Tonight I did the ladybug quest given out by Wyatt in S. Sandy in the past. The object of the quest was to farm 4 ladybug wings and trade them to the npc for a small reward.

After I finished that quest I decided to talk to Atelloune, a npc in the same spot as Wyatt but in the present. I decided this because I remembered the npc kept asking if we had run into sandworms or ladybugs.

To my surprise she asked me to get her a ladybug wing to prove someone's grandfather right. After I farmed the wing and traded to her, she told me one of the reasons the ladybug went extinct was because many people farmed their wings for armor and other military purposes in the past.

Its interesting to see how SE designed some of the quests to link together through the actions you take in the past. Gives it a bit more realism.

Btw, the reward from Atelloune was a pair of level 1 rare/ex Trainee Gloves, which give Bonecrafting +1.

Edit: Added link to gloves, im not sure what activates the latent yet.

The quest "Dawn of Delectability" also goes from past to present and gives Trainee Knife +1 cooking skill. I hope this pattern continues. ^^

The Dawn of Delectability only has 1 NPC, Ranpi-Monpi and starts in the past where the cooking guild would be (E-9) Windy Waters. After talking to him in the past talk to him in the present. He is found in the cooking guild now (same position). I'll let you read the story but he needs one of each of the following items:

1. dragon fruit (obtained by logging Fort Karugo-Narugo cacti)
2. walnut (logging Jugner Forest [S]
3. Bastore Sweeper (a crayfish that can be fished in Battalia [S] with a sinking minnow)
4. pepperoni (a synthed cooking item)
Crystal: Fire
Yield: 1
Black Pepper x1
Buffalo Meat x1
Giant Sheep Meat x1
Kazham Peppers x1
Oak Log x1
Rock Salt x1
Sage x1

After turning in items to him in the current day wait until the Vana day changed and get a key item. Talk to him in the past and get another key item. Talk to him in the present one last time and get the knife. Enjoy! ^^

Edit: cooking skill not posted because it is not listed atm

Sweet, I was wondering where the trainee items were found.

I hope SE adds a Trainee item for each craft that deals with past-present chain quests like that :)

Maybe by being in the past?

Just tested:

Cooking skill 32, attempted to synth Apple Pie with lizard egg (cap @48, 16 levels above). Could not synth with knife uneqipped (formula is beyond current craft skill level). Equipped knife, and it allowed me to synth.

Windsday, 6:40, Waxing Gibbous 83% as a 75 BST/BLM in Port Bastok (yes, present-day!); Sigil was on.

EDIT: Exact moon value

Hmmm.

Did you have Signet (or the Sigil, right for WoTG)?

Yes, Sigil (past version of Signet) was on.

EDIT: Will attempt when Sigil wears as well

Hmm... I'm wondering if the latent is dependant on having a low craft skill level. Has anyone at Journeyman or above tested them yet? Or Artisan?

These items are both named "Trainee.." and are considerably easier to get than any of the Guild Point craft boosting items. Seems odd and unlikely that SE would just increase a veterans craft by one without making them work very hard for it.

Sigil didn't wear before I had to log last night. Results will be in for the Sigil test this afternoon.

Thanacus, did you have synth support on at the time of your testing?

I'm also very curious about this; also currently working on the quest.

I have to go fishing and logging but I should have one soon..this knife sounds easier than leveling Ouch Ninja and trying to get a hocho. IF it'd help a high level cook like me.

No, the only effect I was under was Sigil at the time.

You didnt have to wait for sigil to wear, you could just grab signet to replace it.

True, but having no effects on would make an overall better control for the test.

Ok. I got the knife.

Took me a while since the dragon fruits are like 50k each on midgard (so I said ***** that and logged it myself), haven't tested it yet. I'll see what I can do once I sell some stuff.. (I made the pepperoni myself. The recipe makes a stack so I'm selling the leftovers.)

At worst it's something to wear with my hat/apron ^^

Tested with the same situation as before, but no Sigil for the same effect (latent +1 was in effect in present day Bastok).

This sounds like a good idea to test on, if there are any 60+ cooks willing to give it a go.

I'd test it out if I was at home... unfortunately I'm not and won't be back til Dec. 4th (Still haven't even purchased WoTG). Been gone for 2 weeks.

Edit:
Though, I'll admit that if I can't get the +1 skill I will be disappointed :(

I can try testing it. Just have to find the time/gil. My cooking is 95 (Veteran)..I'll do it without hat and apron. ^^ (if the latent kicked in, it'd be +3 and not +2)

At worst, it's a cool looking knife. Screams "CHEF's KNIFE" to me, which is good for the looks at least. ^^

Oh, if someone a bit lower can test that knife, it'd prolly work better. By all means, do that. ^^

Anyway, test item will be my current skillup; that's sweet rice cakes. That is 5 levels over my current level, I'll do break VS success with that. Just give me some time to find fresh mugwort and work up a little gil first.

I'm going to perform a test using the bonecraft gloves, since the are both trainee gear i'm positive they have the same activating agent.

at 65.3 bonecraft right now, going to attempt a level 81 synth with nothing, then with only gloves, and then with only bonecraft specs.

Results:

With Trainee Gloves I couldn't craft, while Protective spectacles allowed me to.
