We Plds have talked in a while. While some of us have 2 mil for a Dagda's Shield with its amazing emnity and Cure boost to add to healing emnity, What other options do we Plds have now a days. and definately dont have time nor a ls dedicated enough to build an Ochain or Aegeis.

The Names escape me atm as I can not find new data on them.
1. Castellan's Shield
size 4
def 28
VIT 15
"Enhances Shield Def Bonus"

2. Majorelle Shield
size 3
def 30
MP 30
enhances Fast Cast
BG says 5% FC

3. Genesis Shield
size 2
DEF:21 thunder+30
"Triple Attack"+1%
Physical damage: "Curse" effect on opponent

These are just a few ive seen. They look promising I tested the Tower shield out.Terrible block rate. even with new palisade on it was underwhelming. It looks to me more like a war option who needs the vit boost and the shield def bonus. One who isnt /nin and is tanking axe and board. IDK, its SE. have yet to try the fast cast shield. does anyone have info?

and on a side note; since gamerescape and clopedia are slacking. what does "Enhances Enlight Effect" mean on Honorbound? +dmg, acc, DA? please tell me!

Thanks for your time and comments.

edit: we found names and info on BG. Thank Altana someone still cares.

Re: Honorbound

Quote:
Enhances "Enlight" effect

* Adds an additional 7 damage (not including Divine magic skill Bonus) to each activation of Enlight.
* The Enlight enhancement only applies to Honorbound and will not affect any other equipped weapon.

Not sure why you weren't able to find that on ffxiclopedia, it's been there for a while now.

I recently took PLD to 95, as we will need a dedicated PLD outside of Aby down the line. I am currently using Tatami, as its something I had already. What would you folks recommend for a shield these days? I was looking at the Dagda (sp?), but wasnt sure if it was worth the price. I am finding out how crappy the casting time is with PLD, maybe fast cast wouldnt be so bad?

Thanks!

Well I personally would ditch the tatami. Its a size 4 shield and has a lower shield block rate and will block overall less dmg than a size 3. My personal choice is the Fast cast shield. 5% fast cast and 2.5% recast. always helpful. it aslo has a good def rating so should block fairly well. Its obviously not an Ochain or Aegis, but untill you can afford a Dagda use the Majrelle. Dagda is invaluable due to its emnity and cure % boost. more HP back more emnity boost. Hope this helped. Feel free any other plds to chime in.

I actually got the dagda for $700k, seemed worth it (I wasnt paying 800!) I really didnt want a tower shield. You are correct, it rarely blocked (had it from back in the day when I got for thf/war). Appreciate the response, look forward to working my shield skill now. Would you recommend a round shield with the highest block rate to work shield skills?

To level shield skill i typically just use a type 3 and fight mandies in abyssea, usually take about 8 so i can make sure they all fit within the blocking radius. Use regen atmas and /war usually for extra defense. If you keep phalanx up they'll do 0 dmg except for some crits. I'm sure using a Size 1 or 2 shield would increase your skill gain per hour, just make sure you can survive the hits (shouldnt be hard with phalanx up)

As for shield, i beleive dagda's is the best non-relic/emp currently. I use a seigneur, it has low def (less pdt on blocks) but the mdb is nice and im almost at my ochain so no point for me to change now. On ffxiah forums some one tested tatami to be about a 10% blockrate even with shield skill, so that shield is pretty worthless. Majorelle also looks like a solid shield imo. As a pld you really need to stay in size 3 category because with pld's skill it will mitigate the most overall dmg.

I just finished skilling up Shield myself; get it up to ~100 in Qufim, ~200 in Boyahda/Kuftal ( should be no problem solo w/ Phalanx ), then head to Abyssea. I used a buckler, pulled the entire chigoe and mandragora camps in Attohwa into a corner, and got the last 200 skill in about 2.5 hours; I had my alt on RDM for Phalanx II to reduce damage to zeroes, ate Saltena, and used Palisade every time it was up. It'll start a little slow, but once you get up to around 270 you'll gain 2-3 levels per minute.

If you can't find anyone to Phalanx II you, all you have to do is pay attention and recast Phalanx before it wears off and you should have no problems with interruptions, assuming you have Enhancing skilled up and are using enough PDT- from gear/atmas to reduce incoming damage to 0. If it wears don't panic, you can use Sentinel, Invincible, Fanatic's (or Revitalizer) to recast safely.

RDM can attain an almost static 50% reduction to recast time, SCH can over shoot this for a total of 60% reduction under Alacrity (provided you are wearing loafers and keeping dark weather on yourself)

MACC is a joke, any job with access to mage gear can hit close the MACC cap on legion mobs, which is why my BRD/RDM can land slow/para/blind despite having only 150 skill (from /RDM.)

Question. I recall that back befor shield updates the Sipar had a hidden +20% block rate. does that still apply since the update? If so that would be my choice for skilling.

Sipar's hidden shield block rate of roughly high 90% was removed in a recent update. It is a standard type 1 shield now.

That still means it blocks a lot, just closer to 65~70% now instead of the 90%.

Regardless of that all, you can cap out your blockrate on a size 3 with proper skill. That means there's little to no reason to go under that.

In regards to the Castellan's Shield, i actually have good experiences with it. Due to size, it negates a LOT of damage. Due to having 28 def, it reduces a further 14% damage on top of the standard size 4 rating. And shiniest of all, Shield Defense Bonus. Reduces total damage taken on a block even more.

If the blockrate wasnt so depressing, i'd full-time it. It takes a -lot- of shield skill to make up for that number. Given enough skill, even a size 4 can block plenty.
