So I just bought a game on Origin Follow
What game? I have about 20 games on Origin and never had an issue.
Edit: I'm not assuming you didn't have problems. I'm more curious if there's a game I should avoid since my experiences so far have been trouble free.

I've never had any technical issues with Origin, and I can't say I've heard of many.
I dislike Origin because it annoys me to have a segment of my games partitioned off into another service. It also has lower potential for sales than Steam does.

Yeah, I never bother looking at Origin's store. But when I buy a game on Amazon or some other service and it's Origin, I don't worry about it. If I'm planning on playing it soon, I'll just make a point of installing it when I buy it so the icon is ready on my desktop. Same with Uplay. I actually like the visuals of Origin & Uplay's library client more than Steam's.

Yeah, I see plenty of Origin sales from retailers. Just never bought anything from Origin directly except for maybe one piece of DLC.
They also need to get rid of freaking Bioware Points and just use a normal DLC pricing model for those. Because I'm getting real tired of those never being bundled or going on sale...

DA:2. I'm playing all of the unloved, rushed to release rpg sequels. Just got me done with the second kotor.
I still haven't managed to convince the launch dlc auto-installer that DA:2 is actually installed, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually. I might have better luck with a torrent than the stuff I downloaded from the Bioware site.
I actually have ME3 on Origin, too, though I bought that on cd for some reason (a sale, maybe?) and this is the first thing I actually bought and downloaded through Origin.

I'm lucky that I didn't have my DA series broken up, because I first played it on the PS3 before buying the pc bundle for dirt cheap.
Though the first Mass Effect I got through Steam. I still set it up to be listed in my Origin library, but it is annoying.

I got a free copy of the new SimCity with my last MB purchase and I had to download it through Origin. Sucks there is no way to open up Simcity without Origin poping up spamming me with an advertisement for a new Sims 3 expansion or some nonsense. I have all ready had a situation where Origins servers were lagging one night and I couldn't play my single player video game....

Hah, I actually prefer it so far. I couldn't stand Alistair or Morrigan whereas only my obligatorily annoying sibling is getting on my nerves so far. Plus, the plot isn't as played out. On the other hand, I'm keenly aware that a lot of the complaints people have wouldn't really have manifested yet (e.g. repeating area design) etc etc. I'm prepared to start hating this game at the drop of a hat.

I love Alistair and Morrigan.
And just a quick FYI, if you play as a Rogue or Warrior, Carver dies instead. And Bethany is clearly the superior sibling.

I remember having issues with origin with the dragon age stuff too. I don't really have the foggiest idea what it was about in retrospect, but I remember the frustration. Something about the installation caused me grief though, I'm almost positive.

Are there any PC game these days that don't require Steam, Origin or any of the other services to be activated/played? Witcher 1 and 2 and GOG are the only ones I know of.

Alan Wake games were available DRM free. And about a bajillion indie titles. But most major releases naturally have DRM which these days means client services and/or activation.

Most games activate on one of those platforms, yes. Partly because of the DRM, partly because it means they don't need to manage the digital distribution (or manage it separately).
It's also become increasingly desirable. I bought a few games from the DRM-free sale, and the fact that they don't even appear in my game library on Origin or Steam makes me vastly less likely to play them.
