Any new WHM food?Follow

I've just come back from a break on the game...was wondering if there are any new foods that are good for WHM. I know foods aren't really "needed" anymore but I still want to use them, I use to just go with basic +MND -Enmity food, wondering if there's anything along those lines.

My preference is Mushroom Stew:

* MP +40
* Strength -1
* Mind +4
* MP Recovered While Healing +4
* Enmity -4

The biggest factor is that it lasts 3 hours. If I am doing something quick and don't want to go with 3 hour foods, then I go with either Witch Kabobs or Roast Mushroom.

If there are newer recipes out there that are better for whm, I'm not sure what they are. I would love to hear what others are using!

Yeah I always use Mushroom Stew...was hoping there'd be something newer! Sometimes there is no stew on AH so I'll use Brain Stew...but I was hoping to find maybe a conserve MP food or something along those lines. Anyone know of anything?

I think a better question to ask may be what consumables in general are good for WHM these days.

My satchel has ready for use:
*2 stacks Echo Drops
*2 stacks Remedy Ointment (though that's more useful on RDM and BLM)
*1 stack Holy Water
*1 stack Poison Potion
*1 stack Prism Powder
*1 stack Silent Oil
*Vile Elixir
*Vile Elixir +1
*Instant Reraise
*Instant Retrace (Inv-1 in exchange for ability to time travel? Worth it!)
*Instant Warp (nobody wants to juggle parties just to warp your drunk *** home at the end of events)

Vile Elixirs have completely replaced my cookie stash, which last saw action during the Halloween event. Chances are if I'd love 7 hMP in a pinch, I'd love 50% of my HP and MP back, too.

As for shroom dishes, I really don't need marginal amounts of -Enmity, MP, hMP, or MND. In fact, I already built Curagas to be 50% cure pot and -50 Enmity, so that takes care of that.

Next time you run out of poison potions, you might buy elshimo pachira fruit instead. Much cheaper.

However, I disagree that WHM shouldn't carry Remedy. I carry a stack of Remedies at all times in my mog sack. It's rare to need them, but sometimes I do, like if a Bad Breath type ability hits me. I don't want to spam Echo Drops until one works, then spam Paralyna on myself til that works, then worry about other people. I want my ailments gone so I can focus on other people. That's where Remedy comes in. I agree on Remedy Ointments though, they only remove one at a time so that's pointless. You can do the same with spells, if not better thanks to Esuna.

I also tend to carry around a Vile Elixir & Pro-Ether +3, although I haven't used either in what feels like several years now. The Viles are great, but if you're weakened they aren't so great. That's where Pro-Ether comes in, although they do leave you medicated for a while.

I guess I could have specified that's for all my jobs, good thing Lyl was here to jump down my throat and insult me. Tryhards gonna tryhard, I guess. You caught me.

Though presented in a thoroughly nonconstructive way, I'll address the criticism.

Item-based reraises don't require MP (which you are short on when weak after just RRing), take less time to use, thus can get back to work faster and better.

1 stack of holy waters has been enough for me on a back line job, learn2position? I guess if I were going up against Tauri for 5 hours straight, I'd pick up extra.

Oil/Powders I give out as often as use personally, also I'm occasionally Notmage/SAM.

Vile Elixirs come in handy when you are besieged by links, especially if you were already at your limits. I call BS if you claim to have never had a situation where you couldn't have used an extra 25/50% HP/MP back. Will keep an Ether next one I get from VW.

Remedy Ointments are my bad, you're right Pergatory, Ointments are superior. I must have gotten enticed by the price tag and missed the fine print ><

Remedys and a emergency RR item are a good idea, thanks guys. I usually bring echos, wizard cookies (In aby my stats are floored. So hmp is all that helps) if it's aby or deathy situation and stew if it isn't for the -enm. (Like most whms I don't have as much -emn as I used to, so that can save my bacon.) and that's about it..for bcs I bring the medicine cabinet. (AKA. the Mean BC Kit which is a real wheelbarrow fulla meds; if people want to know what that is I'll list it out)
Elizara, Mithran WHM of Quetzalcoatl
LS's: SpecialFriends, ShikigamiWeapon, Noble's, WeSayHurray, JingZen, Betrayed (Dynamis and Aby)

Still a MithraPride kitty at heart, tho that shell is gone..Also still CTY at heart forevah!

