CdC build, Ele Gorget/Belt vs DEX.Follow

Hello folks.

As title says, I'm working on a CdC build, I've seen a number of those out there and they all (every single one) had DEX gear for neck/waist slots and that made me wonder, why not use something like light gorget and belt(belts are entirely new to me but seem to work like gorgets) instead? (used to be good back in the day before I quit).

What I'm aiming for.

http://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/230732

For the life of me I can't get Almace 85 to pop on the list to use as main weapon, but anyway this puts me @ +68 DEX while also wearing Light belt and Light gorget.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The problem with a WS like CdC and elemental gorget/belt is that it has a naturally high ftp mod at 2.25 and is a 3 hit WS. Since only the first hit of the WS benefits from this you are essentially looking at roughly a 4.7% increase by adding belt/gorget. Adding in items with a lot of dex should help out more as it has a 60% dex mod. As for you gear choices I have a few suggestions.

Back - Atheling Mantle. The 11 atk and 3% DA will beat out the 5 dex.

Hands - Cant think of best hands off the top of my head but don't use Lucid. The -15 atk is huge as PLD has low natural attack. Hecatomb(+1) would be good (especially if you can get a good augment on them).

Legs - Tumbler Trunks. Again, PLD has low natural attack so the +18 attack on these are very nice.

As it stands right now, Hecatomb Mittens +1 with high crit damage augments on it is hands down (no pun intended) the best hands for Chant du Cygne right now for Paladin. That being said, even unaugmented NQ Hecatomb Mittens will do you better than the Ludic Mitts just because you're throwing away that 15 attack by having them equipped.

Body wise, Zahak's Mail will likely do you better than Twilight Mail. While there's less Str and Dex with the Zahak's than there is with the Twilight Mail, that +3% crit hit rate is very worthwhile.

Neck wise, unless you're able to cap out your critical hit rate without it, Rancor Collar with capped Tonberry hate has been shown to be the current best WS neck piece for any critical hit weaponskills. While it offers less accuracy than an elemental gorget, the 5% critical hit rate with capped hate pushes it ahead.

While the Airy Ring you have right now is ok, upgrading it to a Thundersoul Ring would be preferable when you could. Same goes with your earrings. If you don't have one, make sure to get a Brutal Earring as soon as you can, because it's too good of an earring to not use for TP or weaponskill. Once you get that, you'll never take it off. For the other earring, either going with a Dex +3/4 earring or a Centaurus Earring would be the best course to take.

Lastly, going with Plageus's comments on the legs, I'd say that the best WS legs for Paladin would be the Hecatomb Subligar +1 with optimal crit hit rate augments on it. If you can't get your hands on the subligar in any fashion, the Tumbler Trunks would be your next best option. Less dex and attack than the NQ subligar, but still beats most everything else.

Thanks alot for the input.

Boy has things changed since "my days" but anyhow, I only have NQ mitts, so I guess I'll try to have them augmented then use them.

Current CdC build

http://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/230732

So in total 63 DEX.

For abyssea my usual Atma build is RR/GH/Apoc if I'm not tanking, or RR/MM/SS if I am.

In the 1st scenario I'll have Crit rate +50% Crit damage +30% Triple attack +15% DEX+50 (Putting me @+124DEX with buffs).

For tanking we're looking at Crit rate +30% Crit damage +60% DEX+50 (@+124 still).

How are my atma choices?

For out of Aby I'm entirely reliant on the WS set, and Squid Sushi.

Oh and in the rare occasion that I'm duel welding, go for DEX+9 sword or the Khanda+2? personally leaning towards Khanda, but I figured I'd ask first. (+ I don't think Occ.atk weapons benefit from Apoc's +15% triple attack)

The elemental Shamshirs (mainly STR or DEX) are typically better than either khanda unless you're not benefitting from the accuracy or attack.

the OAX on Khandas is the same OAX on joyeuse at a lower rate on a higher delay weapon, it's really not even that good for TP gain.

I'd actually consider using the Dbl. Attack+10 sword as an off hand weapon. The double attack would apply to both hands and it could proc during your weaponskill as well.

This is the general consensus for best offhand weapon by Blu's as they dual wield more. But yes, same would apply to Pld if they happen to not be using a shield.

Except the Str Shamshir is better than the DA sword for all 3 of the jobs who can equip it as far as offhand goes unless you need accuracy, then the DEX Shamshir is a clear winner.

EDIT: Unless you're accuracy/attack capped then DA khanda pulls ahead, which is pretty much on fodder with Zerk/Stalwart's/etc. up.

While on the topic, what do you think about the optimal waist piece? I've heard conflicting arguments about either Cuchulain's Belt (DEX+6, Att+10), Anguines Belt (acc+15, att+15, dbl attack +1%), or Snow Belt. I tend to believe Cuch should beat them all, but I have a good friend (who's also a good player) swear that Anguines will beat both - especially on NMs. Has anyone had experience w/ Anguines and CDC and can confirm whether this is best?

I guess I do need to get a Rancor Collar.

Also, Twilight Mail is best for in Abyssea b/c typically you're using Crit rate atmas and could easily be close to the cap. Zahak's is probably best for anything else. I will probably get it when our shell is almost done with the emps we're working on currently.

I also wish there was something better on the feet slot than Lithe Boots, but oh well.

Snow belt is out of the arguement right away unless you have capped atk imo. .1 ftp on the first hit when base fTP is 2.25 is pretty abysmal. (4% increase on first hit only).

I would go with Cuchulain's belt to tell the truth. The thing that sells it for me is the +3 base damage that +6 dex is going to give you, imo that is more than worth +5 atk and +1% double attack. Acc's benefit is moot at this point.

How about this new belt that came out?

Chiner's Belt: DEX+7 Increases Triple Attack damage

PLD can wear it. I think that'd be interesting to try out in Abyssea (but stick to Cuchulian's outside)

Depends on what your triple attack rate is. If you are in abyssea and you are using Alpha/Omega and Apocalypse, I would say sure. Anything less that that and I would say probably the +10 atk on Cuchulain's would be more consistent. Also, not sure what the bonus to TA is on the belt. Going by the other +TA Damage item, it would only be 5% on the second and third hit (Triplus dagger on thf as reference).
