i'll prolly start with a big 2h sword nord and stick to the main quest. after that, who knows?

From the "Making Of" trailer, it sounds like there have been huge improvements in the voice acting since that was a complaint of Oblivion that also disturbed the immersion of the game. They have something like 50 actors doing 120 voices- oh, and Christopher Plummer has his voice in this game.

That's good to hear. I always just tried to pretend that the person was only using that accent to make people feel more sympathetic for them and that the 2nd voice was how they really sounded.

I'm going for a stealthy character.

I hope they haven't made the NPCs quite so touchy about talking to them with weapons drawn. So many times I would end up getting myself in trouble for that. The biggest thing I am hoping for is that the voice acting is more.. reliable? standard? compared to oblivion. Drove me nuts when a beggar started off with like a thick cockney accent and then had no accent at all when they answered a question. Just messed with the flow of the experience imo.

Joan Allen is doing some voices too. I LOVE her voice.

Some amazing examples of animations and spell effects (don't watch if you want to be surprised by finishers):

Here's a video Bethesda released on sound with music and VA interviews with developers and such:

Plummer is particularly amazing.

I'M SO F*CKING EXCITED.

I have to admit, the commercial that they've been airing kinda gives me goosebumps. Smiley: smile

I haven't been this excited for a game in a long time. I'm busy as hell at work this week and none of it seems to matter. My mind is already at Friday, strapping on armor and picking up my first pitted and rusty sword.

*rotates sword in hand, this will do... for a start.

I know this feeling so well. It's exactly where I am. Which is a serious issue, because I don't have an overlord policing what I do.

Same here. I was watching a video the other day and it started with one of those "skip after 5 seconds" ads. Within those 5 seconds, I decided to watch it all, and the best part was the end: Skyrim. Had no idea it was an ad for it. It was great.

When we first saw it on TV, my fiance was totally immersed in some work she was doing on the computer. Totally in the zone. The commercial came on, and she immediately looked up to watch it, and after a few seconds, said "Is this the new Game of Thrones"?

At the end, when I told her it was a game I'd be getting, she asked if she could play it. And she doesn't play any video games.

Bethesda's been ruining lives since Daggerfall.

I still play Daggerfall, patiently waiting for the completion of DaggerXL.

It's taking ALL of my energy to keep myself from loading up an earlier game to kill time. I NEED to work, dammit.

...

Instead I've been editing out grammar mistakes on the Elder Scrolls wiki. It feels more productive.

And for the love of language, I REALLY hope the people typing many of these are foreign. So many have no clue how to properly use tenses.

IGN review is up, and it's a good way to get even more excited for tonight/tomorrow.

GAH. Bioware just sent me an email saying that I could test The Old Republic from the 11th to the 13th.

GAAAAAAAAH.

I have so little free time!

Okay, so I'm going to be playing Star Wars while playing Skyrim while doing work.

I prefer Game Revolution for my reviews. They're a smaller site, but I've found that they have the most honest reviews online. If they like a game, it's worth checking out. They gave Skyrim an A, which for them is highly unusual.

GameTrailers typically has the best reviews that I've seen when it comes to getting the nuts & bolts of a game and whether or not it's worth a purchase. They're very thorough. Haven't tried Game Revolution, though.

IGN is solid, but sometimes their reviews seem to suffer from being rushed. I wasn't pleased to learn that Battlefield 3 on the PS3 had major issues that went wholly unreported on the site, such as connection issues, and the fact that microphone communication simply did not work. Still doesn't. Now, nobody's even trying to use them anymore, so the game will likely be silent in perpetuity. It's a bit frustrating, and you'd think it'd come up in reviews, but not so much.

Still, it's good to hear that Skyrim is being well-received. I'm getting quite psyched.

I love how literally EVERY review site notes that Skyrim is extremely buggy (which should suprise no one), but that the bugs don't even remotely detract from the game in any meaningful way. The most I've seen deducted so far is half a point. Smiley: lol

Yup. Most of them just seem typical humorous stuff (like corpses flying through the air and stuff).

I dunno, I've seen some F'd up glitches in F:NV...exorcist stuff. Horror game developers would do well to incorporate some of Bethesda's glitchy code.

My favorite bug from Bethesda software game was the old Daggerfall bug where you fell out of the dungeon. Nothing like walking around the black void and being able to explore the dungeon, but never get back into the dungeon.

Elder Scroll games are always buggy and always fun at least for me.

I saw one reviewer mention that his bride to be showed up on his wedding day without eyes.

Smiley: lol
