Ose Solo update

Well I am 0/2 on [bOse[/b] solo. Here are the details.

1st Fight got him to 45-50% ish

Gear: Usual set up
Food: Sole Sushi

Tactic: Use barparlyze + Barblizzard and Remedy to counter the add effetct on paralysis on me. Keep buffs and out last ose while gradually damaging him

It turn out that Remedy doesnt work on NM ParalyzeMy Stoneskin stayed for 6 hits until it wore off, had Bio on him. Ose hit me in range of 14-90ish never pass 93(the numbers he landed were majority of 14-45 average)Shield block him good at (309)The 90ish dmg are the critical hits on me.

I manage to to get Ose to 70% until I use Chivalry save my tp. Using sole sushi help me land hits, I would say I miss Ose 15% of the time but majority landed. It is weak to Enstone 7-15, Blazespikes did 6-9 damage per hit on me. If I was not paralyze 50% of the whole duration of the fight, wouldve beat him. At 70% Ose HP I got him to 45-50%ish HP. I think being able to straight fight solo Ose to that much HP is pretty damn good lol not many jobs can straight fight him 1 on 1. btw the Koenig shield "Beast killer trait" with charm on koenig "Intimidate Ose 7 Times on 1st fight"

2nd fight, got him to 40%-45%

Well majority of my gear was same but had different slots and tactics.

Gear change:
Haste belt
Ribbon "resist paralyze"
Ebulient ring "resist paralyze"

Use 1 pro-ether

This turn out to be a better fight, paralyze on me lasted 5 secs avg vs almost more than 1 min on 1st fight. My rebuff mess up when barblizzard wore off, then shortly later barpara wore off. It mess up my routine, the 1st 20-30% of the fight went smoothly as I plan but when para got in to effect it mess me up.I was just amaze how barparalyze + Barblizzard + x 2 resist paralyze gear help me vs Paralyze on his add.

Usually on 1st fight whenever he swings his nasty claws, I get "add paralysis on Enghorr" but with those buffs it did not add on me as much as prior fight. I mess up on this fight also with the food I use, while killing PH I was using Kabobs. I probably miss 50-60% majority of my hits vs Ose using Kabobs. Therefore if I use sole sushi at start, I probably wouldve got his hp to 20% at least.

The improvement of this fight help me realize a lot of things I learn on mage sige. I wouldve never known that some spells and gear stack, for example vs Paralysis. I will someday beat Ose, will gear and merit myself more to prepare my next fight on that @#%^ cat.

My advice for who wants to attempt

Koenig Feet
Ribbon Resist paralyze
Ebulient ring
Homam Body, Legs, Hands
Ethereal Earring
Loquacius Earring
Shadow mantle
Shadow ring

use Barparalyze and Barblizzard

With this set up:

Higher resist paralyze(if you are able to counter this, can win this fight)
Faster casting(WIth x 2 base Fast cast, x 2 Enhance fast cast gear, Haste% from homam set) will turn the table
More accuracy
Use Sole sushi, he has high evasion
Use Joyeuse
Use Koenig shield

Anyways I wanted to share my results here is the pic of Ose me getting it to near 40% HP.

Oh btw I invited Whasf because his friend Azeroth "Thf" needed the Jerkin, so instead of loosing it and give to random people gave it to someone I knew. I had Whasf invited me so they can help beat him wjen I was about to LOOSE!

Before I go, I hope this helps encourage other Paladins. This also helps Paladins who are camping Ose for there other jobs or wants Jerkin, so have confindence that you can camp it then solo it long enough Until your friend arrives vs loosing claim to other parties.

Mnd has no effect on the strength of phalanx. It does have an effect on stoneskin however. Check out the rdm forum for formulas.

Very nice guide! One thing I noticed...

-Galka are known for to be the highest vitality, strength

Elvaan have the highest STR of the 5 races. IIRC, Elvaan STR is 79 (possibly 81...don't remember exactly) base at 75.

Hi guys wanted to add a good shield to use when soloing.

Ice shield
-I would say its 30-50% rate for ice spikes to activate and its 15-16 dmg
-(309) shield skill what I got which help me block more thus increase rate of ice spikes to trigger
-Ice spikes hardly work when Blaze spikes is on
-Paralyze from ice spikes 2-3 times per fight, about 30-45 secs paralyze mob.

