FFXI Mission and Quest Discussion Forum: Questions and comments regarding missions and quests
Does anyone have any information on Expeditionary Force quests? My ls and I are having some trouble deciphering the notes and understanding what to do for them.
Do they involve killing NM's in the region? or finding hidden treauses?
I can't find information online. if anyone has a website with some helpful info about exp forces, I'd love the address.
thanks :)

Once you get teleported to the EF area, search for the beastmens banner. When you are ready, click the banner and it will spawn about 4 mobs. Kill the mobs and you win.

That is only half of the mission. You have to raid the enemy's treasure chest. As far as I know, once you killed all the monsters, there is "supposed" to be a chest where you can finish the second part of the mission. I have done E.F. 5 times and I haven't been able to find the chest. 5 times and haven't been able to finish the E.F. If anyone has a japanese friend, ask them. They have to know.

5 times?!? How did you kill the mob one time? I tried the dunes EF and got pounded hard by the mob. Any ideas or suggestions on what we should do would be great. Also, can we have an alliance for this or only one party? I want to do this quest, but my linkshell's first attempt was a disastor.
p.s. any idea what level these mobs are?

I have a friend who tried the EF in the penninsula. Can't recall details, but one fun thing:
Goblin Ranger can apparently charm players :D fun.

So did you never get the chests open? Did you need a thief?

So did you never get the chests open? Did you need a thief? Also, do the banners move around or do they sometimes not available. I tried the yagudo one, lost, and tried again and the banner wasnt there. We searched with no results. Can the banner leave the zone and be anywhere in that particular Region??

tried the dunes EF... it was in J-6 near the back... i had no idea what our warrior did... he clicked on the banner and bam! there popped 5 mobs. 4 gobs. one of them was a red mage. one of them was a BST and he had a damselfly pet. they all check Impossible except the fly. it checks IT. we managed to get the gob RDM's HP to 1/10 bfore we died. our ninja suicided and i did hundred fist. our warrior said there was a lvl 30 cap status. but i wasnt paying attention since i was gettin raped.
i think the only way to kill these bad boys is to: stand back. 1 person click it. sleepga-> pull fly-> kill fly-> sleepga -> pull something else and then continue this... my monk delt about 20 dmg per hit while i deal about 35 dmg to the regular mobs around the area. i think these gobs have a lot of HP. and similar lvl as you. will try again once i get my DRK to lvl 30.
if you guys know how to defeat these rapist, please post.

Hehe, well. Ive tried 5 times, 3 in Araguneu (or whatever) and 2 times in Bubu. All 3 times in Arag me and 4 others put up a pretty good fight but ultimately lost in the end. The 2 times in Bubu we had 2 groups of 6 allied and we were able to kill all the NMs with major casualties. I think out of 12 players only 3 survived. Apparently the NMs elemental has a massive AE
attack that wiped out pretty much half of us in one hit. We tried it again after reviving everyone and won a second time with less deaths. Both times we could not find the chests after killing the NMS. If anyone has any info on the chests please post.
heres some tips.
-Sleepaga or Sleep seems to work very rarely if not at all on these NMs.
-If traveling in an alliance, both groups must go on seperate EFs to the same region. When you find the banner, make sure only ONE group clicks on the banner. This way you have 10-12vs5 instead of 10-12vs10.
-Have the groups tank click the banner because he/she will recieve the initial damage. (I (Blu on Kujata) a whitemage made the mistake of clicking it the first time and was taken down in a matter of seconds.)
-When the NMs spawn, concentrate on one at a time. They go down much faster this way.
-Kill the NMs in this order.
1.NMs Elemental/Summoner (BIGGEST PRIORITY! AE spells that do 300+ damage to everyone!)
2.NM BlackMage (Their AE spells 150+ damage make being the groups whitemage a pain in the arse.)
3.NM Whitemage/Redmage (After you take out the healer, the remaining NMs should be much easier to kill, that is if you still have your whitemage :P )
4.Take your pick on the Melee fighters
Anyways, goodluck and if anyone has ANY info on the chests and what the reward is for a EF please, dont be shy.

