I don't aggree with this fully. I would rank them

R.Acc > AGI > STR > R.Attk > anything else

This is based on how I think STR and R.Attk work which I posted here http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=7&mid=1085073961793909411&num=17

I'm kind of interested in Ranger, but not sure on some things.. I haven't still used a a range weapon so I don't know where im going with this lol

Marksmanship

can someone be lets say a Ranger/Ninja and dual wield two Musketer Guns for example? and considering how ninja lowers the delay ability.. would that make significant daamage considering that you have lots of bullets(crafting) woudl it be effective.. Like is it possible for one to solo pt this without using melee?

thanks

Is there anyway to remove the [FAKE STICKY] From the Subject and just make it Ranger FAQs, someone just messaged me and ask where the Ranger FAQ was and didn't realize that this was official? I know sounds kind of stupid but there are those people out there.

This is an excellent post. I've been thinking of leveling ranger for a while now, and this post has given me plenty of information.

Thanks for all the information Smiley: waycool

I'll try to ask. I'm sorry, when I had composed the original message, I thought it kinda presumptuous (sp?) to think it would be a sticky at all. We had no idea how to request it to be a permanent post or anything.

I posted the subject as "fake sticky" with the assumption that we could just keep bumping it up whenever it was needed. I think another board practiced this technique (tradeskill?).

Now that it is a sticky....my only hesitation in asking for changes is that I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth by asking for something unless it's totally necessary.

I'll try to make a soft request for it.

Great thread! Begin Ranger level 1 tonight and was unsure as to whether I wanted to level it all the way or ninja. Now I am 100% sure I will make my career as a ranger. Still undecided as to sub my thief or warrior. Probably stick with warrior for the solo lower levels and switch to thief when I hit 30 with ranger - Does that sound about right? Also does sneak attack work with ranged weapons?
Thanks

Nope, Sneak or Trick Attack do not work with any ranged attacks :(

Although, I heard a rumor that Sneak+Trick Attack work with the level 60 weapon skill Blast Arrow (Archery) or Blast Shot (Marksmanship). I haven't heard any additional information on it though.

Um, I just became a Ranger and read through this. I have a queston: What's a quiver? That section didn't answer the question, just how to get them. So why do I need them? Thanks. Otherwise helpful guide.

Well, if you just only became a Ranger you may need to buy a few arrows to understand why quivers are nice. Try buying 300 arrows.

You'll quickly find that 300 (297 to be exact) arrows will take up 3 inventory slots on your character. This is due to the fact you can't normally carry more then 99 arrows in each slot.

Bascially...turning your arrow stacks into quivers, allows you to start stacking them on top of each other. So 3 quivers of the same type of arrows will now all fit into one slot.

Make more sense?

Great Thread I have Rng leveled to only 7 right now but have been thinking of going back to it.

Anyway I am also still a little confused on quivers and need more help Sorry Some of this may be wrong so please let me know.

1)I get the items listed to make the quiver (Carnation and Stack of Bone Arrows - qty 99 (As an example.)

2)I have this mithra make me a quiver by giving her the the 99 Bone arrows and the 1 carnation.

4)She then hands me a quiver of 99 bone arrows.

3)I then put the quiver in my inventory.

Now I don't know what to do.

a) I now have a quiver of 99 bone arrows?

b) If i buy 2 more stacks of bone arrows and do Auto Sort will they all group together in one slot labled Quiver 297 bone arrows?

c) Do I equip the quiver in the "Arrow" slot of my equimpent list or do i equip the actually bone arrows in the equipment slot?

d) When I run out of Bone Arrows that were in the quiver does the quiver disappear from my inventory or can I refill it?

e) How do you refill it?

Thats it for now sorry if the questions a-e are confusing and sorry to make the experienced rangers go ARRRGGG these stupid noobs are killing me...lol

Thanks

Try it..you might not understand the concept until you do.

99 Arrows + carnation = 1 quiver.

12 quivers makes a stack in 1 slot of your inventory. It sits there until you use it like you would a food item...a little message pops up that says something like "you've released 99 arrows from your quiver".

Those arrows are then used like always.

You can't refill a quiver...but if you wanted to, just find another carnation and if you have 99 arrows again, you can make another quiver.

You're correct, except you can't do it with Bone Arrows, if you read the text when you talk to her she says she won't waste her time with anything but Iron Arrows on up.

But other than that, yes you are correct.

Can the part about Quivers be updated with information on exactly which arrows CAN be quivered? Wooden/Bone/Scorps can't, what about Beetles? Horns?

I just did the rng quest last night. I'm so excited, this is pretty much why I initially bought the game to begin with. I'm so ready to start kicking **** with it...too bad I still have to farm for some gil for awhile before I can start lvling it too much. Anyway, thanks for the awesome FAQ, I look forward to using it a lot in the months to come.

I'm thinking of going with marksmanship..

does anyone here knows of a FAQ Guide on that style of Ranger and their weapon Skill(i don't know what each does and such)

Aside from being expensive... It seems that the weapons and bullets GREATLY outdamage an archer.. unless i'm wrong o.O

I *think* you get the final, worthless "Resist Poison III" at this level. As i Find that resist poison alternates with that sweet sweet accuracy bonus.

I just started thinking about lvling a Mage as a sub for Rng. I know that Rangers get a abilty like Bind but not for a while and im only lvling it to 40 as a sub for my Sam so would a mage be good for the bind spell, or should i just stick with my war and mnk as subs for it?

I say just stick to your WAR as a sub. Why put in the time to level a mage sub when it's pretty much a given that it's a poor choice anyway. Reasons behind this:

a) PTs -- if you're going to 37 for RNG, it's likely you'll want to PT from levels 12 - 37. IMHO these are the levels where players are the most obnoxious...you'll get a lot of comments about the weird job combo. You also wouldn't usually need bind in a PT situation.

b) Solo -- if you plan to solo your way to 37. It's likely your MOB candidates would be worms anyway. Once again...no real need for bind.

I'm all for trying unique job combos...but if your main choice is SAM, I'd say stick to the known conventions for RNG just so you can get there quicker.

One question I don't see answered by this thread (maybe I'm just tired and missed it) is what is RNG's key melee skill? Dagger, axe? I've been using a dagger so far for RNG when meleeing, at the moment equipping a Beestinger, but I can't help but feel another weapon would be more effective.

Well, at the end game, you're either going to be carrying daggers or that Francisca Axe. I don't carry the Axe yet myself so I can't speak from experience, but right now I rarely depend on my melee skills for damage...and I don't assume that will change suddenly if I were to have the axe.

The main issue is in your early levels before level 28. At these levels, melee damage DOES seem to supplement your bow damage pretty nicely...and for these levels, it's generally accepted that axes do the most damage for us then.

I used a sword from levels 1-28....namely because there wasn't so much information going around at the time, and secondly, it was just something that gave me pretty good damage since I had already capped it when I played as a THF. At 28 I switched to daggers and have been using that since....

So..in summary, you can't really lose if you go either axe or dagger in the early stages, you'll be using both in later levels. Axes are better damage for you right now...

Since so many Renkei threads are popping up, its an idea to add a Skillchain section to this. ^^