I will try to get a HQ+1 maybe even better % rate

This being the actual more important thread than the other 2...I'll post my two gil here Enghorr, and you can add it to your guide if you feel it helps. Its just a few things you may not have mentioned or said explicitly.

Buffing for a fight

A full line of buffs for a PLD/RDM (including Prot and Shell) will cost nearly 200 MP out of your pool. For full benefit of PLD/RDM you will want to start out fully buffed and rested prior to the fight (unless you are camping an NM an fear risking loss of claim). Buffing should be done in order of how long each spell lasts! First should come Prot and Shell, then rest, this is about a 100 MP drain alone, but last about 30 min each. Next should be Blink, Stoneskin, and Aquaveil, then rest, these spells last about 5 minutes each. Last should be your en- spell, 1-2 bar- spells, and Blaze Spikes as these buffs last the shortest amount of time and are not a heavy drain on your MP if you decide you need to engage w/o resting to full. Gaining full buffs properly might take a couple minutes at most, but it is not a wasted effort.

Practice makes perfect

Practice, practice, practice! Get to know your spell line backwards and forwards and match it to your mob. Start out with TWs and EPs, then you can move up in difficulty. PLD/RDM takes a bit of skill and finesse, because we aren't RDMs, most of us don't have capped enhancing or +skill equipment. We have to deal a lot more with recasting and interrupts. Do you know how to properly and purposfully cancel Stoneskin mid-cast of your second Stoneskin so that you take 0 dmg and aren't interrupted? Did you know that if done properly your Flash will last long enough on a mob to put Stoneskin back up if you are ever interrupted? Approximately how many hits does your Stoneskin take before failing vs EP? DC? EM? If you are taking a mob that hits several times in a row when can you start your casts and still not be interrupted? If you are casting, you most likely aren't dealing dmg, where is the median? Did you know you can cast a new spell mid-animation of the last spell? Even simple things like recast timers, lengths a spell lasts, and such help but can't completely be learned through reading.

For instance I use no macros when soloing with PLD/RDM. They introduce delay, and too many things can go wrong when mashing macro buttons. Your main friends when soloing are the menu shortcuts on the keyboard (ie- CTRL M). Know approximately where your spells are on the list, what upcomming spells are needed to replace ones that are going to wear off, and so its 0 delay. A 75 with no +enhancing equip macros, uncapped enhancing, no food or drink, and standard gear can solo the DC placeholders for Charybdis and take 0 dmg.

Thats all I can think of atm. I'll help out with more when it popps into my head.

Dunno if anyone else mentioned this but i did see someone mention about buffing in order and then resting to save MP. It's a very good idea but i lack patience with these things so it can be solved quite simply with 2-3 items.

Parade gorget for one, 2mp a tick is always nice. Second is MP gear, stuff like heirach belt(sp)offer +48 MP and +2hmp. With enough + MP gear you can caste Pro,shell and other such buffs then change to normal dd/tank gear without having to rest again. Makes the process alot quicker.

In would like to add some advice in PvP.

Fighting Smn or Bst

The pets that they have are normaly just as strong as they are attack wise. But both job have extremly low def. A simple method of defting them is to fight the pet only to gain tp.. then when you have 100 tp hit the player with the ws. With a you having /rdm there is a chance of binding the player right be for the attack so they dont run away when they see it coming. becuase you are being attacked by the pet still you would regan you tp quite fast since the updates. Bind and attack again and the fight is over. Either the smn runs out of mp or the bst dies.
I'll keep the hate, you keep me alive!

Very useful thread, I recently dinged 37 RDM after reading this thread so am now trying out the PLD/RDM experience and was looking at my gear compared to the gear you suggest. Just a quick question, I notice you are using a Byrnie, what made you decide to use Byrnie over Haubergeon?

Actually I apologize if I havent updated the guide, Im still compiling a lot of info especially with all the updates. I have change my gear couple times lol and depending on situation thats what I use. I sold Byrnie Btw

I have 3 Macros for Solo, PvP and Tank so I I can swap all 3 macros whenever I feel like I need to easily.

