Hi I'm now a lvl 59 Blue Mage in Siren Server, I leveled rather fast but not as fast as those Japanese guys who are lvl 75 now >_<. I read from Playonline that you can only learn from mobs that yield experience points, this confused a lot of people into thinking "too weak" mobs dont allow you to learn. After making /bst handy into killing easy prey, some one on the same boat in Bibiki Bay learned Venom Shell off a too weak, since then I've been learning from weak mobs as well. I just thought I would add this in, also here are some skillchains I use often in party:
(after lvl 40 chain affinity)
Red Lotus Blade ===> Jet Stream ==> Fusion ===> Blast Bomb.
I prefer Blast Bomb over Bomb Toss because it is similar damage, less MP and binds the mob for the BLM to go crazy at.
Red Lotus Blade ===> Sickle Slash ===> Gravitation ===> Death Ray. This one makes a nice Magic Burst, I do about 249 dmg on IT mobs, although it gets resisted sometimes, I don't recommend using this chain on Dark based mobs or Antican.
Vorpal Blade ===> Death Scissors ====> Reverberation ===> Cursed Sphere / Poison Breath. I prefer Poison Breath, similar damage with poison add on and it's not an entire area attack. I also heard that this WS at lvl 65 changes to Distortion.
I forgot how to make distortion at lvl 58, I know some one told me and I spaced out, I've seen a BLU magic burst Ice Break, although it's too much MP use, having a RDM and Corsair in party is freaking great for that. In Magic Burst, Ice Break bind lasts quite a while, as it usually does when it's used against you, same with Self-Destruct, it sucks when you use it against an IT mob, but although not recommended to use in regular party, it's funny as hell watching both the mob get 400-800 dmg points off as you explode. For those who don't know (which are many) Self-Destruct does not kill you, it gives you weakness and pretty much leaves you with 1 HP, not recommended to be used in parties obviously. It's not an useless spell though. As the Black Mage ability as a support job can come in handy.
Black Mage Support Job:
Elemental Seal is a great tool for Blue Mage as we have so many great spells but because of the power they bring, SE made sure we did not got over board, that is why our spells can get resisted and not take great effect as it does when the monster uses it against us. Elemental Seal will make sure your spell lands on regular monsters. But sacrificing melee stats and certain spells is not worth the Elemental Seal in a party. I simply suggest that this support job comes to service you during "God Fights", "HNM", or even "Dyanmis". I'm pretty sure it is hard as hell to land 1000 needle on Kirin, but fear not, Elemental Seal and Azure Lore will make it happen, although I still think it will be hard, but I, as a RDM main have yet to feel the power of causing 1000 damage to Kirin ;_; Genbu, Byakko etc. will suffer your wrath, Elemental Seal will definetly save you MP from less resists, and the Conserve MP trait can be useful too, as well as the MP boost blm sub brings to the table. So let's include this sub for those who are planning on taking down the big guy ^^. On another note, RDM sub compared to DRK sub is completely different, don't expect to land any enfeebles or absorbs as BLU main, but as /RDM you will get pretty much similar things /WHM gets, though WHM gives your more useful things for soloing at lower jobs, in a party, after you get higher, WHM sub is not as useful since you should already have SMN, RDM, BRD, or BLM with that sub. RDM sub gives you attack bonus trait and Fast Cast, I think Fast Cast might be handy for those long Magic Burst, I always mess up because the spell takes too long to cast >_<, just a tiny second can make my MB land. As opposed to getting Last Resort and Souleater (which I hate using as I watch my HP go down to Orange), you get Cures, Phalanx, Dispel (Important one when no RDM are around, and my god they are freaking hard to find for a party. And by the way, Geist Wall gets resisted a lot but it's better than nothing) and Stoneskin. The only problem with those spells is that it takes quite a while for you to get them, you have to be lvl 62+ to consider these spells. I suggest sticking with WAR, NIN and THF for parties. I also suggest /bst sub if you dont want to wait 10 levels later for a spell, or want your survival rate to be higher when u solo for learning spells, trust me...when you see a Tonberry use Throat Slab on your Torama for 908 dmg, as Easy Prey...you'll be glad that wasn't you. Let's not forget that -20 per tick for Venom Shell, that Ugner or whatever it's called spams it on you as it regens for like 30 HP per tick lol. So happy hunting!
