get /raided with crap everyday from people who are still in high school and say omg sellouts!

or....

b) keep it quiet and just get on with the business of keeping the site from being overrun bandwidth wise....as well as possibly getting paid to just be on wiki editing it, making it a better site for people looking to get information about ffxi.

(shrugs) Everyones entitled to their opinions i suppose.

I can only imagine the billions and billions that the telephone companies lose a year to giving out phonebooks to all of their customers.

but... it's the MAN!

I personally read through as much of that site as I could, and honestly, I couldn't find the energy to care. Can someone please explain to my why this is a matter of importance other than Taj getting /butthurt and using his intarweb skillz to make it a priority?
