ok i know there has been of this addressed on this forum but im adding a new thread.....so here goes....I bought this PC back in mid June i have sent it back 4 times now for a hard hang(freeze) problem its comes up as Kernel Power 41 after it freezes the fans on the tower keep runnning and a couple of mins later the PC shuts off itself. Now i have been back and forth with the company I bought it from they have replaced the power supply and memory one time....the second time they replaced nothing said they had it running for 3 days and nothing happened this last time(which i got it back yesterday) they replaced the memory again. hen last night im playing most the night maybe 2 hours into a WoW session all is well, I get a lil bored i go play D3 for a bit before i head to sleep and it freezes on me about 20 minutes into D3. and here is the log

Well, your system has plenty of cooling in that particular case, so I doubt it is overheating. You might still want to check the video card fan to ensure it isn't blocked by a cable or one of those annoying plastic peel off stickers. The drive is new enough it shouldn't be failing, but you might want to download and run speedfan http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php and check the SMART error status and case temperatures. It's acting like an unstable load though from what you have described. I'd almost suggest doing a reload, though it could still be bad ram, bad video ram or maybe a partially bad or improperly connected power supply. Unfortunatly a Kernel 41 error is basically the generic "stuff is broke, we dunno why" microsoft crash error. the fact that it crashed when you were trying to update a driver suggests that might be where the problem is. If it was the nvidia driver you were updating in particular, those usually only crash when you have bad hardware or a very corrupted / potentially infected comptuer OS load.

If you have a different video card, try swapping it out for a day or so and see if the issue goes away.

its almost got to be a corrupted OS if its going that long without issue. That or your last memory stick in the series that it doesn't utilize often

We had a server doing this last week. Turned out to be a bad battery backup, of all things.

As part of your troubleshooting, unplug it from your surge suppressor and plug it straight into the wall, and if it does it again you know it's something internal to the box.

Have you tried configuring your system to capture a mini memory dump? The Event ID you're posting is just a notice that is listed after the fact. A memory dump can catch the actual issue.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html

You'll just need a mini dump. After the crash, you'll need Windows Debugger to read the file.

This explains how: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35246

Once you've run the Windows Debugger on a mini dump, the very end of the output file will show you the likely cause of the crash. If it's a hardware driver, well there's your problem. If it's a software issue, like a DLL, you know what to chase down the rabbit hole.

Good luck!

Well after all that i tried to use those programs but alas my pc skills and knowledge of the inner workings of them is not alot.
So i ended up sending it back the the manufacturer. They have had the computer for about 2 weeks. I got the phone call yesterday from them saying they were sending it back. They replaced the motherboard, power supply, memory, and hard drive so almost a complete rebuild.

So i asked the guy on the phone if they experienced the symptoms that i was describing. Of course this guy was just a customer service rep, and he had no idea. He just said that if they are replacing all those things it must be for a reason lol. So i says to him, I really hope I dont have to call you back when i get the computer back. This is the 3rd time they have had this thing and they already replaced the memory twice the power supply once and wiped the hard drive.

So hopefully this fixes my computer of this problem, I really play some Diablo 3 :)

Thanks all for the advice on everything hopefully i wont be back :)

Ah, then it's probably just bad luck. They say they 10% of components are bad out of the box, and frankly, one component going awry can cause a cascade effect and burn out others as well.

Say what you want about Dell and Alienware. To date I've had 2 Dells that were just shy of flawless machines. I'm currently on my 1st Alienware, and 9 months in it's been great. Most PC issues tend to be users that don't know what the **** they're doing.

I've had everything from a room mate's Dell workstation to a $3000 Dell server die after six months. I'm not impressed with their QA testing.

Really, what pisses me off about Dell is their proprietary changes to the OS. HP adds their apps to their server OS but leaves the core OS alone. Dell puts its tentacles down into the OS as well as adding the apps. Nothing creepier than opening up the computer properties box and seeing the big Dell brand there.