I can't say I've ever been in a situation where a single-use reraise item would be useful for the reasons you listed.

I'm kind of with Lyl on this one, never been in a situation where casting RR instead of using an item was a significant detriment. If I get up from death I usually have a good 600 MP or so when I get up. It's enough for Reraise and all the Raises my weakened recast timers will let me use. On the other hand, if you end up in zombie situations a lot, I could see it being useful. If you die multiple times in a row, you could be getting up with not much MP. Depends on the strategies employed by your LS probably. If they wipe a lot, I could see wanting RR items. Or finding people who don't die so often...

Learn2position? I guess you forgo casting Auspice, Boosts, Barspells, or other 10' radius spells when fighting something that is able to Doom? Nobody else ever pulls hate away from the tank, bringing the mob within range before you can readjust? I sure wouldn't want to bring that kind of WHM to my events. You also fail to recognize that of all the meds you carry with you on WHM, Holy Waters are the only ones that offer a clear and concrete improvement over magic, in that you can use waters much faster than you can cast Cursna (even after the recent update). Being paralyzed/poisoned/whatever sucks and all, but Doom kills you with 100% accuracy, and then everyone else as a result.

If you're getting doomed enough on WHM that you need more than a couple holy waters, I'm sorry but you may want to re-think your approach. If the WHM is spending time spamming holy waters it means they aren't spamming Cursna on the other people who are doomed. Basically you're looking after yourself instead of your group. Yes they should have their own holy waters, but those don't always work.

I absolutely do not recast Boost/Auspice on mobs with an AOE Doom move unless they get staggered or something, and you shouldn't either. Barspells are quick and you should be able to run in right after a TP move, do it, and get out safely. (How many mobs even have a true AOE Doom move anyway? Not many.)

Even if I didn't have Yagrush, if I was doomed and other people were doomed, I would probably spam Cursna on other people rather than holy waters on myself. WHM being weakened has much less impact than DD being weakened. I'll jump on that grenade for the greater good.

If I'm besieged by links, the only thing an elixir is going to do is waste precious time while actually using it, and then even more when it locks you out of casting for ~5 seconds after it fires; quite possibly the worst thing you could do in that situation.

Vile Elixir has no casting lockout and almost no use time. They're nearly instantaneous. Including the time it takes to locate in your inventory and use, they take you away from casting for about 2 seconds. Considering the only time you'd use one is when you're out of MP anyway and couldn't do anything except rest, I'd say it's a pretty sweet item to have around even if you never need it. Better to have and not need, than to need and not have. I can't remember the last time I used a Vile, probably over a year now, but I still carry one everywhere.

There's a difference between insulting you personally, and simply being critical; you were doing the former, and I was doing the latter, in case you need an illustration.

Not that I want to be drawn into ad hominem debates, but if you truly don't understand how he could interpret the below statements to be laced with personal insult, I recommend that you take a moment before posting and consider that internet tone does not translate well, as well as the old cliche that you catch more files with honey than vinegar (e.g., Perg is an example of someone who expresses criticism in a respectful and constructive way):

if you haven't figured out how to avoid magic aggro when recasting sneak/invis yet you have problems (oils/powders); if you haven't figured out MP management yet you have problems (elixirs); WHM can cure anything a remedy can through magic, complete waste of inventory and gil.

Yes, I realize you were using hypothetical situations, but the implications themselves are the issue.

Regarding the elixir issue, as others have said, it is an "osh*t insurance policy," not used in an average fight because you can't manage MP. Granted the only time I will likely use elixirs these days is in WoE, when you sometimes do not get the right temps to restore MP and it is not THAT hard to run out when you are spamming Curagas left and right. I expect Legion and/or Provenance to be similar.
