Question about Magian weaponsFollow

Ok after waiting all night for Quetz to come back up, I finally get to check the Magian system out. I saw a lot of nice augs but only 2 stood out as being worth the effort. Trials 68-75 produce a Mantis with +21 DMG and +55 Delay. Trials 82-87 produce Cat's Claws with +18 DMG, +61 Delay, STR +4, and Atk +12. My question is which of these should I shoot for, if any, considering I also will have to share one of these with my MNK, which has Destroyers? Currently using Wagh's on PUP btw. Cat's Claws looks more like a sidegrade to Wagh's, but that +21 DMG is rather enticing.

Did a rough comparison here.

Short answer: Mantis should be on par with Destroyers, possibly a bit better, while Cat's Claws are generally a little behind. Wargfangs as clear winners if you can get the high damage ones. For reference, Waghs are on par with Destroyers as long as you never go over 100 TP. Every 10 TP you hold on average per weaponskill drops your total damage by about 1%.

i was look at this too. are they r/ex or just ex? cause the pet acc+8 ones look nice for melee, but the pet magic ones look nice too. wondering what would be better, +5MAB or +10MACC for the puppet. ideas? im surprised more people arent talking about these weapons on here too.

That is kind of situational, for kirin or the like(if you're nuking them for some reason) I would go for the MACC, on things that are less resistant I'd go for MAB.

Yeah, point the way to the Easy Prey Soulflayers.

I think for the Cat's Claws, the MAB vs MAcc is a tough decision. Hmm. Probably the first Magian weapon I will go for though.

Well, you can get both. They're Aug/Ex. YOu just can't macro between them.

I'd say get the one that will be more use for you. If you manaburn a lot of low end stuff, or rarely use tranq, get the MAB. If you do more endgame, and/or have a bad resist rate, get the 10 macc.

Personally, I'm going for the 10 macc, because 30 mp, 10 macc, and solid base stats, it's my ideal Dynamis weapon Smiley: lol

no, if you rarely use tranq, you rarely do anything where you need a large boost to Macc. If you don't need tranq to make a difference, then 10 macc is definitely not important.

Canal, Eldieme, Garlaige have skeletons.

Though, you can't do them on Ice Weather, I don't think they get ice... But you can do them during Ice Day!

Time to start up the PUP bones parties.

I didn't realize that Cat's Claws are not Rare. I haven't made an INT set yet for PUP because my automaton magic skill is still about 10 below cap, so I don't use the Spiritreaver much. The +4 INT on the MAB version of Cat's Claws might be nice to help prevent overload when stacking Ice Maneuvers. I think I'll need something like +40 INT to stay ahead of my auto now.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to do some Spiritreaving before I get to the branchpoint between MAB and MAcc so I have a better idea which bonus will be more worthwhile.

I have 92 INT for ice maneuvers, actually. With 3 ice maneuvers that puts Fantoccini up to 91 INT, lol. Man, that's awfully convenient. I haven't altered my maneuver gear in any way, either.

Here's what I've been using for my other maneuvers:

Fire: 87 STR
Thunder: 93 DEX
Wind: 82 AGI
Earth: 66 VIT <- this one will be problematic
Water: 86 MND
Light: 89 CHR
Dark: 176 MP

The only one that really presents a problem is earth, and that's only after the first maneuver. I haven't found a situation like the OP's where I need to spam earth maneuvers, so I'm content with leaving it as is for now.

I finished Trial 82 (100 skeletons under weather) last night.

IMO the best way to do this one is find a level sync person level 50-55 and go to Xarcabard and do Fields of Valor page 1. This includes 9 skeletons plus 3 ghosts. There is almost always weather up in Xarcabard. In 4 hours I was there last night, there was only 10 minutes without weather. If you can't find a level sync person, there's a fair number of skeletons and weather in a few places like Attohwa Chasm. I'd recommend teaming up in any case. I will say this: I am so sick of being paralyzed by ice spikes
after 4 hours of fighting skeletons.

Next up, 100 crawlers under dark group weather. I see: Crawler's Nest, Boyahda Tree as uncapped options. Level capped options would include Rolanberry and Pashlow Marshlands. But I believe it will take longer than the skeleton trial.

Terragon and I duo'd skeles in Ule Range. There's actually a really convenient cluster of three Doom Soldiers that can by cycled. Be careful if you're solo though, they're awesome at spamming blindna when you need a cure.

As for the next trial, the best options I can find are Knight Crawlers in Crawlers Nest, or Erucas in Mount Zhayolm/Halvung, but it would only count if water or earth weather respectively.

edit:

Here's my best advice for what to do where:

82: 100 EP+ skeletons under fire/wind/lightning/light/ice/earth/water/dark weather

Doom Soldiers in Uleguerand Range, Ice weather is pretty consistent, although it has a tendency to vanish mid fight for 5-10 minutes every now and then.

