In an awkward phase . . .Follow

So I just dinged 70 PLD and I dinged into joy-toy and ohat and basically I have found that as soon as i got to the mire the best pt's are tp burns where I might tank for the first 30 sec - min then it's on someone else for 10s, if that, and then it's done, on to the next one. So I was just duel wielding up to this point, but now that i have my joy I recall someone saying that unless your other sword is justice you're just slowing down joy. I do have justice waiting for me at 73, but would I be better or just using joy/shield until then? Or is that only after you get atonement (have brave blade waiting too ^^) and I should keep maining company while I'm using vorpal?

Sorry for terrible sentence structure and such, I'm on my way out the door for work and plan on getting a pt on pld when I get home XD

tyvm . . . but are you saying sword and board /war will out DD company/joy /nin? If that's true then I see no reason to /nin until justice . . . but I tried tanking in the mire /war and it just wasn't working the added dmg taken pretty much canceled out the hate from voke . . . the only time I REALLY tanked mire was /nin using shield (needed it just for keeping shield bash in my rotation of 5min abilities and rampart(or whichever r ability it is) for when I end up with no shadows from a poison/sleepga . . . I'm used to tanking drk/nin it kinda just feels like I replaced stun with flash and weapon bash with shield bash . . .

Anyway I kinda need shield skills so maybe ill try /war tanking again now that I'm better equipped and a little higher level . . . otherwise I'll just TP burn /nin XD

Personally always preferred sword and shield in Mire, with /war. The largest single reason, for me, has always been that I rarely find myself both silenced and amnesia'd at the same time. Therefore, I can cycle between voke and flash. With /nin, it's either trust my mage (in a pickup? hur hur), or bring entirely too much money in echo drops.

As far as damage goes, gut feeling is sentinel/joy riding zerk timer would beat comp/joy, especially given that weaponskills (normally a large reason to place a company in the main hand) will be significantly retarded by amnesia, giving simple melee DoT a much more significant contribution.

As a caveat to the above, I do not have a justice sword (sara -.-), and my only experiences in mire as pld have been 72+. Also, I haven't been back there since I got Joy, or my Sentinel Shield; my experiences have always been with either Comp/Koenig (2006, ToAU release week), or Comp/IR (couple months ago).

If you're taking that much damage with /war, then the fights are probably running a little on the long side. Either that, or your shield skill is significantly below where it should be.

Caveat to all of the above: I took a 2 and a half year break, and, while I understand /drk, and /rdm, and /nin, and have /nin and /rdm available (working on /drk), I enjoy the feel of pld/war more than anything else. So, bias admitted, but I'm pretty sure sentinel/joy pld/war will serve you best there. If you need shield skill, lemme know, as long as we can make some sort of skillchain so I can progress on my 12160 points at the same time :)

Perhaps, but who needs hate control on imps? A good chunk of the DD's will have native damage avoidance by the 70's (utsusemi, third eye, dread spikes, snarl, whatever), and it's better for a SAM or THF to be hit for nothing than for a PLD to be hit for 100. It all depends on the party, of course, but I'd suggest that as a general rule a PLD post-70 should be more concerned with dealing damage than anything else -- the other players can generally take care of themselves.

I've also got to think that a subjob which relies entirely on frequent job actions for its utility might potentially be useless a lot of the time on imps.

Personally, my vote is for /WAR and a DD shield offhand. Almost anything at all will work since imps are squishy and not very challenging, but /WAR gives a way to get the mob off a puller with both a /ja and a spell, and /WAR contributes an awful lot of DD as well.

In the end it doesn't matter much though, because once a PLD can equip Swordchucks and a Suppa, /NIN is the way to go, and that's only a few levels past 70.

The reason I was taking so much damage was mainly because of the nukes, which easily took out more than half my total hp when they went off . . . plus maybe I'm just so damn used to shadow tanking XD . . . I feel like I'm standing out there in my underwear with a target on my head when I'm /war >_>

Also when I did /war out there I was 66/67, which may have had something to do with it, but when I was tanking /nin with a shield I kept hate the vast majority of the time and took very little damage, and that was a meh pt with meh DD's . . .generally got 2 flashes off a fight. Next pt was a tp burn, 2 rangers tearing those imps to pieces while I took hate for the first 20 sec and did about half the healing . . . no reason to have a shield for that pt.

I really have no intentions of tanking in the mire, if I'm tanking then th pt sucks . . . i'll /war till swordchucks then I guess.