Okay, well we just did this tonight so i will tell you my experience so you can learn from it.
First thing, we got 5 people together, got the EF to Jugner, teleported there. Well i was trying to do research on it and read something about beastman banners on other comp but party was impateint and wanted to go. Well needless to say half the group thinks you just kill things like normal and we were in Davoi killing for 30 minutes before me and other guy started talking and we both remember seing a beastman flag at spore hollow.
So we teleported back to Sandoria using the nice little warp glyph they give you when you start EF and try again. No beastman flag at spore hollow, so guess what group heads to Davoi again saying what a waste of time it was to go back to town (one guy in group says our region bar was moving up but it really wasn't) Anyways, we are still way behind Windhurst and i need the CP next Sunday to get lvl 40 gear.
Anyways, group is off killing in Davoi while i go afk <GASP> to do research, hopped back on my comp and just from a hunch found a beastman flag. Well, i tell the party to get their butts to the flag in Jugner. Other PLD in group comes up and clicks on it when no one is ready (half the group isnt even there yet) 4 NM spawn and kill 2 people while the rest of us port back to Sandoria. Also a lot of us were naked because we did not equip lvl 30 gear. Levels for Jugner is 25-30 with rank 3. If you are lower than 25 you wont be able to go and if you are higher than 30 as soon as you click the flag your lvl gets bumped down so bring the right GEAR!
Now, we get a few more members, think it was a total of 7 or 8 and we go back to try again, we find the flag again (dont have locations but they are usually in corners of the world ie spore hollow, the end of the brooke, near the lake by the rocks that you cant cross to get to ranperres tomb, etc.)
Anyways, this one was at the end of the brooke where a 45 DRG was farming tigers. We get ready, click the flag, and all chaos broke lose.... in the end we killed 3 but our entire party was wiped out, we called for help but DRG couldnt due to lvl cap. <sigh>
Head back to Sandoria, this time we do mass recruiting and get a total of 14 people. Find the flag, get ready, click on it and barely kill them, no deaths. Of course it would of helped if we would of all ganged up on WHM then RDM then BLM first but hey, what can you do.
We port back to sandoria to clear lvl cap and then port back to give it another go. We split up to find flag and do it again. This time a lot smoother, everyone on the same mob etc, we easily win. By this time we are way ahead of Windhurst by now. Someone clicks on the beastman flag again after the fight was over and guess what, it removes your lvl cap. So you dont even have to port back to Sandoria to do it again.
Anyways, we did it one more time that night and easily won.
Things I have learned from this.
1> You need an alliance for this plain and simple.
2> Make sure everyone is lvl 25 or higher with Rank 3 and has
gear lower than 30
3> Organize
4> During the fight, kill casters first, they have crap HP
but they can do a hell of a lot of damage
5> If someone tells you to its just kill things like
normal (davoi) they are idiots
6> Split up groups to find flag. I kept my main group all
the high lvls (40+) so we could also split up and
search the flag without getting aggro.
7> Organize
8> Pick a leader, if someone is not listening to that
person or being dumb, boot him.
9> Make sure everyone attacks main mob. The battle goes a
lot smoother when everyone is on one mob.
10> Everyone click on flag after the fight to get rid of lvl cap.

Yeah thats right we owned tonight in our Expeditionary Force to the Zulkheim Region. Killed 5 flags worth of beasts before we called it quits. Never found one chest though. :/
Think the hardest formation of Beasts we encountered was WHM, RDM, DRG, Pal, and 2 BLM's. Wasn't too bad though. We just slept the BLM's and took out the WHM first. Then the DRG, then the PAL. Finally we let the alliance wake up the BLM's and they went down quick.
We had a fairly full alliance of really great players. Only a few deaths the whole time. :)
Anyways, GRATZ Ifrit San D. Hopefully we can take the region with that little efforst so close to tally day. :)

I joined an EF recently. We had a full alliance and went to Qufim.
The first banner, we had 4 Giants. It was hard to tell what the jobs were with 18 PCs and 4 mobs on the screen. Everything was so choppy and it was hard to read any names (or even keep up with the messages). One giant came at me and started pounding even though I hadn't done anything hate-wise. A few of the members died during that battle.
The second banner, we had another 4 Giants. One was a BST. Based on the conversation after the battle, one of us was charmed by the BST. According to one of our more experienced members, that was because the pet was killed first. Fortunately no one died.
At the third banner we got our butts whooped. This time we had goblins and the only thing I remember seeing was a RDM. About 3/4 of us died (myself included). We had only one WHM left standing (each group had a WHM) so it took awhile to get everyone back up. We didn't finish this battle, unfortunately. One goblin remained and was too far from us to aggro and we didn't have enough people left standing to take him on. He eventually disappeared.
Before our fourth banner a few members had to leave and eventually the rest of the alliance returned. In the end it was a waste of time and I was very discouraged so I won't be trying that again anytime soon.

