Does meditate make up for this that much?

Yes. Meditate is what defines this job. Using it properly will allow you to do 2-~3 SC per fight. Depending on the party setup, you may also find yourself to be the puller or the TA partner. Most people will agree with you that pre 30 Sams are like warriors with a great katana.

Pre-30, samurai are watered-down warriors, but at 30, thats when they come out and prove that they are worth having in a party.

Although, from levels 1-12ish, they win in damage vs most other melee, but after a while, the GTK ratios tend to slow down.

Ack, sorry about that. Kind of new to posting in the forums, but I've browsed for a while. Great info! I really am intersted in the Samurai job, but with school starting again I don't know if I will be able to play NEARLY as much as I could during summer. My question is, is Samurai a really time consuming job? It seems they need expensive equip such as Kote, Emp Pin (do they really?), and Life Belt (if 60k is expensive >.<). I know this equipment isn't necessary per se, but if I really want to prosper as SAM I would probably want them, right?

Also, and this may and probably has been covered in other posts on this thread, does SAM have difficulty finding pts? I know you said in your first post that SAM really shines post 30, but I've been lvling THF 1-15 and if SAM is easier to get into a pt than THF at that lvl I will be greatful.

I think Samurai Rock, just I didn't like my elvaan being onez... I'm being a Hume Samurai, since I switch jobs alot, and they are balanced. What I really like is how they do TP and pwn! =D

hello i'm a sam on garuda lvl 55 i just wanted to give some helpful tips to those new samurai who have just hit lvl 30 or who pull alot in pt's. the information i give may already be known but i'd just like to post it incase it helps someone new to the job out.

1) whenever u recieve the job ability "meditate" try not doing it right after u finish a ws unless ur 2nd sc buddy is ready to go. instead wait till u have an even amount of tp (i.e. 40,60,80) then meditate and w/e u hit 100 use it. this is helpful in that the tp u gain from meditate after 100 + the tp gained from using the ws will carry over. so if u have just used a ws then wait till u hit the even number then med w/e it carrys over you'll have 53-55 (varies) tp. so you could possibly sc 3-4 times a fight.

2) to those samurai who are given the "pleasure" of pulling for ur party always use 3rd eye w/e u return to camp. this will usually save urself the initial hit and by that time ur tank will have taken the mob.

3) finally as i'm sure almost every sam knows about, as soon as u enter a new area or if your pt has had some mishaps (death, members leaving) use your meditate. if the downtime is more than 10 mins you'll have 300 tp to use at ur disposal.

Hey I'm Bevan a 40 sam... can someone check the link below and tell me what Improvements I should make on my gear? I'm just not sure how long this will last, I know I need life belt at 48, and I should get Fed Kyahan... but other than that what changes will I need to make?

I'm currently lvling whm and blm for tele to pay for my SAM so it has all great gear. Also I will be lvling my cooking skill once I have tele. I'm going to main as a Sam/thf since there are too many **** drks.

I'm Hume so I can pratically do any job with no probs on stats.

SAM is a fun job to lvl and I don't see why its not more appreciated.

Bevan.... your gear is somewhat similar to mine... when I hit 43 I went with a Swordbelt (Atk +10) until I can get my Life Belt..

and as far as SC's go.. I can usually get about 3 off in a battle if I time it right.

i dont seem to suffer anymore than anyone else does in the accuracy department and i am an Elvaan. of course i dont deal much in the damage department (im usually out damaged by 40+ points by a drk). and i dont notice any tp increase with any of the tp store + abilities. Is there a clear definition of how much tp were supposed to get, cause i get the same amount of tp as my warrior and the same as ive gotten fron starting my sam.

Wow! That was a really thought out post......anyway I'm new to the forums but I've been doing the Samurai groove for quite awhile now. I agree we're there to skillchain, if we can cause some good damage while doing it that's ok too. Anyway I'm on the Carbuncle server, if you see me hanging around give me a /wave! Peace ^^v

Galka dex = Taru dex.
Elvaan dex gets owned by everyone(I hate to say it but we all know it's true)
Acc>Dex
At lvls 50+ Accuracy gear is pretty much all your buying so having less Dex then another race as a melee job other then thf isn't gonna effect your hit rate THAT much.

