New magic spell

Meteor (Lv.99; Elemental Seal must be in effect)
Deals non-elemental damage to enemies within area of effect.
*Casting the spell simultaneously with your party members will enhance the visual appearance and potency of the Meteor.
*Sound effects for this spell have not yet been fully implemented.

[Test Server Only]
The spell may be cast without Elemental Seal in effect.

Buy your Dorje today! Also, I hope by sound, they mean the screaming taru's from the intro sequence.

Glad there finally adding this in and seems as it is not tied to our 2hr we should hopefully get some decent use out of it I just hope the timing aspect is somewhat forgiving as not everyone will be able to hit it exactly in time depending on fast cast and other factors though I'm sure it won't be an issue.

I think a more reasonable goal for most Blm may well be the Maleficus from Brulo in Abyssea.
In any case, I sure hope the spell is strong enough to compensate for the loss of magic affinity.

I'd agree with you if I hadn't seen so many BLMs full-time that scythe and be like 'wut, i r hitting procs'.

Byrthnoth and others at BG have compiled some really interesting info on the mechanics of Meteor. Full post here: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/108196-Random-Facts-Thread-Magic?p=5088358&viewfull=1#post5088358

Some points of interest:
  • It cannot be resisted. IMO this is because resistances are tied to elements, and since Meteor is non-elemental there is nothing to calculate resistance against.
  • Once the first BLM casts Meteor, only others in the same party can cast it (until it finishes).
  • Up to 6 BLMs can consecutively cast Meteor, culminating in one massive spell.
  • Damage is highly dependent on the order and number of BLMs casting. Final BLM to cast gets the highest modifiers (as well as all the enmity). Solo damage is extremely MP inefficient, while a full 6 BLMs is... well let's say it's already nerf-worthy.

I'd imagine the likelihood of SE changing some or all of this before it's released is pretty high, though who knows.

Video of 1-BLM Meteor here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxhFaIrPg6Q
Additional consecutive BLMs will "add" their ball of light to the seal above the enemy, increasing its visual complexity until the final BLM casts and releases the meteor. There's no video of a 6-BLM meteor yet, but an old version was posted a while ago- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Qv7MKFxlyM . It's somewhat different than the current version, but you'll get the idea.

While it cannot be 'resisted' I wonder if it cannot be absorbed. Some enemies (Many of them in Abyssea) have the ability to absorb magic damage at various intervals. Do these same enemies also absorb Meteor, or is their resistance bypassed due to the non-elemental nature of Meteor?

Edit: While on the subject, has anyone found the scroll yet or at least confirmed where it drops from? I can't seem to find the information anywhere.

It supposedly drops from the mega boss in the final VW chapter. Still haven't seen any on Fenrir that I'm aware of.

There's been treasure pools posted on BG that establish that it does come from the Promenance Watcher fight (as a possible drop from the NM itself as well as one from the treasure pool you can get).
