Hi guys! Cool to see this is still here. I personally am enjoying FFXIV beta, the 3rd dungeon is really fun, actually. The mini-bosses are really fun fights and the crafting is unique and actually somewhat active. The battle system itself is pretty standard but there was nothing special about XI's either. I played XI for so long because it had the best community of any MMO, all of my favorite FF classes and I actually enjoyed most of the expansion quest lines and the end game dungeons/instances. XIV still has the potential to pull all that off so I will be playing for at least a while.
Honestly you can't talk about the combat until you get through the first few dungeons. There's a fight involving an ooze, an explosive detonator, a Bomb and a demonic bunny that I enjoyed thoroughly. The fact that they had a battle at level 17 that required thought and coordination from your party and done in a very creative way was very encouraging to me.
Sure it starts out with a series of simple quests leveling you up but I only did the main story and the class quests for the most part. I picked up the quests from the guys next to them for the bonus xp but whatever. At least they had pretty cut-scenes and I did like some of the characters and they were obviously designed to prepare you for different types of fights later in the game, basically it's a tutorial. I prefer this to my early experience with XI. I started THF because I like that sort of role. You get dumped in to the game with no sort of direction, no quests you have any chance of being able to pull off. I don't know if any of you ever played 1-10 THF no sub job but I think I would rather rip out my own toe nails and drink them in a smoothie before I do that again. I would have quit before I made it to dunes if I didn't have friends encouraging me to push through.
I don't know what I was saying anymore; it's bed time. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I GET A DAY OFF.