Solo vs Melee mobs
Sword: Joyeuse
Head: Wahlahra Turban
Neck: Parade Gorget (Swap Chivalrous chain when ws > parade)
Body: Sipahi Body(Stacks with critical merits)
Hands: Sipahi hands or Dusk gloves
Legs: Amir legs
Feet: Gallant feet
Waist: Warwolf belt (Aiming for a swift belt 0/6)
Ear1: Buckler earring (Get a Knights earring if you can)
Ear2: Drone or Death earring (others good but cant afford atm)goal is Loquacius earring)
Back: Amememit+1
Ammo: Bibiki sea shell
Ring1: Str rings
Ring2: Str ring
Shield: Ice shield (the paralyze effect in this so much worth it, with A+ shield and merits , shield gear you block so much the proc rate will activate)

Solo vs Mage mobs (Goal is Full Amir set)
Sword: Joyeuse
Back: If you have it use shadow mantle, Lamia mantle+1 or Amemet Mantle+1
-Reason being is that PLD only weakness really are mage mobs especially when they /ga or AM so save Rampart for that or use Magic def gear
Body: If you dont have Amir set, use Corselet the stats are worth it IMO( I can silence most melees and mages with this)
Ring1: Shadow ring (If you have it use it)
Ring2: COP rings, w/e you want really depends on your fighting style
Neck: Same as previous set up with ws macros
Ear1: If you got it use Ethereal earring and Loquacius earring
Ear2: Knights Earring, Ethereal earring, Loquaciaus earring
Shied: Ice shield
Ammo: Bibi sea shell

Tanking: Really up to you, but I use AF , Koenig and old usualy set up for PLD

Ultimate goal set 1:
Sword: If I manage to become a millionaire or business will boom, I will have more time to invest in excalibur lol
Shield: Aegis
Full Homam
Shadow ring
Shadow mantle
Swift belt
Loqaucius earring
Ethereal earring

Ultimate goal set2:
Same as before but with full ARES FTW! and im working on that ; ;

I noticed in one of the guides that it says you should learn how to cancel stoneskin mid-cast so the next one will be fresh. I've managed to do this, but I've also noticed that it doesn't seem necessary. I'm soloing on lolcolibri now, but it seems that SS will overwrite itself without having to cancel at all. What's everyone else's experience with this?

I've chosen my first target as Titan. So far, I've tried him twice and gotten him down to 24% at best. I don't have a Joy-toy, so I use the Mensur Epee. The rest of my gear is in my sig. (Yes I swap in +enhancing and +mnd with the appropriate spells...still working on getting all teh best macro stuff.)

Stoneskin does NOT overwrite itself, therefore it is necessary to cancel stoneskin before your new one is cast I usually shoot for ~50%, it comes as a habit though from my ninja experiences lol.

Well I been so busy real life I have not really have the time to 100% experiment on my PLD/RDM for a while now, so I apologize. However there are immediate pieces I want to encourage PLD/RDM out there to use. The update on my guide in future still on the way lol sorry....

Ice Trousers http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?fitem=11262
Auction House: Armor - Legs
Slot: Legs
Def: 25 Vs. Fire: 3 Vs. Water: -1
Enchantment: Ice Spikes
Jobs: Bard, Beastmaster, Blue Mage, Corsair, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Ninja, Paladin, Ranger, Red Mage, Samurai, Thief, Warrior
Races: ALL

Here is what I got so far

Ice spikes - Must have the trousers on all times and it last 5 min, 5 min recast

Proc rate - 5 damage to Lesser collibri (at 75) every time and proc rate for Paralyze from what I notice is as good as a RDM ice spikes.

Ice shield and ice trousers stack? - no, trousers is stronger since its the actual spell and will be base on your enhancing magic.

This is great for situational BCNM, NM, Tanking, Solo and PvP. I don't know if you guys tried this yet, but its awesome piece I am atm trying to claim OSE and fight this cat with my new fire power lol

Me and my buddy will try this out on the Kraken club BCNM, this also good for a lot of NM tanking, seriously this a very nice piece of equipment. 5 min duration, 5 min recast and 50 charges of Ice spikes and PLD is 3rd highest Enhancing Magic! We don't need to go after Ice gauntlets no more lol

-Most thfs will try to sleep bolt you or blind bolts then sata
-Use poison potion on you
-With your shield and phalanx, just fight thf head on

slight correction: a good thf will have garuda dagger+bloody bolts for PvP, and that usu. = dead pld. yes i've done it before, and yes i have killed a pld/rdm with full koenig/access to all the best EQ, and yes it was an easy, and short(< 2min) fight.
