Frustrated...Follow

So I love being a ranger...but I have one major gripe. I seem to be missing WAY too much! I'm a lvl 15 Mithra RNG/THF, with a Hunter's Bow, 2 tourmaline rings, and the ranger's necklace on. However, even with all these things, I seem to hit maybe 1 out of every 5 shots. With sharpshot on, its like 1 out of 2. Does this just have to do with the fact that I'm hunting IT mobs with my PTs? Because otherwise, I don't see why I should be missing this much. (Rangers are supposed to be good with bows darnit!) I've posted on other boards, they say that I should hunt lower lvl mobs...but I'm at the mercy of the PT.

*edit
After thinking about it, I guess it makes sense that I'm missing this much against VT/IT mobs...even the melee chars in my pt miss a lot against them. Still, any thoughts would be appreciated. :)

Yes, I believe that the skill with your weapon/your own level/dex or agi affects how much you hit a target.

For instance, my own mithra warrior wields a great totin' greataxe, and I usually manage to hit about 70% of the time. Now, this is at lvl 26 War/12mnk, with the weapon skill itself maxed at 81 or 86, I forget.

Now, if i switch to my next highest, Greatsword at 49 (yes, I've gone a bit crazy on axe recently ^^) I will hit about...15, maybe 20% of the time.

And yes, this is against VT-ITs. Tone it down on difficulty, you'll find you hit more often :)

it's true, if rangers are the masters of one thing, it's missing. try to score some bone rings, especially HQ ones, and you'll see your accuracy improve incredibly. also, it's probably the stuff you hunt. maze makers? :P i tried them quite a bit and it's just miss miss miss for me. i moved over to valk for those lvls and started shooting at crabs. had probably a 90% hit rate, 95% or so with sharpshot. all the melees would hit it for 1 or 2, while the ranger would go bam! 55.

yeah, vt/it really pisses me off. i heard the accuracy issue gets a lot better post-30, though, so i'm crossing my fingers.

I soloed from 15-19 in Shakhrami Maze on Maze Makers. My tip to you is, sub WHM, use the Hunter's Longbow (generally 10k-15k), the best arrows you can use which should be Iron Arrows, and use Sharpshot on VT's. Don't attempt IT's unless you have a lot of mana. Push your +ranged accuracy items as much as possible. Then buy AGI items. If you don't have enough money to do this. Farm it.

Im lvl 16 Taru Ranger, I used to miss alot, at lvl 16 with my +1 power bow, ranger necklace, and 2 bone rings, I probably average hitting 1/3 - 1/2 times on T and above(no sharpshot) almost 100% with sharpshot. i dont understand why you wouldn't be hitting them.

You mentioned tourmaline rings(sp?), right? I believe those give a +2 agi per ring...if not, then +1. Either way, I just want to say from my experience that +ranged accuracy bonuses are much better than +agi bonuses. Trade those rings in for 2 bone rings+1. That will give you a total of -4acc and +6ranged acc. ^_~

On Midgard, Bone Ring +1 go for about 3-3.5k each.

Prices really vary from server to server.
On Fenrir, I got 2 bone rings + 1 at 1.5k each.

It gets better, when i first started my ranger i couldnt hit anything. I'm now level 18 with powerbow +1, ranger necklace and a few other agi items and I hit toughs 4 out of 5 shots and almost never miss this sharpshot up.

I thought the +1 bone rings and the normal bone rings have the same +Ranged Accuracy, just the +1 have less of a - to normal accuracy. If you don't mind the extra - to melee, then you can probably save some money here.

beetle ring is -2 melee accuracy +2 ranged accuracy,
the beetle ring +1 is -2 melee accuracy +3 ranged accuracy.
I use a pair of those I got for 3,700 each and i've got a powerbow +1 and of course the rangers necklace and some agi boots and headband and I hit most of the time on my ranger being lvl 26.
