http://us.playstation.com/ps4/ to RSVP for the live stream.

Is anyone looking into this system? I watched the first stream back in February and I liked what I saw then. Needless to say S-E's presentation was completely phoned in. We're supposed to see the system this time. Whether I buy it or not, I'm definitely not interested in the new Xbox. What's everyone's thoughts on either system?

Yeah, same here. The teaser trailer linked on their Facebook page is ridiculous, though. Depending on the line-up of games at release, I may purchase this day one.

I felt like PS3 was pretty lackluster in the realm of exclusives. I don't know if PS4 will be enough to hold, even as a long time playstation fan. I found myself playing more Xbox titles, or PC (when cross-platform was available) this particular go-around.

I'll definitely watch. Depending on the cost I may not be buying until the first price drop if then. Although that game video with the dragon is pretty awesome

The PS3 doesn't have much going for it with exclusives, yeah. Cross-platform titles have all been lacking, with the PS3 versions vastly inferior compared to others (Skyrim and Mass Effect 3, I'm looking at you). With the news that the PS4 was made for the developers to have an easier time with, I'm thinking it will help the cross-platform problem out a lot. The only games that I know will be PS4 exclusives such as Killzone Shadow Fall and Infamous: Second Sun don't look too interesting. The ones that will be on PS3 and PS4 have my attention. No point in buying a PS4 just for those. I can live without better graphics.

Yup, signed up for it as well. The PS3 has good exclusives, IF you're a fan of niche JRPGs...if you only like mainstream RPGs...yeah, you're not getting as much as I do. There's some good action games as well, but like you said, most are multiplatform. The PS4 is showing promise with it's current announced games though, and with it being closer to a PC in build, we might get better multiplat games, as well as first party stuff

Games that are coded natively for the PS3 don't look so good on the 360 as well, such as FFXIII. It's the nature of porting to different platforms. Japanese games tend to look better on PS3 and American games are better on 360.

If the PS4 is going the way of the PC-compatible, then it's basically just becoming another XBox with a Sony-specific gaming server and Sony-specific hardware components. I don't think this is a good thing. A system like the PS3 offered a different approach to computing than your standard PC, allowing for exclusives like God of War 3 and the Uncharted series. But, by standardizing this, your gaming experience will end up essentially the same.

Sure, it's great for developers who can mindlessly make the same game for the three "different" platforms with ease now that the competition is all on the same page. And consumers won't have anxiety that their port of their favorite game is going to suck.

But in a world of "Call of Duty 32: Not This **** Again," and "Final Fantasy XLIX: We Swear It's The Final One" /knowinglook I think the industry is in danger of slipping into more-of-the-same even faster than it was before if you can't even get some variety in your choice of platform.

I have to agree with you, Xoie. Bayonetta really has this problem, with the watered-out images and poor framerates on the PS3 compared to the 360. Sega botched up the optimization big time. I believe it's one of the reasons why Platinum Games could only get Nintendo to publish the sequel.

The demos displayed during the initial reveal were mostly continuations of existing IP's: Infamous, Killzone, promises of a new FF. Sony really tried to emphasize the notion that the developers have "no limitations" this time around with the system. I tried to see what they meant, and all I could come up with was better graphics. Yes, the demos all *look* very impressive. At this stage, we're getting closer and closer to cinematic-looking entertainment in our games. Considering Uncharted's approach to the Hollywood-esque visuals and plot, I'm not sure I want the industry to keep going down this path. It feels like the wrong medium.

Here is a very in-depth article behind the architecture of the PS4.

TLDR; it's going to be much easier to develop on (and optimize) than the PS3 was. I have great hopes for the PS4.

Great article, Wint. I'm giving it a read now. The unified architecture does sound amazing. I never did much reading on any literature for the PS3's architecture, so I'm wondering why Sony chose power over familiarity for that console.

While the PS3 doesn't have a huge library of AAA exclusives, I'm not sure that the 360 does either. What does it have? Gears of War and Halo?

that chart is pretty off. Alot of the games taht says no Pc ports have PC ports (DMC, Tony hawk HD, MGS: Rising is supposedly on the way, Silent hIll collection while not a re-release have you PLAYED the Silent hill games on PC, They both were way ahead of their time graphics wise and look good to this day I have all 3 on disk Silent Hill 2 (has the bonus stuff) Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill 4: The room (it was still an awesome port, terrible game though) I swear transformers fall of Cybertron is coming to pc? And SF vs Tekken too IIRC)

And from the looks of it, Killzone is a good GoW substitue.

Speaking of GoW, God of War was straight up amazing....

Only XBox exclusive I care about is Forza, but boy do I care greatly for it...

Probably the only Xbox exclusive I care about is Halo. If they'd just release it for PC, I'd be all set. Smiley: lol Which I'm sure is precisely why they won't release it for PC. It is kind of amusing that whenever they're stuck, they just release another Halo thing to print money. I suppose eventually I'll hate Halo because of it.

It's not that it's some great story. It's just a decent sci-fi setting, and I enjoy the gameplay in that setting. Plus there's a bit of nostalgia since I spent a fair amount of time in college playing Halo with friends in the dorm.

The only 360 exclusive I care about is Halo, but that also happens to be the only 360 exclusive I can even think of. Whenever I hear a game is 360 exclusive, I just start ignoring it. No reason to get myself wanting something I can't run, and I DON'T need another console. My PC handles 99% of my gaming needs right now, anyway.

Okay I was looking for another chart, and when I couldn't find it, I just grabbed that one without fact checking it.

You caught me.
