Holy Circle enhancing Atonment?Follow

#1 Jul 21 2009 at 1:46 PM Rating: Decent
Is this new or have I been missing out on this?

Was fighting a Shadowhand Cuirassier in Campaign. Atonment was capping out at 750 as usual. I decided to play w/ the enhanced circle abilities and threw up Holy Circle. My next Atonment after that did 816 dmg. TP was not 300%.

They've improved Holy Cirlce with the update.

Holy Cirlce ups resistance/defence/attacks against undead.

Shadowhand Cuirassier are Fomors = undead.

Yes but Atonement isn't based on any of those stats, so theoretically should not be affected.

Either the update gives a straight increase to damage, or Cuirassiers take increased magical damage.

I can confirm this happening (no pics though).

Last night during sky farming we were farming Diorite and our Dark Knight used Arcana Circle, our PLD immediately does an 825 Atonement on the Aura Statue.

So it's not just limited to undead and Holy Circle.

Isn't Atonement usable at any level once it's unlocked? What about having someone put on a couple pieces of Shade gear and using Atonement in Promyvion?

Shade gear shouldnt do anything, as its an effect of the circle ability, not just having a killer trait. Otherwise we would do high atonements on undead at all times, not just with holy circle up.

This is obviously something that came with the update on circle effects.

You're right, of course. I was thinking of the job trait, not the circle effects.

Shows how much I know. I don't have it yet. Still, I thought I read in one of the update notes that you could use it at any level with any of that type of weapon once you unlocked it. Maybe it was referring to not having to have the mythic to use the WS.

The way that the circles bonus' work now, so far that I've noticed, isn't exactly atk+ and def+; as much as it seems to be dmg+% and dmg taken-%.

Not saying its not working as intended, but I sure hope that if it isn't, SE doesn't notice.

You probably read that the weapon can be wielded and cleaned, even if in a capped zone or level synched and any WS performed will still count towards cleaning points.

I haven't seen any numbers anywhere, but assuming the mechanics of Atonement aren't affected by anything except a flatrate %dmg modifier, I would assume that the circle abilities now inflict on the mob a 10% weakness to dmg which decays over the course of the ability (apparantly irrespective of magical or physical as I believe atonement to be classed as magical?). The decay is only my assumption based on the variance in your two final values, but conversely this could be affected by overal hate. Would be easier to test with spirit's within I think.

Presumeably it has a similar effect on the enemies attack (ie. a flat rate dmg-) as I don't recall anyone mentioning a change in there own defence values. Havn't toyed with it myself yet, I rarely find myself in situations against undead.

Warped out to Xarc to test it real quickly. Spirits Within was landing for a consistent 794 damage with Circle up, and a baseline 691 without (1476HP / 300%TP). That's actually a 15% increase. On one test I purposefully waited about 10~15 seconds after using Circle to WS and results were the same, so I'm pretty confident that they don't decay; the lower Atonement numbers might have been slightly less than capped hate.

Yup, I'm an idiot and took 750 as the baseline for Atonement instead of 720, I shoulda spotted that anyways. I'm honestly suprised it doesn't decay, very un-SE-ish to give us a flatrate 15% dmg bonus for 1min (potentially 1m30s).

Can see Ancient Circle becoming commonplace in Wyrm/Hydra zergs/nyzul now (assuming ppl do?)

3 Samurais in the mire with AF helm could potentially have 15%dmg increase nearly 50% of the time vs imps too.

I'm almost impressed, I thought it'd suck.

I can confirm the 15% increase instead of the 10% increase.

Atonement hit for 862 with (next to) capped hate. Which comes down to 14,93%. I guess the one hit i took lost that 0.07%.

Anyone know if the enmity on the circle abilities has also been increased? Would be nice to have another 5 min enmity bump...

Basically, the circle effects give everyone in the party a +15% dmg boost and -15% dmg taken boost against the family of the circle. This applies to both magic and melee damage, so if you were to use Holy Circle and it hit BLM's, their nukes would do 15% more damage against undead.

And DRG finds another niche in endgame! It used to be angon, but not anymore! Now its to circle buff the blm in dragon fights and then disband!
