A somewhat small, but lengthy achievement ... capped my parry skill on Dancer with Pucks in the Den of Rancor.

Finished dancer's merits. ^_^

And duoed Baronial Bat with rdm (for the rdm, I had evisceration from previous 75 jobs). I was amazed how much of a difference merits make, when we were killing Savage Blade scorp, I was afraid to ws (although that ranger antican aggro that kept wiping my shadows didn't help), and with Baronial Bat I was ws'ing left and right, reversing and using NFR and having tp aaall the time! ^_^ I was happy. And after that sponsored Nyzul 100, finally got to go dnc (although the rdm kept talking smack about dancers the whole time), and got my main gauche. Time to do a whole lot of skillchains.

I wouldn't consider that a "small" achievement since if I ever capped my parrying I would consider the game beat lol.

Pucks in DoR huh? I should give it a shot.

I went from 219 to 250 in the space of a little less than two weeks, basically. My SAM and NIN friends hate me now.

I started skilling up during a week where we had the Martial Master Kupower, and wow does that help Parry skill ups! Though during the last 15 levels it was without the Kupower and it still went fairly fast. The most skill that I have gotten in a night is five levels over a period of 4-5 hours. The longest amount of time I went without a skill up was about an hour and a half. But then there was a few times that I got two big skill ups back to back.

The whole thing might sound really tedious and boring, but with /SAM and Meditate along with No Foot Rise it's really quite easy and can get to the point where you don't even think. I got so used to it that I was browsing the web and watching movies after a few days. Besides, if you really want your Parry skill capped, you'll want to do it sometime ... so why not right now?

I was at J-9 of Map 7 in the Den of Rancor and you can get there easiest from J-7 entrance in the Yhoator Jungle. There is a circular room of Pucks you can pull from and if anything goes wrong you can just zone up the ramp behind you into the Temple of Uggarepih. The Pucks there range from Decent Challenge to Tough and you can generally change their toughness by zoning and respawning them. I subbed /SAM for Meditate, Seigan and Third Eye (you can still parry with Third Eye up, I found out) as well as tossing on Fan Dance to mitigate the beastly punishment these Pucks can dish out.

I would pre-buff my TP to around 270% and then load a No Foot Rise on after that to make certain that I wouldn't need to zone. Generally I would bounce between 200% TP and 300% TP but at times Pucks can channel their diabolical, satanic masters through their tiny fists directly into your face. During those dark times I have gone down to under 100% TP, but was always able to recover to 200%+ after a while. Here was the eclectic gearset I used :

Main - Earth Staff
Sub - Reaver Grip
Ammo - White Tathlum
Ring - Jelly Ring
Ring - Iota Ring
Head - Gnole Crown
Neck - Parrying Torque
Ears - Drone Earring
Ears - Parrying Earring
Body - Mirke Wardecors
Hand - Dancer's Bangles
Back - Boxer's Mantle
Waist- R.K. Belt +1
Legs - Dst. Subligar +1
Feet - Bounding Boots

That's +19AGI (73 base; Mithra) in gear and +4 from Tavnazian Salad. Near the end I put in three Parry merits and had around 270+ Parry skill. The more Parry skill and AGI you can pack on the better the skill ups will flow. Even though my setup has some +Evasion and +Evasion Skill, I felt that the miss rate from the Pucks was within acceptable bounds for Tough Pucks. If I added in the Praefectus's Gloves it suddenly felt like the Pucks were missing me a bunch.

Been kinda busy over the past few weeks but gotten quite a bit done on DNC

Atkorkamuy solo - fun fight which prepared me for the next accomplishment

Charybdis solo - one of the main reasons why I became a solo DNC...now I need a new target

Enkidu's cap/mittens - good WS pieces

1/7 on surge subligar - had to dust off my rdm for this one ><; was also my first rdm kited/dot solo...and I'll never do it again lol

1/3 on virtuoso belt - completes my step acc build

Dnc bangles +1 - had the pieces so said meh...gogo 1 more acc on steps

ANNM gully - got augmented with -8% delay, 4 attack, 2 CHR...nice lil toy

5/5 Denali - dont use hat/body/hands on dnc (although thinking about doing a PDT build with hands), but legs and feet finally completes my VF mag acc build...so glad I don't have to farm nyzul anymore

Just finished first Dakini (DEX+4 acc+8) and I never want to see another qutrub again ; ;

Almost to the last trial for the STR+4 att+12 one too...after that I'll probably slow down and get back to some other things in game. No real rush to finish the 2 evasion ones since they're pretty easy compared to the other two.

