Gun on thf? :: Final Fantasy XI

So i am leveling up a thf as a sub for my drk. It's 22 atm which means i just dinged high enough to start sporting a gun and decent ammo if i like. with my marksmanship merits, my skill tends to sit about 3 points lower than that of my dagger. now, for parties, of which i've only had 2, one being a smn burn, the other being retarded, i still plan on using a crossbow and acid bolts. However, most of my exp has come from solo and FOV. I'm wondering if the dmg of a gun and bullets will be worth it at that level for solo. I leveled my rng up before the time of great nerfing and all, so i truly have no idea whatsoever what rng solo is like at that level. what do you guys think?

Do you really think the added damage of using gun is going to beat out the damage of an acid bolt? Maybe if you stuck to worms, gun would be better. But i doubt it would be your best bet for general soloing.
