The Great New Scroll Hunt Thread, BLM version!Follow

Okay, I think you guys already know..Seems like with new scrolls, Square has hidden these but good.

The usual suspects have been checked, npc wise. I even checked a few places that don't normally sell high level scrolls but do sell scrolls. So these drop from something, we don't know what yet tho. OR maybe from a very oddball npc that never sold scrolls before.

If you find one of these new scrolls, please post here with proof (Screenshot, etc) so maybe we can help each other. Without further ado, here's the list. I will update this soon as I can once we find out where these come from!

Mine will be too, so will my whm. That's why I started this...It can take more than one person to find things like this. ^^

There's new trials in gustav tunnel. I bet they drop from new, higher level skeletons if they were added. Though I'm betting comet will be dropped by the HKC fights. Just calling it now.

I second this, the content is now out and the time for speculation is past.

Someone posted a log up on BG that proves Comet drops from one of the new bcs for sure. Maybe that's where our missing scrolls are tho I doubt that's the only source.

I've put that up as unconfirmed b/c we don't have a SS yet. I'll put up confirmation soon as the guy uploads a log.

Just beat the new HKCNM in boneyard gully, Antagonistic Ambuscade. Didn't get a scroll drop and it took 4 runs to get the strat down and all we walked away with was a Bishop's sash.

Most black mages won't be getting these spells anytime soon, FFXI going back to ways of old it seems.

Also it seems like they drop from new Voidwatch battles too, so I'll add that as well. However since the guy on BG didn't put up a screen, it's unconfirmed until I see one.

Maybe if enough do that they'll become easier? Give it time guys. give it time. And keep looking. I said that BCs weren't the only place to get those scrolls..I suspected Square put them in more than one spot.

LOL. Seems to, tho I haven't seen any drop shots on Voidwatch, that's why it is unconfirmed.

WoE, while fun, is a horrible way to get new scrolls. Yeah, they're free, but I've done 20+ runs and haven't gotten a single new scroll. In fact, I've been in a mostly/completely full alli for those 20 runs, and have seen one Temper and one Comet drop total. That's like 300 loot pools of evidence.

I haven't seen a new scroll yet, but I did get a brew in my temp items last night, which had considerable entertainment value when I dropped the last tortoise boss with a Vidohunir and 6 nukes.

Thunder V also drops from Flux 9. One of my close friends got it whilst we were both there. And Ere I </3 you for being so lucky with WoE. I've done 15 or so runs and not seen a thing so far.

Yeah, I realize even my piss poor luck (which has gotten worse since then, with no new anything) is above average. If you were on Sylph I'd mail you the scroll - I'm prolly shutting down the account tomorrow over this. I just don't have the patience to not enjoy my fun mage jobs for 6 months.

Actually in all honesty, I empathise with Ere. It's the first time in years I've just not wanted to play. I hate feeling 'gimp'. This update has crapped all over BLM especially. Right now I have 4 staves which need upgrading with 40 geodes each. I have been saving but the prices on the bloody things are going up and up. I also need 6m gil worth of scrolls at today's prices. I did get Comet but I've been taking two accounts into WoE the past week and have Eld in there since the update and I just can't get them.

If Voidwatch doesn't help tonight, I think I may just take a break from it all. It feels like such a backwards step. I'm being actively penalised for being a mage right now.

Ugh Magian staves!

Luckily we kept all geodes and stored them on a mule. Yesterday I was able to update my Varuna's, Yama's, and Indra's. I am short on Agni's because we gave a bunch to my brother~in~lawish to finish his STR polearm. I didn't realize they were going to release the +3 dmg staves so quickly. Oh well, stocking up now and the LS knows who needs em for trials!

