Mipps, whilst I agree with you, I kinda understand where Fyn is coming from too.

Whenever you choose to cast Auspice, you're doing what you do with any other AoE. I have a similar issue with Cura. Now, I agree totally that the less people there are involved, the more Auspice is going to make a difference and, that now there is an enhancement to it that we should use it. I'm trying to reprogramme myself to use it more consistently rather than the odd circumstance, as +15 or +20 cannot be ignored.

Pre-Abyssea I would use Auspice on specific mobs or in specific situations only. I agree with Fyn that you had to weigh up the cost/benefit of the spell. You can pretty much always start with it but if there are 18 people smacking one mob, especially if they're not all getting auspice (pre EAF feet) then it probably didn't make enough difference... to bother.

Auspice was pretty awesome for Salvage for example but I never bothered in Dynamis. If you have Misery up because you're likely to be hit with spammy AoE status then you should hit Auspice anyway. In situations like for example Bukhis, you don't want to lose your cruor buffs or for mobs which do big AoE damage then I don't always think its worth running in to cast Auspice in a full alliance situation. Whilst much of Abyssea is low manned (and I do a lot of it outside ls events) we still have full alliance events. Sure inside Abyssea we tend now to split up across mobs but not always or we need the proc'ers so end up not bothering. Also, we still do stuff outside of Abyssea.. admittedly not as much as we used to!

Would I use Auspice in a duo? Absolutely. Should I use Auspice 80% of the time? Probably. But I get where Fyn is coming from - WHM is so powerful as a healer that its quicker and safer to slap on the fix sometimes.

With the arrival of the EAF and the move to more low man stuff I think it should now be a staple but I'll be honest and say it hasn't always been for me. Let alone the hassle of being a Barspells girl, so wanting solace up. Unfortunately what WHM is best for in Abyssea in larger group settings is effective cure bombing. No one can keep up with 50% cure potency Cure V and VI with EAF +2 body. We're designed to be pure HP machines. Sure, I haste/na/buff/enfeeble/nuke etc and love the chance to use all aspects of my job but honestly, in Abyssea - its almost the case that unless you're lowmanning you're a curebot. The biggest, baddest curebot there is.

I'm being a little flippant, people know how seriously I take my WHM...

It's not really that as much as:

I don't know about what kind of piss ants you're fighting, but chances are they're not using anything threatening enough to bother with things like Auspice either.

Unfortunately statements like this irritate me cause their so vague about what they consider a hard fight compared to how I consider a fight. I tend to go out of my way to value buffs available. Especially with the free time between abilities and the level of Refresh in abyssea makes it feel that 'I couldn't be bothered with it' isn't a proper excuse and more so in a smaller groups.

Oh I agree entirely.

I believe that part of the Auspice placebo is that mobs don't burn TP ASAP until lower percent HPs. The reduced WS rate perceived at the beginning of the fight when you toss Auspice up for the hell of it isn't necessarily Auspice's work. And then, when Auspice goes down, the mob is usually a tier or two into its WS speed AI, and viola, Auspice placebo removed.

Just popping in for a quick question regarding what a typical atma setup is for WHM [in different situations if applicable]. I assume it's something like MM + Allure, not sure about a third one however.

I use mm always. I also use rescuer for the fc, cure pot to cap potency w/ emp body, and the mdb doesnt hurt. My last choice is apoc. Since I low man alot the TA is good for proccing red(and if needed blue), Quickast is useful too and procs quite often, and the rr is awesome.

Minikin is everyone's no-brainer. After that, it's your pick. I generally mix Minikin+Undying with one other atma:

Ambition
Merciless Matriarch
Future Fabulous

Minikin + Undying + Ambition is my default combo.

If I'm doing something that's really hard to enfeeb, I might drop Ambition for Matriarch. Between Matriarch & Undying, I can land enfeebs on pretty much anything.

If I'm doing something really hard like Shinryu or Rani, then I'll bust out Future Fabulous.

Allure is honestly not that great of an atma in my humble opinion. It's great if your selection is limited, but there are much better options.

Does the trials to get Surya's look harder than it actually is for a WHM to do?

Just finished off a trial for my PUP, so I'm looking at the trial line for Surya's. Seems like most of it would be far more simple if I had a BLM or RDM at 90. WHM aren't exactly known for their prowess with killing things with a staff =P

As a WHM, there are at least a few trials you'll definitely want help with. There were a few that jump out from my memory:

Light Damage killshots vs. Beasts - I had a SAM friend help me on this one. He'd bring them down low and I'd Holy/Ban3 killshot.

Elementals on Lightsday - Did this one in West Sarutabaruta [S] on Yagudo spirits. Every time I went, there were BLMs out there one-shotting spirits so I just stood around refreshing them with Diabolos and leeching points.

Bottled Pixies - Had someone at the entrance to Castle Oztroja [S] killing the high priest. I would Recall-Meriph, take the bottled pixie from the high priest, then Recall-Jugner, run to the outpost, outpost over to Grauberg, go release the pixie, and Recall-Meriph again. The whole process usually takes about 5 minutes, which is the repop time for Yagudo High Priest so it worked great!

I just set my homepoint in Bastok [S] and warped back. But a friend makes all the difference for that one.
