Greetings All,
I'm just returning to FFXI and a 51 PUP, I see on the forums that there has been some AMAZING improvements for us! I sadly, never got to level cap on other jobs before (66 was my highest) in the past, so a lot of the details that you guys go into is a bit confusing. Also, a lot of the PUP guides are a few years old so some content is out of date. Luckily, I was able to obtain most the attachments I needed to be effective before they raised the cap... so I have a few questions.
1. Did they add new attachments with the level cap increase?
2. What is the PUP's main role these days? I remember tanking through the 40's with PUP healing and buffing, I also remember being a DD with my automaton as a RNG.
3. What subjobs are recommended and when would you use them? I loved using DNC to solo, voke, and self heal if needed.
4. Before my leave, I've briefly dabbled in Campaign on my 63 RDM, and felt a little bit ineffective. Do people still do campaign and when is it recommended to head there?
5. Are there any current sites that you would recommend for more information? I know it's probably out of date, but I use to use http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/PUP
6. Are there any good solo location guides?

Since the cap was raised from 75 some attachments were added, also more recently since the pupdate the existing attachments became much better than before.

Whatever role is needed at the time. Extra damage? fine, main/backup healer fine.

/Sch /Nin /Dnc /War are the best subjubs for a pup to use.

Speaking as a Rdm, around level 70 is when you can usually start to hit things better but 1 on 1 u`ll still get owned probably, around 80 is when u can tackle campaign battle mobs 1on1, at 90+ as a rdm u can tackle entire battle groups - boss at the same time, around lvl 95+ some bosses become possible even at the same time as the entire battle group, and lvl99 rdm u can pretty much kill every campagin battle mob solo. On my server campaign battles still see plenty of players turn out for them.

Anywhere there is a GoV book is a good place to solo, although teaming up with other parties/allies or solo/duo players in the area doing the same page as you will be better for you and them. Just need to look on the wikki at the mobs level and see which areas/pages u will be able to handle, or go to garliage citadel, (lvl 40+), crawlers nest (50+)? and bostineuax oubliette (60+)+ i think.

Woah, great response!! Thanks for the help and advice! This is great stuff! Question 4 was in regards to PUP, I'm sorry that I didn't clarify it - 63 RDM was just my personal experience there. I'm assuming it's going to be about the same thing though? 70 Before my melee hits start landing, etc.
I went to Garliage Citadel using Soulsoother Head and Stormwalker Frame, with the GoV and went from 51-55 pretty quick! I really felt the improvements to the class, and really glad I decided to come back... loving PUP more than ever now
