Is there still an optimal distance for bows? I've been off this game for a couple years and I thought there was before.

Yes there is, the distance is about 9~10 (Units), about twice as far as the gun, with Xbow being in the middle.

You'll get messages saying if your in a decent position

Hits Squarely means your not quite on the sweet spot, Strikes True means your on the sweet spot

though if you hit a crit hit, then these messages wont appear - and its a standard ranged attack message if your out of the sweet spot entirely