Finally got a Cinquedea after trying to low-man the NM on and off again since November '09! Just went 1/10 on successful kills (and there were a lot of failed attempted at killing before we ever got it right) after forcing a TH4 friend to pop by this time and whack it before we killed it, and it payed off. I finally get to replace my BK+1 in the offhand :)

Mind sharing your strategy for the Cinqueda NM? I've had mixed luck with it. RDM and BLM low man seem to work good with a THF pull to the zone, though it takes a while.

Anything more seems to get people killed. I've burned out too many LS members asking for help on this one.

Maybe the level cap increase and 2 Magian evasion daggers will make it soloable on THF or DNC. But of course it will have no use thanks to upgraded equipment in the update. ><

Sure, the strategy that worked best for us was SCH/RDM (me) and RDM/NIN duo. SCH should be replaceable by BLM, probably smartest to /NIN as BLM. I buffed up and activated Desert Boots with Sandstorm, casted Helix on it, and pulled it to Arrapago Reef zone. I would normally do my best to get a clean pull and avoid other mobs until Aynu deagroed, but even with adds, they would normally deagro along with Aynu, so I could run back to him, tag him with Bio II, and run the rest of the way to the zone, where the RDM was waiting and zone. I've done this with 2 RDMs, one with W. legs, and one without. The one with would run the pull with me snk/invis and when Aynu deagroed, he'd Bio II him and run him the rest of the way to the zone.

Once there, the RDM's sole job was to keep Bio II on Aynu, while I on SCH provided all the damage through helix. RDM would Bio II Aynu whenever it was almost up, zone in Reef, and then I would zone into Caedarva and Ebullience helix Aynu and zone. Helix was a good choice over nukes since it would cover any breaks it Bio that would happen, but if your RDM is able to keep Bio II up at all times, then nukes instead of helix can be used.

Once it got to around 10%, zone into Caedarva and time nuke together your best nukes (make sure it's not Ice magic), and it should kill Aynu off. If you have a THF for TH, have him attack Aynu right before the nuke, with shadows and evasion gear he should be able to survive the few seconds until Aynu dies.

Always make sure to have Stoneskin and Utsu/Blink up and casting from absolute max distance when zoning Aynu, as I've died in the zone from being just a tad too close more times than I can count.

We tried straight tanking it with DNC or THF, perhaps could work with WHM or RDM, THF or DNC, BRD (BRD is the missing element that we never got to try, but I think it would be very helpful.) This strategy never worked for us, so we kept with the DoT zone strategy, which was normally pretty successful, barring any freak accidents. Good communication is key for the zoning method though, knowing when your teammate is zoning, and when it's safe to zone in is crucial.

I hope this helps, I absolutely love the dagger, and hope that it doesn't suddenly become outdated with the level rise after I just managed to get it. >.<

Great post! Thanks. Your strategy is pretty close to what I have done in the past. You are spot on about communication and zoning in.

I had pretty good success with THF tanking in max evasion gear, but it seemed far riskier than maging it down.

We'll see early next week when the level cap means THF and DNC evasion will be even higher.

Tumbler trunks 1/1!

Fight was pretty easy, went THF/THF/DNC/RDM (I was thf not dnc this time lol) THFs trade hate on each side of nm while dnc and rdm stood off in the distance and acted as support. NM resets hate with each melee hit so gotta be careful, but has somewhat bad acc so I'm pretty sure a DNC could act as the second tank with an uber eva setup. Won't be able to do much else though because of its amnesia spamming.

Anyway, soooo happy that I have this piece, and just got nifty mantle last week, so my WS setup is pretty much complete XD.

Charis Necklace get! 1/6! Each attempt was with a base party of PLD THF WHM, occasionally adding in an extra DD or healer who wanted to come along for whatever reason. Everyone that wanted a Varangian Helm over the course of those 6 kills got one to boot. It's a very easy and straightforward fight as long as you don't put your healer in the line of fire for Mantle Pierce. A dancer would probably easily be able to either tank or main heal the NM. Finding people to help is easy if you offer them the helm, which is pretty good for SAM WS and lord knows everyone and their mother has SAM leveled. Just be sure to bring a Thief because the drop rate leaves a bit to be desired.

Secret weapon: Complete!

Yeah yeah, I know I said I hated multi hit weapons, but I can't deny that fun toys are fun. Double Kila is still my way to go on anything serious of course, but for stuff like campaign, other trials, limbus, etc I'll be rocking this in my offhand.

Thankfully I got lucky and teamed up with a TON of JPs doing these trials...only took me about 3 weeks off and on from start to finish...most trials being done within 24hrs of starting them.