And to Geodey on Phoenix ... FU and your 35k per geode prices

S-E raised the bar on character progression big time this update and blm was given a LOT of upgrades to play with. I have mixed feelings about it because on one hand the upgrades are mostly actionable and very expensive, but on the other hand I'm glad there ARE upgrades. This update had one of the most numerous bags of goodies for blm in a long time. Aside from Manawell we got

8 damage staves + 3 (8 enfeebles as well if you want to go that rout)

Earthcry Earring
Kikias' Cape

I separated that with the the auctionable items on the top, staves, and the more situational and/or challenging items. The only item in that list which is rare/ex is the Cesso Sash (aside from staves), and some of those are quite nice. My thief on the other hand got + 3 ToTM daggers which are a vastly lamer upgrade from +2 than a staff. Kila +3 got +2 base damage and ONE point of base stat over the +2, and fusetto got screwed even harder with two base D increase (thats it) for the low cost of 100 Devious Dies. I can also use the kikias's cape in an aeolian build. Aside from that the only thing which interested me was the cosuscanti and the Fajin Boots which are both rare drops from the same t3 Zilart path Voidwatch fight (kirin version 2). In comparison my thief's toys are fewer and a royal pain in the ass to get whereas my blm upgrades simply require gil. I actually ENJOY farming gil and there are a lot of ways to get some easy gil playing casually and battling mush mobs (like farming some basic NM triggers or converting cruor and gold box items into gil). It's not that it's hard to farm gil, just that a lot of people would rather do events instead. In retrospect I've felt a lot more character progression on my blm since this past update than I have on my thief.

The only item I listed with negative side effects is the Saevus Pendant. While earthcry, nefer and kiksias' are situational other than inventory -1 there is no downside to using them in their appropriate builds. Obviously the spells and casso sash are pure upgrades as well. Perhaps you're referring to the fact that Ombre Tathlum doesn't have MaB on it whereas witchstone does? The rule of 2 Int > 1 Mab > 1 Int puts Ombre tathlum ahead of witchstone so even if it isn't stronger it's at best a wash in damage. The draw for me is the +2 conserve MP to proc my af set a little more often and even one or two procs every few hundred nukes is enough to put ombre ahead of witchstone. The difference between Goetia Chain and Saevus Pendant is a loss of 7 magic accuracy for a gain of 7 INT (damage) --> 9 MaB (damage) and I don't know about you but that's a tradeoff I'm more than willing to make. In the worst case scenario I could macro in Goetia for resists but in 98+% of cases I'll be using the Saevus.

Like I said, if you have gil or are willing to farm gil your mages can get some darn nice stuff just by running to the auction house. Voidwatch has TERRIBLE drop rates and organizing the runs is a pain in the ass. I want the Coruscanti + Fajin boots badly but I'm not even TRYING to get them atm because they drop from a very difficult tier 3 Zilart path Voidwatch battle and the drop rate with capped lights is similar to salvage drop rates (soul crushing). It doesn't feel worth my time atm because just getting access to the battle takes a while and it's really hard. I'm not in a linkshell capable of running Voidwatch properly and my playtime is too limited to obligate myself to one at this time. Almost all of the melee stuff this update was disappointing (1500 plates, voidwatch mobs that never drop, and pitiful gains on ToTM melee weapons +3 for the price you have to pay (all imitation empyrean weapon +3 trials have a RETARDED cost to benefit ratio, and elemental path isn't much better). I'm of the mindset that there was no good reason for s-e to make the new scrolls drop rate this low other than to impose artificial difficulty and add a level of uber rarity to them, but at the same time they managed to make most of the melee goodies worse upgrades and most of them can't be bought directly off the auction house. So yeah, I like my blms stuff better this time.

I didn't notice the addle effect on the cape when I originally looked at it. In that light I agree the cape isn't that hot unless you have some good spellcast going on (I don't either) so I'll stick with searing cape for now. But my nuking magic accuracy is capped on anything in abbysea or lower levels leaving Voidwatch as the only place I could see resist issues on a regular basis. 9 MaB is quite a lot nicer than 7 INT so I'll definitely be using the pendant in a majority of situations.