83: 100 EP+ Goobbues under Fire/Wind/Lightning/Light weather

Elder Goobbues in Boyahda Tree, during lightning weather

84: 100 EP+ mobs, Fire Weather or Firesday

Take your pick, this is pretty open ended.

85: 100 EP+ Birds, Fire Weather/Day

I don't know where there is a lot of fire weather to work with, but remember that bats count as birds, so Ifrit's Cauldron could be the optimal choice here. Alternatively, Halvung as well.

86: 150 EP+ Lizards, Fire Weather/Day
88: 100 Pet kill shots to Lizards, Fire weather/day

I would say Ash Lizards in Ifrit's Cauldron. This wants a family though, so don't limit yourself to "lizards" in the "lizard" sense, but rather, lizards in the ecological sense; lizards, efts, bugards, etc.

87: 200 Wamouras, Fireweather/day
89: 150 Pet kill shots to Wamoura, fireweather/day

Yea... you have fun with this one.

100: 100 EP+ during thunder weather/day

Again, this one is pretty self explanatory

101: 100 EP+ Beasts, thunder weather/day

if you do it carefully, Moss Eaters in the Boyahda Tree

102: 150 EP+ Aquans, Thunder weather/day
104: 100 Pet kill shots to EP+ aquans, thunder weather/day

Aaaaand steelshells.

103: 200 EP+ Soulflayers, thunder weather/day
105: 150 Pet Kill shots EP+ Soulflayers, thunder weather/day

Smiley: laugh

116: 100 EP+ Crawlers in ice/earth/water/darkness weather

Like I said earlier, I'm thinking Knight Crawlers; either in Crawler's Nest or The Tree

117: 100 EP+ mobs, ice weather or on Iceday

Go play in Uleguerand Range

118: 100 EP+ Amorphs in ice weather/day

Uleguerand range happens to have some handy Glacier Eaters that fit perfectly.

121: 100 pet kill shots on EP+ birds while under Ice Weather or on Iceday

Uleguerand Range also happens to have some convenient incubus and succubus bats flapping around.

122: 150 pet kill shots on EP+ ghosts, under ice weather or on iceday

Ready for something new? To bad. Uleguerand Range has handy ghosts too. I wouldn't recommend solo though.

141: 100 EP+ mobs, Dark weather/day

This will be annoying, mostly because of the rarity of dark weather in general.

142: 100 EP+ Beasts, dark weather/day

Wild Karakul in Caedarva Mire, or Tavnazian Rams in Lufaise Meadows. You can solo the karakul, but the rams used to be Merit Party mobs back in the day, so I wouldn't recommend trying to solo them.

145: 100 pet kill shots on EP+ Demons, dark weather/day

Go to town in Castle Zvahl Keep

146: 150 pet kill shots on EP+ Ghosts, dark weather/day

Only real option is Phasmas in Arrapago Reef. Bhoot's are a ***** to deal with, with Perdition and all, but they're in the reef too.

Obviously, these are all uncapped. There's definitely places you could do them level synced, but that's not mandatory. Though, it would probably be a lot easier to get the 150 ghosts in xarcabard than it would arrapago...

The circled black dot is a drop, the three little red dots are where the skeletons are in the tunnel. Each is on a 5 min repop, and has a succubus bat next to it. One has a Morozko next to it too. The trick I was using to pull them was Spectral Jig -> get in range and deploy -> run away from snoll/bats -> retrieve -> Smash -> Move to next skeleton -> rinse -> repeat

141 & 142 should be easy enough nuking tigers in Xarcabard [S] on darksday/dark weather.

Currently on trial 116...looks like my best bets are syncing in pashlow, rolanberry, or CN.

So has anyone finished any of these magian weapons to tell us the double attack rate or are we all assuming and hoping its a joyeuse?

Because I do not want to go after cats claws (going to start the pet attack one though, pet accuracy seems hopelessly long) or warfangs until we really know which is going to be the better of the two.

On a side note, I am interested in seeing how often these additional effects proc on the mobs.

I'm currently on the skeletons in Eldieme. Go to the west room, sneak up, drop down, camp on the ledge in the west tunnel. There are more skellies further in. Be carefull with blood agro though. Doom Mages are a pain, as they frequently got Ice Spikes, and SE still didn't fix the -na problem... I actually died once when I got blood agro on two mages, one of which started casting AM, the other Poison... (that and AOE blind from the Doom Warrior makes Soulsoother VERY hard to manage. It's often 'spamming' Blindna more then Silence or Cure V...)

Level sync in Xarcabard might work as well, since there's plenty of skellies around and nearly always ice or dark weather.

I thought about the Ulegurand skeletons, but until now noone knew where they spawned...
