Escort chocobo? :: Final Fantasy XI

I was in Southern San d'Oria.. going to the stable to pay for a chocobo ride.
I cant remember word for word, but it said something like.."escort a lost chocobo in..to, or from bastok mines. I take it this was a quest. But It did not show on my current quest, or under mission. I also noticed when I enter a new zone, it showed a timer counting how long it was taking me.
I didn't know what to do, I felt like a noob :-P
I got off in South Gustaberg and off ran the bird. What was that all about? what did I screw up on lol.

What you found was a chocobo delivery quest. The stables in the 3 starting cities have them as well as Kazham. The destinations for the starting cities rotate between the other 2 cities and Jeuno. Kazham (as far as I know) only has Norg as a destination. These do not show up in your quest or mission logs and are repeatable (once per RL day, I think - could be a longer gap). When you get to the appointed destination, you get a reward based on the time it took you to get there. The best reward is a scroll that gives you xp (like the ones you get for escorts or Eco-Warrior).

You have to go to the correct gate. For Windurst and San d'oria, it is the the one you would naturally go to. But for Bastok it is the Mines gate, and everyone gets off at the Markets gate.

When you get to the right gate there will be an automatic dismount and a cutscene.