I just unlocked Samurai last night and was planning on starting SAM/WAR tonight. My experience to date has mostly been with WAR as a DD (WAR/THF). My equipment as such has focussed on that aspect - lots of DEX, ATT+, little bit of STR upgrdes, etc.

My question is: as I level Samurai, should I be focusing on roughly the same path? Is there an equipment guide for Samurai that points out some really good highlights or often unnoticed items that really shine for the Samurai?

im a samurai/ranger and once i get to 60 i am changing to samurai/thief..
but a samurai with barrage would be nice so i may switch back

As Pandemoniums most "Notirous" Samurais, I had to trow in my two cents.

Great job on putting this together, the reason i chose Samurai as my main was because I would really hate to do the same thing over and over for 60 levels or so.... I have spent countless hours perfecting my Samurai and I still have ways to go with it. the best part about being a Samurai is having just the right role to fit any party with almost any sub. Samurais don't get any abilities or skills after 30 so it makes the job really sub job driven... What does that meen? Means i can fill in for other jobs quite easyly.

I can not tank thats for sure, but i can back up tank and be a trick buddy with first voke. this is the most common role for a Samurai, /war is **** of fun, tp nearly gets doubled, per hit damage is greatly incresed by Berserk and the Weapon skills are flying, not to mention i get the satisfaction of saving the tanks life once in a while when things go wrong, or when hes in the red.

Another standart sub is /thf, with this you can start stacking up the damage as early as level 30, you have to be creative with Meditate so you can have enough tp almost every minute, you don't have double attack to help you and you wont really be getting hit alot but sneak attack + weapon skill is really good. At level 60 you can almost replace a thf and deal a bit more damage per hit inbetween SATAs. raelly fun if you like high number damage.

Im currently working on /rng which is really fun for quest but hard to pull off in xp parties. Benefits are good with ranger, acc II really helps out, most mobs are checking as low evasion ^^ so i think i'll replace a sniper ring and AF gloves for Uchidos, Sidewinder is like pinning the tail on the donkey... But i have pulled it off with a great party set up: War/sam (Great Axe), Pld/war, Whm, Brd, Blm. works like this.
Hunters Prelude + Frost on mob + Shield Break + Sidewinder
I only missed about 2 in every 10 at level 63 on IT Cocktrices in Cape Terrigan. Equip change macros are a must with this combo and all the ranged acc you can get, but it does work really.

Next experiment is with /monk. I know i can get in lots of cheap hits in with Boost even if just to start the fight, but im also looking forward to Focus and counter to see what I can come up with.

Ok so this was more than two cents... (1$) but i had to fill in on what a Samurai can do for xp parties.

/wave to me if you see me on Pandemonium (Demona) but we warned... you might get slaped. o.O

Samurai have the best damage per second of the melee jobs and can be buffed up to be even better. A question thats asked a lot (I get /tells once in a while with someone asking me) What is the most important thing to give a Samurai? The answer is: accuracy. Accuracy ensures that you score a hit on your target. I've seen some Samurai that put all sorts of + to Str on themselves and my old saying (some of you have prolly heard it by now) "Whats the point in hitting very hard if you can't even hit it to begin with?" If you examine the equipment I wear, you can see that I balance out accuracy, Dex, Str and attack nicely. I seldom miss and I hit very hard. I'm sure someone is thinking "well, not everyone can afford stuff like that", but you don't even need to go as extreme as I have, what I use just adds to the flavor. Once I finally get my Optical Hat, I plan on replacing my Royal guard's collar with the old Spike Necklace so I won't lose that Dex that my hairpin gave me and one day (in my dreams) when I get a Peacock Charm, i'll replace my Life belt with Ocean Sash.

Just some incentive for those Samurai who are curious what type of equipment to buy to make themselves useful.

Note: Haubergeon is the best investment a Samurai can ever make (gil wise)

I know you made this post along time ago, and someone may have already pointed this out... but tarus still are one of the worst races for SAM, cuz Taru, hume, and galka have the exact same DEX, and also, Hume and Galka have more str, where as mithra have more STR than Taru, and also more DEX, and Elvaan have more STR yet lower DEX