i just participated in a EF in the meriphitaud mtns. it was fun, but we didnt really get it, so no reward. :(
here is what i learnt:
1.) u need at least a 5 person party. if that is all u have u will get owned. i did it with 3 full parties in an alliance.
2.) first thing to do is spread out and find the flag. there r certain places taht it spawns, in the mountains we only encountered 3: top North corner, but not near the zone 2 Zi'Tah. the second was in the very South middle, and the 3rd was in the east behind the bone wall.
3.) when u find the flag, DO NOT EXAMINE IT! this will spawn the mobs. get everyone in position and then get 1 tank to go and activate the flag. at that point the mobs will spawn and the lvl cap will be imposed.
4.) our lvl cap was wierd: the gate guard said that the Aragoneu (sp?) region that we were going to was for people ~25, but the cap was to 30.
5.) at the North flag we encountered a group of 5 Hobgoblins. it was our first battle and we did ok, only 2 people died. get a brd or blm 2 sleep all but 1 mob, then focus your attacks on him, try 2 take them out in this order: mages > ranged > melee.
6.) West flag we encountered the Theoyaguado.
7.) South flag we encountered more Hobgoblins.
6.) after the battle, get every1 to examine the flag again. that will remove the lvl cap, and once everyone does it the flag will disappear and respawn.
7.) there is no immediate reward for killing the mobs. apparently a treasure chest will spawn eventually. I think it spawns when your nation controls the region.
8.) we only had time to fight 5 battles. after the first 2 nothing happend. on the 3rd and 4th something like "windurst's influence in this region is increasing." at the 5th one it said something like "windurst's region points have increased".
9.) i think that after fighting enough battles your country's little bar that appears in the region map will be full. at this point i think a treasure chest will spawn somewhere and that will contain your reward.
10.) the leader of our group said that if windurst controls the region where the EF was done you will recive a reward of conquest pts. if you talk to the guard you got the EF from. I assumed this to be true, but now i have my doubts. i think that the only way to get a reward from an EF is to get the treasure chest. that would probably mean killing enough mobs to control the region. as i said, we killed 5 groups of the mobs, and the bar showing influence only raised a tiny bit.
11.) this means, if i am correct, that you would have to fight for ~10 hrs... so maybe i am wrong (at least i hope so).
12.) the EF for meriphitaud could problably be done with a 2 party alliance, as long as each contained a whm and a blm/brd.
13.) my advise to anyone is to ask a japanese person to help explain this, because it is all very confusing.
well, there you go, hope this helps. EF is free to do, and i had a great time doing it, even if i did not get a reward. i encourage any ls out there to arrange 1, because unless some nice english speaking japanese person tells us, the only way of discovering how the EF system works is to try it.
i did this with the ls "sentinel" on the server Gilgamesh, and we plan on making this a weekly event on Saturdays. if you are interested contact me, Hulkan, in game or come to windurst next saturday. we are meeting by the choco stables.
if anyone else has info on EF, please share, because i belive there could be a very great reward to whoever figures this out first ;-)

Done a few EF's.
If, at the next tally, your nation gains control of the region you went to on the EF, you will be rewarded. Once, I went on an EF to the region containing Valkrum dunes. We took the regional lead while there, and our nation remained in first until the next tally. I went to the guard in town, he took my EF insignia, and gave me my reward.
I'll leave it up to you to find out what the reward is.

We took the regional lead while there, and our nation remained in first until the next tally. I went to the guard in town, he took my EF insignia, and gave me my reward.
I'll leave it up to you to find out what the reward is.

I've done like 10 EF's so far... maybe more.
There is no chest spawn after EF... but, try to open any other chest in any other area after u have done EF and before tally... Your country will gain extra points for every opened chest (i did it in palboro mines). But bastok got exta points only for first 2-3 chests i opened, there was no info about that after 4th+ chests.
EF is a real fun, go and do it. WIth a well balanced group of 12 plp its easy and safe!
