Azure Lore AdviceFollow

Hiya. I'm trying to form a strategy around optimizing Azure Lore usage- figuring out what spells will give me the most bang for my buck, essentially.

I've tried to make sense of the spell chart recently posted on this page, but it doesn't make much sense to me when I try and figure out what spells will make lvl 3 skill chains with A/B notations that I can't find explanations for.

Skillchain calculators are woefully out of date, and I haven't had much luck finding specific info anywhere.

I've also tried repeatedly going out to try them out for myself, but it seems like every time I do, skillchains look like they're triggered off of different spells at random, and 30 seconds doesn't give me a lot of time to play around.

So does anyone have any advice about which spells chain best together?

Thanks!

A decent one for a high Darkness skillchain, and utilizing only "end level" spells would be something like

Heavy Strike -> Barbed Crescent = Distortion -> Goblin Rush = Fusion -> Amorphic Spikes = Gravitation -> Quadratic Continuum = Darkness

If you have the time to cast it and the thought to use Unbridled Learning before you start your Azure Lore skillchain, using Bloodrake after the first Darkness should create a second Darkness.

The first two spells will be the deciding factor if the skillchain is going to go off without a hitch, since both are one hit spells, and Heavy Strike does suffer from an Accuracy penalty. If they go off without a hitch, the other 3 - 4 spells in the chain are multi-hit, so you'll get a decent bit out of them regardless.

This thread is kind of old but most spells stayed the same. It also includes the timers if you wish to make a macro for your two hour.

I also know there is a nice light SC somewhere for our 96 club ws. I will try to find the old post later

Hmmm, tried this one. Everything landed, but I never got a skill chain until Amorphic Spikes-->Quadratic Continuum.

For a bit of background information, I'm attempting to solo the Sandoria WotG quest "Blood of Heroes". The pld orc, surrounded by minions. I had everything slept with Dream Flower (except the pld and his pet), cast Sudden Lunge, then Seedspray, and proceeded to pop Azure Lore. Just as I cast Heavy Strike (which hit for 1700-ish dmg), the pld used his Arm Block ability. Barbed Crecent landed for 0 and didn't make a distortion chain. Goblin Rush landed for 0 and did not make a fusion chain. Amorphic Spikes did dmg, but did not make Gravitation, and then QC did darkness.

I'm almost positive that I've seen SCs go off in the past even when dmg isn't dealt and it just made the SC itself do 0 dmg when it went off. Is my memory mistaken, and this is what interfered with this particular chain? Or is there something else I missed?

In the meantime, I guess I'll go back and try out the other darkness chain described in the other thread linked to.

Thanks again for the tips and advice ^^

Edit: Just tried Vertical Cleave --> Sub-Zero Smash ---> Disseverment --> Goblin Rush --> Benetic Typhoon --> Quadratic Continuum. Right after Vertical Cleave, the pet used Tusk on me, which interrupted Sub-Zero Smash. I managed to get it off again in time to see the Fragmentation go off, but the Disseverment I followed up with didn't make anything. Goblin Rush gave me the fusion, but by that point, my previous interruption had delayed me enough that Azure Lore ran out just as I started casting Benetic Typhoon, which killed the rest of the chain right there.

I seem to be having some bad luck with mobs interfering with the 2nd spell I'm trying to cast . . .

Also, is there a minimum time I need to wait before the next spell will chain?

Edit 2: Went back to the first chain, and everything appeared to work until Azure Lore wore off a fraction of a second before I cast Quadratic Continuum. PLD boss went Arm Block crazy and nerfed all the glorious dmg I was trying to dish out onto him. Perhaps the NPC's worthless WS were interfering with the previous attempts?

How quickly are you doing the spells? With skillchaining, timing is pretty critical and you kind of need to wait a second or so before the next step in the skillchain for it to work out. If you go too early or too late, the skillchain doesn't go off. You may want to take some time and go try the skillchains on some Abyssea NMs or another high HP mob just to get a feel of the proper timing needed.

The advice above is correct. Assuming your spell hits, you must wait one second or so before you cast your next spell. If you are in a party someone else's ws can break your skill chain. The thread I posted did include wait times. Those times included a one second break in between each spell so the skill chai would get off.

If you really like skill chaining our AF2+2 hands can increase our skill chain two hour by 10 seconds. This allows enough time and also time for bloodrake at the end.

HUGE thanks to the responses. I'm sure that could have been adding to my difficulties. After managing to /shout for help on Blood of Heroes, the next mission, I tried the Azure Lore trick (waiting until AFTER Excenmille did a tp move) and just a second longer and everything worked beautifully and the NM mannequin went down by the time Azure Lore was over. It was a beautiful thing.

Sounds like doing some dynamis for AF2 hands and finally going to get Bloodrake (that, Tourbillion, and Pyric Bulwark are the only spells I still need to learn) will be my next Blu adventures after soloing nearly all of the WotG missions and nation quests.
