Will Change to Defense help BLU?Follow

This is a topic that we have received feedback on asking to increase the boons of defense. Due to the attack/defense ratio, the meaning behind adding defense past a certain value starts to become pointless, and we would like to make it have meaning.

As a merit, for example, the more you increase your defense, the lower the damage taken will be and the boons for Defender would become large.
On the other hand, while under the effects of abilities that decrease defense such as Berserk or Last Resort, the damage you take would become higher than what it is currently.


I remember back in the day that BLU could have some of the highest defense in the game. If that is still true does that make BLU a better tank when this happens?

Well, it'll just be a situation of seeing how well Defense after the change impacts damage taken. Blus are able to get their Defense very high through a combination of spells (Cocoon or Harden Shell), job traits (Defense Bonus) and subbing Warrior for Defender, but as of right now anyway, it's about mitigating the damage through different means. Paladins have shield blocks that cut down physical damage tremendously, Ninjas have their evasion and shadows, and Rune Fencer will seemingly also fall into evasion when it comes to physical damage.

If, after this update comes, Defense ends up being a significant modifier to damage taken, Blu might be able to hang in there as a tank in situations where it's necessary.

Defense is the same now as it'll be after the update. All their doing is upping the monsters ratio cap which is mostly meaningless outside of a handful of stupidly overpowered NMs. On those NM's you tend to field three to six DD's with insane buffs. That kind of environment doesn't suite BLU's unique skillset very well. Now what will change is certain NM's use TP moves that have attack bonus's and / or are critical hits (Flank Opening / Heavy Strike / Oblivion Smash are the three off the top of my head). With the update those moves are going to do insane damage though a BLU with Protectra V and Cocoon up won't notice it at all. Also defense isn't a straight modifier, instead it acts as a divider towards the enemies attack. At small levels defense can have a big impact but once you start going past mid three digits it takes A LOT of defense to make a sizable difference. Thankfully spells like cocoon and harden shell are percentage base, they scale quite nicely with high defense levels. BLU/WAR with Protectra V, Berserk and Cocoon I end up having 700~800 defense. If I use Harden Shell (diffusion sometimes) I'm usually packing 1000~1100 defense with berserk up. Pretty much guaranteed to floor the NMs attack ratio.

Well I was able to tank Aspid as blu. So, really, blu can tank. Just keep occultation and cocoon up. Do not forget Orcish Counterstance and Regeneration. Defense can be good. But not getting hit can be better.
