I use /sch almost exclusively, so I use the accessibility of Accession to eliminate the need for Protectra V, since it's just a couple points of DEF different.

Also, since HP values have gotten so high, I personally feel like Regen merits aren't anywhere near as useful as Barspell. Before Abyssea, a Regen 3 could reliably take you from yellow to white HP, but now even Regen 4 can't.

I feel that Orison Pantaloons +2 kind of take away from Regen also with a good cure potency set.

A 300 HP cure 3 in light arts will cost you 27 MP and give a 75 hp stoneskin in Solace (without AF3 body)

A 475 Regen 2 (full merits + cleric's body + orison mitts +2) will cost you 33 MP.

So up to 375 HP for 27 mp is 13.9 hp / mp (provided the skin gets used)

Up to 475 HP for 14.4 hp / mp (provided it isn't too much, and no one cures over it)

I used those two to try to make comparable numbers, but regen 1 is even more efficient (but so is say Cure V).

There isn't that big of a difference these days with the pants. I like the instant cures just to get it over with, because people usually cure over regens anyways.

Get Barspell merits.

Regens, much like Stoneskin (not Cureskin, which is indeed very nice), have fallen to obscurity in Abyssea. HP has scaled up but these spells haven't scaled up (enough) along with it.

I got 1 into Protectra+Martyr and 3 into Devotion because I at least wanted to have those other abilities available. I hardly ever use Devotion anymore anyways. I'd imagine it might be used more in Voidwatch, which I don't do.

Pretty much always use MM and Ambition on WHM, unless I'm dicking around or skilling up or something.

There are NMs in Abyssea for which you'll really want every bit of Refresh you can get. In those cases, I'd be using Full Moon for the third atma, for a total of 20/tic from atma. This is my standard setup.

If I definitely don't need that much Refresh, I tend to use Apoc for the third atma so that I never have to worry about Reraise being down. If it's a fight where the WHM stands a good chance of dying multiple times for whatever reason, this is a definite pick. You really don't want to have to take an extra 10 seconds every time you die to RR yourself again, and guaranteed permanent RR on your WHM is just a good thing to have in general.

Rescuer is a decent stopgap atma if you haven't maxed Cure potency on your gear yet. If you have, it kinda loses some of its luster.

I personally never use Allure on WHM, although like Rescuer it is a decent stopgap atma for newcomers until they get more Refresh atma. Refresh > max MP, the MND doesn't do THAT much (maxing Cure potency is far more important), and if you're abusing Cure 5/6 like you should be, your enmity will never get very high. Note that MM already has some -enmity on it, to boot.

Allure's draw isn't the MP to me, but the major -enmity, which is a great keep-alive on mobs with hate reset. I use Allure on Ulhuadshi, for example.

Ignoring the fact that WHMs shouldn't accrue much hate on it anyway, Ulhuadshi doesn't even have any hate reset move. Are you thinking of something else? >_>

I thought minikin was only -10 enmity.

IMO, the fact that people don't even seem to know how much -enmity Minikin gives (I've seen various sources claim -10, -20, and -30) is sort of a testament of how unimportant it really is in Abyssea. I'm not sure most people here even realize how little hate a WHM will get by abusing Cure 5/6 compared to the rest of the Abyssea-supercharged party, unless said rest of the party specializes in sucking ass and taking far more damage than they're capable of dishing out.

Tank shouldn't be dying to Ulhuadshi until at least THREE second! And the WHM should be able to cure tank or kite (especially until hate is pulled).

Personally I enjoy MM, Undying, and Ambition. I find Allure largely useless and a filler for lack of Undying.

As for the merit side of this thread, never merit Protectra 5 and there is not much you can go wrong with.
