Also, the phase 4 beta client can be found here: http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/playersdownload/jp/

I'm sure there'll be an English-language page available soon enough, but the big red button downloads the installer, which does allow you to select your region.

For those playing cross platform (Both on PC and PS3) this may interest you:
http://www.xivnation.com/dev-tracker/letter-from-the-producer-live-part-viii-announcement-summary-08082013/

Pretty much you buy a copy for PS3 and PC you get 60 days (30*2) worth of game time. I know its not huge but thats better then them not stacking.

That new explanation seems to better suggest requiring both registration codes to play on both platforms (or maybe you get 30 days extra time if you do register a second platform, but can still play without doing so?). But if I'm reading it correctly, it also contradicts a previously posted FFXIV FAQ answer.

http://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?id=5382&la=1&kid=67225&ret=main
Quote:
Windows only: To play three characters simultaneously:
- A Square Enix account
- A copy of the Windows version
- Three registration codes obtained from the product or the "FINAL FANTASY XIV Service Center"
*You can register up to eight registration codes per Square Enix account.

But that new link says that if you had the PC version registered, you cannot register the PC version again. Or maybe it just means you don't get the bonus for registering multiple PC versions? I don't know...

The FAQ also seems to suggest that if you register both the PS3 and PC versions (or 2x PC, which is said to not be possible in the xivnation link), you can play simultaneously from two separate platforms on the same account. That seems strange to me, kind of a unique feature from an MMO point of view that doesn't seem right.

That's pretty awesome, actually, since it essentially knocks $15 bucks off the purchase price of the new version, since you would have paid for that time anyway.

Also, it figures that my boss would decide that we're having a company retreat right during early access.

I think it's pretty neat. Basically SE-supported dualboxing.

I guess my question is how supported is having friends or family playing on the same account? This makes it easier if your partner or kid is interested and makes a character on your account. Then you can just buy a new copy and play together, without having to pay an additional subscription, right? Or is it a thing where you're really not supposed to do that? I think WoW lets you take a character and transfer it to a new account, which satisfies the old FFXI problem of not being able to split accounts. I wonder if there are IP address restrictions on the SE service. Can you be playing two characters on the same account from different states? It just sounds easily abused.

Given how clear they've been that you can have multiple accounts registered to one PSN ID, I'm guessing they're going to technically require no account sharing.

WoW allows you to share your account with one minor child of yours, and that's it. I'm fairly certain there's no way to transfer the character to a new account. Now, it IS possible to transfer characters between accounts with the same last name, but it's also technically against the TOS to transfer them to an account where you are not the registrant.

So what this technically looks like is that:

You register your account, and you let your child use your account. They like it. You register a new account, in your own name, and transfer the character to it. They use it.

When they turn 18, they technically aren't supposed to be using it anymore. No one's going to give them a slap on the wrist, because plenty of minors (even if older) play on accounts registered by their parents. It doesn't behoove Blizzard to police it.

But they've never had a "create a new account with this character" feature, to the best of my knowledge. And the account has to have been registered with the same last name for it to work at all. And if you don't use the same first/middle name, it still might be blocked (though less likely).

Oh, OK. I just saw you could transfer it to a different account. I didn't know the specifics.

I was thinking about buying the PS3 version, but I just might hold off on it until the PS4 is out. I preordered a PS4, and have been putting my beer money towards it as a way to reward myself for not drinking as much Smiley: lol, so I may as well hold off.

I'm still a bit confused by the wording in the xivnation matrix saying you cannot register a new PC code if you already have the PC version registered on your Square Enix service account. That seems to contradict directly the FAQ stating you could register 3 codes and have 3 simultaneous characters played.

I think it's going to be one of those things that won't be fully understood until you actually do it, or see it on the launched game's account handling system.

What I think they're trying to say (but can't do clearly, because of the ******** corporate hurdles involved with these account tiers and such) is that:

Registering any service account gives you 30 days of game time.

When you register a PC account to your PS3 account, or your PS3 account to your PC account, you choose if you want this to be the same service account, or a new one. By making it a new one, you get 30 days on that new account, but do not get a time credit on the old one. But you will be able to play those two services at the same time (but not access the other services' characters). If you add it to the existing service account, you cannot access the PS3 and PC versions at the same time, but you get an additional 30 days (accessible from either service), and can access your characters from either service.

You can only have one PS3 service active to any SE account, period. If you want to multibox, you'll have to do it with multiple PS3s (which I assume would be possible for the tech savvy).

HOWEVER, you ARE able to register additional PC service accounts to a single SE account. Much like registering your PS3 as a new service, instead of a service extension (which won't be possible with the PC).

So you CANNOT register a new PC service to an existing PC service for an additional 30 days of game time. But you CAN create a new PC service that will get its own 30 days of game time (without any credit to your original service). And you may have up to 8 total service accounts (so either up to 8 PC accounts, or up to 7 PC accounts and 1 PS3 account).

I think you're getting confused because that article was only attempting to address how game time would work with having multiple services within a single service account, what services could be added to a single service account, and how it would work for adding additional services (meaning, they wanted it to be clear there was a maximum of two services on one account, and that they had to be different services).

Nah In FFXI I only had 1 account with 1 character I dont see FF14 being much difference since you can change at will. But I might make a character on the 'Zam' server and one my friends from FF11 Titan server (They're choosing Sarageras or however its spelt)

Well, I want one account, with one character, on two platforms.

It'll probably take me a while to figure out what race/city I want. But otherwise, just the one.

Installing windows 7 and an SSD seems to have increased my 1920x1080 HIGH score by around 1000 points on the character creation benchmark. Went from 3600 to 4600.

Edit:
Plugging in my laptop seems to have increased that to 4900. I forgot it wasn't plugged in when I ran it.

i7 2.4Ghz processor
8GB RAM
GTX 660M

Purchased it so I could play some games on it. I am expecting to spend 8-10 weeks trapped in a hotel 10 hours away from home at the end of the year, and definitely want a computer with me to play my video games.

With an Non- Overclocked i5-3750k (3.4Ghz) and a Geforce 660 2GB Im getting 9.5k scores at High Settings(maybe Ultra cant remember). Im running 8 gig ram and Off a SSD.
If your running an i7, even with a laptop you should get better i would expect the 7-8k mark. Change your powersetting to High performance while Plugged in and see if you get a better score.

My Wifes laptop (Core 2 Dou 2.2 Ghz, 4 gig ram, Geforce 240M) was scoring in the 3.5k range at 720p.

Edit: Also I was just wondering about the preinstall since Phase 4 starts on Thursday for those from earlier Betas. I figured they would start Installing around now to stop the huge influx come Thursday/Friday

Nope, still just under 5000 with 1080 selected and High Laptop settings.

Pretty sure the 2.4GHz is playing a roll in that, even if it's an i7

Farting around, looking at benchmark scores, I'm seeing some similar-spec'd laptops coming in mid 5000's on Maximim, at 720p. Even on a 17" screen, 720p should look fine. I mean, obviously it's your choice, but I'd probably give it a run and see how you like it.

Not a whole lot of mobility GPUs on this list, but some benchmark scores on maximum preset, 1080p to compare your own to: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao70YcZoNX_zdHpER085M1hXOW0yeFF5a3ZtQmI0TkE#gid=0

I haven't gotten my early access code from gamestop yet. This displeases me.

Of course, my boss decided we were having a retreat the day before launch. That also displeases me.
