Gearing realistically for 40-49Follow

Hello all, looking for a bit of gear advice. I was lazy for 80-85 and let NIN subjob languish at 40, but now that 90 and beyond are upon us I really want to get my nice full subjob back. So, a push for NIN40-49, avoiding Abyssea leeching.

I have a lot of holes in my NIN gear, but I'm also not sure what role I should be gearing for in state-of-the-game Vana'diel. Tank, expecting a traditional party role? DD, expecting to see a lot of ERon? Mage, as T2 Ninjutsu were already potent at 40 and the update added a damage bonus for high ninjutsu skill?

Here's what I still have on me, packratted away or from MNK evasion set:

Weapon1: Nikkarioe
Weapon2: ??? Have a Parrying Knife but all my other katana are really low level
Range: Rogetsurin
Head: EHairpin
Neck: ? Spike necklace maybe?
Earrings: Dodge or Drone
Body: ??? Have a Jujitsu Gi if ACC > ATT or EVA
Hands: ??? Have Okotes if ATT > EVA
Rings: Snipers or Puissance (l36/+3STR)
Back: ??? Have Nomad's Mantle or High Breath Mantle if either of those are good
Waist: Survival Belt
Legs: ??? Think I still have my Jujitsu Sitabaki or Republigar. Hume M RSE is MP, MND, -STR
Feet: ??? Almost nothing this low - power sandals (l18, +3VIT). No Fumas. PS - Are you kidding me? 100k for Fuma Kyahan, 7k for Fuma Sune-Ate? What has the world come to ><

As far as INT gear I don't have anything to speak of but it seems like wands and int rings aren't too expensive, if that's the way to go.

I enjoyed Ninja so I'd like to "do it right", but I'm not sure on the wisdom of spending a huge amount of gil on leveling a subjob a few levels. Thanks for any input!

If you have all this gear on you, where do you put all the forbidden keys?

Thanks for your input, Palides. You're probably right that I'd spend half as long just gearing for a level I won't get to be as it takes to actually get the levels I need. Can always hope though, I was in a Bhaflau party a couple days ago and an Altepa party the day before that. There are a few occasions that it matters / you stand out for being decently geared in the mid-levels!

Certainly its a much stranger concept these days. Unless you need tabs for warping from books [and warp scrolls are essentially free these days,] or for trying for a weird augment [mostly just for fun] then you are really just taking longer time. I did RNG and BLU 40-49 in a couple of days in east ron [s] and it was fun. Had a PL one time, other times just a party. It took probably a total of 15 hours across several days to do that [maybe a little longer counting repping people, travel time for them to get there, deaths, DC's etc.]

I had fun, but in that same time frame I could have gotten both jobs to 90 in Abyssea. My BLU would have no spells, but RNG would only be a few levels off cap, being capped at 75SAM skill levels. BLU I had cheap gear, that didn't really matter, but on RNG I spent about 200k getting +1 items, for about 8 hours of exp, and I have only sold about 150k of it back. So really its just up to you.

Just load up on DD gear, do a quick /sea all 37-65, and invite whoever for east ron [s] pts, and go to town. You'll be 49 in no time.



Personally I would again, advise against this. More unnecessary purchases of INT gear, that you'll have to try and sell back. Its just not worth the inventory loss or even the time. Again, if you really want to, certainly go for it; its admirable, just not needed.

If you're leveling 40-49 regularly, you're taking the wrong approach.



Firstly, sub RDM. And let me fix this for you..

Weapon1: Nikkarioe
Weapon2: ??? Have a Parrying Knife but all my other katana are really low level
Range: Rogetsurin
Head: Erudite's Headband
Neck: Mohbwa Scarf +1
Earrings: 2 Cunnings
Body: ??? Have a Jujitsu Gi if ACC > ATT or EVA
Hands: Garrison Gloves (If you can get your hands on a pair)
Rings: Wisdom Ringsx2
Back: ??? Have Nomad's Mantle or High Breath Mantle if either of those are good
Waist: Druid's Rope
Legs: ??? Think I still have my Jujitsu Sitabaki or Republigar. Hume M RSE is MP, MND, -STR
Feet: Hume RSE if you're hume, if not Mountain Gaiter's

This will give you 20/21 INT depending if you're hume or not. Use a Melon Pie+1 for some mp and more INT, you can reach +25ish. Spam the :Ni wheel and you'll be dropping 120~ nukes per 1.5 seconds, killing anything VT or lower in about 15-20 seconds. You're welcome.

You will tank in parties like this too. The damage is so unreal that you will have absolutely no trouble holding hate after two nukes. Well, as long as you're not doing Colibri, but you don't really do those 40+ish.
