Complete Ninjutsu tools + powders guide

I thought I would make one of these to make it easier on the crafters and others who have to browse through tons of pages and links in order to find out on how/what ninjutsu does what, and most importantly, the ingredients needed to make it (especially for the crafters). I'm not sure if any of these guides have shown up as I only browse the Ninja forum every now and then, so please excuse me if such a thing has been done before. I've also added the japanese names of the jutsu for those using the japanese version, but it will only show up if you have the language installed.

I recommend you checking out Vinay's Ninja Guide, and the stickies at the top of this forum if you are looking for a complete detailed writethrough on how to become a successful ninja.

Terminology:
CC = Level the craft will cap at. (Craft Cap)
NQ = Normal Quality, the standard craft amount received.
HQ = High Quality, double of the standard craft amount received.
HQ2 = Highest Quality, you will receive the most possible from this synth.

Notes:
a.All Ichi elemental debuff spells are not to be deemed as damage dealing abilities. They are more suited for helping the BLM or RDM in the party have an easier time nuking the mob. Although this is improved a bit once the Ninja receives Ni based elemental debuffs, which deal a significantly more amount of damage. Also, all Ninjutsu scrolls are purchasable at the Auction House, you do not need to do the quests that I have linked if you get them in that way.

b.Keep your Ninjutsu magic capped. You can probably get away with this before 40's, but if your role after 40 is to be tank, you want it to be capped as much as possible.
Benefits of having the magicskill capped can
a. give utsusemi longer shadow life
b. up your elemental magic damage
c. makes debuffs and resist-downs stick longer

Ninja spells

All powders are stackable to 99.

Level 9 - Tonko: Ichi
Japanese: “ٍb‚̏pFˆλ
4 seconds to cast, 30 to recast.
Grants the caster the effect of 'invisible' for three minutes. Your invisibility will wear off if you are detected and attacked by sound sensing mobs, or if you attack a monster. Not used very often, but very handy to have. One stack of this powder will generally last a long time.

    Japanese: ‹σδ‚̏pFˆλ

Gains shadows that will null 3 of the next incoming attacks attempted on the caster. First exception to this is if the enemy uses an '-aga' based spell (Eg: Firaga, Horde Lullaby (Sleepaga)) and you lose all your shadows while taking damage. The second exception is when AOE (Area-of-Effect, Eg: Goblin's Bomb Toss, Rabbit's Whirling Claws) abilities are performed by the monster, you may take damage but no shadows are lost. This is the spell most Ninjas find themselves using often.

Comparing the Ni spell to the Ichi spell of Tonko, the Ni generally lasts 2 minute longer than Ichi, thus a total of 5 minutes.
  • Obtaining the scroll of Tonko: Ni

  • Crafting utilizes the same ingredients as Tonko: Ichi.

    Level 37 - Utsusemi: Ni
1.5 seconds to cast, 45 seconds to recast.
Same as Utsusemi:Ichi above, except you gain 4 shadows, and the recast time is longer. There are many various strageties on how to blink tank and it's up to you to find the best one suited.
  • Obtaining the scroll of Utsusemi: Ni (BCNM30, BCNM40)

  • Crafting utilizes the same ingredients as Utsusemi: Ichi.

Level 40 - Scrolls of Doton, Huton, Hyoton, Katon, Raiton, Suiton: Ni
1.5 seconds to cast, 45 seconds to recast for all six elemental scrolls.
Additional information provided by ImperialNinja: recast delay with buff/debuff for Ni spells are: 1:08 when slowed, 37sec hasted.
Full spell damage when used are usually within 100's range (100+ in unresisted MB's), 40-30 at partial resist and 20>1 when fully resisted (it will happen).
  • Obtaining any of the six elemental Ni scrolls
  • Crafting utilizes the same ingredients as their respectable Ichi spells.

    Level 44 - Kurayami: Ni
1.5 seconds to cast, 45 seconds to recast.
Inflicts blindness as well, but at two times the power of the ichi version. I have heard that this also stacks with black mage spell blind.
  • Obtaining the scroll of Kurayami: Ni

  • Crafting utilizes the same ingredients as Kurayami: Ichi.

    Level 48 - Hojo: Ni
1.5 seconds to cast, 45 to recast.
Nijutsu that slows down the enemy. Essential if soloing. Note that Hojo does NOT stack with the WHM / RDM spell, slow.
  • Obtaining the scroll of Hojo: Ni

  • Crafting utilizes the same ingredients as Hojo: Ichi.

In conclusion I wanted to make something that should make it easier on the surfing through pages, and could serve as a possible print-out for some people. I much needed it myself. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Good thread...in the interest of helping improve your guide, I will point out some errors or additional information. Please don't take offense. ^^

    - Tonko: Ichi lasts 3 minutes. Although sound-aggro mobs will still aggro you, your Invisibility won't wear off until they perform some sort of action on you (or until you attack them, as you have correctly noted).

    - There are three main types of attacks -- direct attacks/spells, area of effect abilities, and area of effect spells (-ga). Utsusemi will absorb all direct attacks/spells at the cost of one shadow. Area of effect abilities (for example, goblins' Bomb Toss) will cause damage, but no shadows are lost. Area of effect spells will wipe out all your shadows and hit you.

    - As far as I know, all Ni-level ninjutsu, including Tonko: Ni, take 1.5 seconds to cast and 45 to recast. Also, Tonko: Ni lasts 5 minutes.

You might find some useful additional information in the following thread:

Well written. It helps me out alot because I intend to get started getting my crafts up to be able to make the majority of NIN tools I use.

And yeah, all Ni LV spells are a 45 second cool down.
1:08 with slow, 37 seconds with haste, and 45 normal.

EDIT: Rate up to get you from 4.64 to 5.00 ; )
    EDIT: 4.94. . . I tried lol

I rated you up; it's a great little post other than the fact that you consistently refer to ninja TOOLS as powders. Also- please do not use "casted" for the past tense of cast...the past tense of cast is cast.

Yes, they are nit-picky, but each of these things will greatly improve the presentation of an otherwise helpful post, and can be taken care of w/ a simple edit.

    awesome post.

but, i am curious of one thing. could you possibly add where to have the tools bagged and the items needed, NPC to talk to, in order to accomplish that? I have asked the question to numerous people and have not gotten an answer on where to bag the tools. I have so many lieing around that I could bag them and make more space for myself.

The answer to that question is actually right at the top of gaidensensei's sticky "CHECK if your ninja answers are in here first". I suppose it could also fit in here though, but I think most people find this thread through the sticky, so they'd already have to have scrolled past the answer.
