Cure Potency StaveFollow

#1 May 12 2011 at 1:12 PM Rating: Good
I have been slowly but surely working on my cure potency stave and in an attempt to be proactive, I went to Castle Oztraja (S) to collect some Bottled Pixies, only to find they are rare/ex. Smiley: mad

So basically I just wanted to find out from y'all ... do I seriously have to kill the Yagudo HP, go to Grauberg (S) drop off the bottled pixie, then come back and do it again 10x for the first trial and then 15x for the 2nd? Am I missing something here?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, that is exactly how it works. While my main job is whm, I did those trials as summoner and used a ton of recall scrolls to get me back to town quicker. The first trial was completely done this way. The 2nd trial, fortunately it was during the time of the big update patch where nobody knew alot about getting the new Kindred Crests so my linkshell went to Castle O. and farmed everyone's level limit break quest. During that time, a ton of fairies dropped so while they were farming the new crests, I would pop in and out and pick up a new fairy that was waiting for me. I got really lucky on the 2nd one.

For what it's worth, there's a Yagudo within casting distance of the Recall-Meriph crystal that always drops a Bottled Pixie. You can Recall yourself, kill it, and then port/retrace to Grauberg in a decent timeframe.

Set your homepoint in your nation in the past. Recall to Meriphateud [S], grab your pixie, warp and then get ported to Grauberg. Then Recall back to Meri. If you're lucky and can bring a melee friend or 2, you can drop the pixie off, port in and have another waiting for you in the treasure.

Good to know! Thanks!

Luckily I'm a BLM mage, so I can just retrace, warp to Grauberg, retrace, warp to Meriph while having my BF stay in Meriph and kill the priest when I am ready to warp back! Smiley: lol Still a ROYAL P.I.T.A.!!!

I didn't bother with Retrace. I had a friend soloing the yagudo WHM in Meriphaud, i'd get the pixie, recall-Pashow and take the chocobo to teh waterfall. Turn around time is ~5min which would be enough time for it to repop and die just as I recall-Meriphaud. It may be faster to retrace, I don't know though.

This actually takes longer. The walk from the OP to the Yag is kinda long. With Recall-Meriph you can just choco there and warp back quickly.

Disregard that, missread <_<

I did all 3 recall quests this weekend and finished up the trial just before the pixie trials. So now I am ready to recall, kill, recall, choco, rinse and repeat!

BTW -- why in the world do these scrolls sell for 300k when the quests are totally easy??

Nice going! I really don't know. I think people just see WHM+PAST = HARD. They're really not bad.

Oh well ... it was an easy 900k for us, because my BF followed and did the quests as well, since he has no intention on leveling WHM past /whm level. Smiley: lol

The other teleport scrolls are going up in price as well if I remember. My guess is the influx of people who may of done the quest when it came out and sold it but cannot repeat but now that whm became the exclusive healer of the game(Not that I agree with this mentality) bandwagoners who thought rdm was enough are leveling it, and now stuck without non repeatable quest only spells.

Kind of like I have to buy sleepga II should I ever decide to level blm.

^^ I tease my BF about this all the time! I am a BLM main and have quested every scroll I could. He did the same quests with me and we profited from them. However, should he ever decide to level BLM or WHM, he is SOL unless he wants to spend the gil to buy them back!!

I actually ran out of AN doing these trials and had to do the last 5 or so on foot. Just turn on the TV or Pandora and zone out.

Thanks for this info. I was wondering how much AN I would need to get my alt for the missions.

Bear in mind that figure was from around the 2nd half of the missions to the finish. >_> The first half I mostly completed in a scattered fashion here and there over the past year or so, so I actually used more than that from start to finish.

5k might be able to get you through all the missions though, if you're smart about it and don't rent too many chocobos (the most expensive use of your AN for travel purposes nowadays). For instance, at one point I warped to Xarc not realizing that I would need an elixir for one of the missions (or was it a quest?) in Zvahl, so that was a wasted trip. Had several other little screwups like that.

The recall rings only have an hour cooldown now so if your solo getting about 4-5 of those rings made getting pixies pretty fast as blm.

I haven't gotten there ... yet ... I am really slow Smiley: lol but I just figured I would take a crew of friends out to La Theine and kill the pixies there on Lightsday until done. I have a really good LS and some great friends that will help me out!! Since most are either DDs or have a high level decently geared DD, we should be able to plow thru them relatively quickly.

On cerberus you can find an alliance fighting pixies in la theine every lightday. It is very easy to get 100+ kills in 1 game day there.

Yep it definitely does. I got 150 trial done on one light day and 175 done the following. It was much less painful than I was anticipating. AND it served as sweet revenge for the tedious chore of freeing those other pixies! :)

This bears investiagtion. I still have like 50 of the first trial and the whole second to do yet. I'll see if they're out there next lightsday on Sylph.

I've had similar experiences with alliances there on Lightsday slaughtering those pixies. Usually starts off with a bunch of duos/trio groups, and it takes just 1 person to ally them all and start reaping the benefits. This staff was a lot easier than it initially seemed, but that's easy for me to say because I had a pocket melee basically soloing the whole staff(sans the Pixie bottles) for me.

They are expensive because people go from 37 whm to 90 whm in less than a week and they really don't want to spend that much time on each scroll quest when you need so many scrolls at once. Back in the day, when you got a level or two per day, it was more fun/interesting to take a break from exping to do the quest for spells that you would be needing soon.

Even my cheap ass - I find myself saying ah well I'll buy it now and quest it later and sell it to get my money back. Then of course you forget about it and never do it. God only knows how many BLM scrolls I could go back and quest to sell right now.
