I've replied to another post with this, but I thought I could make a new one so ppl can find it easier. :) This is from my point of view and should not be regarded as the authority on the subject. ;x Use what I've written here in conjunction with other information you can find, and you should have a pretty good idea of what to do.

Maps for the relevant areas are a necessity, otherwise you could well spend several hours searching. :\

For the Beast Gloves:

After talking to Guslam in the armor shop in Upper Jeuno, like most classes, you have to retrieve 'rusty gauntlets' - I think that's what they're named, from a coffer.

Location is depedant on class. For BST it's crawler's nest. Coffer keys drop from Crawler Hunters, Helm Beetles, and Knight Crawlers. You'll need a good solid party to take those on (54-56?). Crawler Hunters will be the nastier of the 3. Best area for Coffer hunting is area where no one goes to lvl, lol. To get to it, you take 2nd tunnel from right from within the 1st room you drop down into that everyone waits in when they're looking for groups in CN. (This first room has lots of maze lizards wandering around.) Use snk for everthing, and invis for the Wespe/Soulstingers. Trade key to coffer, get the old gauntlets. Go talk to Guslam again, then enter Tenshodo in Lower Jeuno and talk to the mithra inside. She'll ask for 1000g to give you information about something. From here investigate the ??? outside the duty free shop (near AH), which is the 'grimy box'. Cutscene occurs and you talk to Borghertz. You may need to trade the gauntlets to the ??? rather than just investigating, actually, I forget. ;x

He askes for 'eternal flame' - I think it's called, which is a key item. Assemble a good party and head out to Castle Zvahl Baileys. This is the tricky part. Inside there are lots of Demon Pawns and floating eyes. You'll *need* sneak and invis to get to the point where you'll fight the NM. They aren't too hard, those things, but they link like crazy, and it can get tough when you fight 3-4 at once, even if they are fine one at a time. So probably try to avoid fighting anything on the way, and just clear the area immediately around the fight site - so you don't get aggro during NM fight.

Dark Spark is a bomb, and you spawn him by inspecting the torches. Before he dies he will try to blow up, but because we had an alliance of 10-12 ppl (because we all needed it, not because that many are necessary - but admittedly the more the safer ;x), he died pretty fast. But I know he does this because someone spawned him by accident once, when we were still assembling 2 parties, and I ended up trying to take him on with only 2 others. They both died, and I died after he blew up. He doesn't have a ton of hp, but with Beserk on he does hit hard. Anyway.. Kill him, inspect the torches again as fast you can, then just warp/escape/tele out.

[One important note: it seems that even though he blew up and I died, when we took him on properly the 2nd time, some of us got the 'eternal flame' anyway when we tried to make him spawn. So we got the item, even though we didn't actually kill him per se. Surprising, because I thought you had to inspect the torches fast after he was defeated.]

Go back to the 'grimy box', inspect, and another cutscene occurs, and you will get the Beast Gloves from Borghertz.

For the Beast Gaiters:

Talk to Brutus who gives you 3 Aquafloras (key items) to put in some Underground Pools as remembrance to the beasts that died. This requires you to go to Fei'yin. Generally the early stuff in there is easy prey to decent challenge around lvl 54. Further in, you get to the harder stuff. Snk/invis is necessary (the golems are sight based, rest is sound, magic pots aggro by magic). There are 3 pools in the lower area of Fei'yin. This map is of that *lower* area. The 3 underground pools are at: F-5, H-5, and H-8. On our first one, when we inspected, Dabotz's Ghost appears (banshee/poltegeist/bogy class). Clear the room of bats and Droma first (I think the Underworld bats aggro but can be used as pets, though they make weak fighters. The Camazotz are better which are the single bat versions). I duoed this guy with a lvl 56 bst. It was tough work. He can cast Tornado and does a variety of black magic, and probably Curse. Our fight took over 10 mins I'm thinking. We threw a lot of broths at it, letting them do all the work.

When he dies, inspect the pool again, and you will get a cutscene with a galka BST after throwing in your first aquaflora berating you for a pathetic attempt at remembrance. Find the other two pools in that area and inspect each. Go back to Brutus.

Final bit requires you to go to Castle Oztroja and kill Yagudo Conquistadors, Priors and Zealots for a Chest key. Find a chest, trade key and you'll get a Beast collar. [CHEST not COFFER ;p] Trade this to the walking monkey called Tebhi (who's basically in the area where all those Yagudo spawn - this is also near the pool where PLD have to kill a NM for one of their AF pieces). He'll disappear, so head back to Upper Jeuno and talk to Brutus one final time to receive the boots.

For Beast Helm:

Easy stuff. Not quest based. Just kill Hellmines, Fallen Majors, Fallen Mages and Magic Jugs, in the basement sort of area of Garlaige Citadel. At the level where you can wear this headgear (56) you could well be xping off these already - I was now and then. Hellmines are incredibly risky and can Self Destruct sometimes which means dmg roughly based on how many HP they have left I think (one blew up once for 1800 dmg, so yes, do not get close). Additionally, Magic Jugs can be lethal. They cast stuff like Flare, and have some nasty high lvl -ga II spells. Once you get the key you'll need help to get past Banishing Gate #1, #2 and #3 to find a coffer. Most coffers spawn past Banishing Gate #3 - I think each needs 4 ppl to stand on the pads to make gates open. If you're on during primetime and prepared to wait, you could just sneak through when other parties open them. Use snk for everything, and invis for beetles and bombs. Bombs also aggro to magic, so be careful. Trade coffer key to coffer, and you'll get the Beast Helm there and then.

For Beast Jackcoat:

Done this one now. You have to head fairly deep into Beadeaux, and again a map is fairly necessary. Be aware that you need to pass the "the Mute" and "the Afflictor". If you've done rank 5, you'll know these, but "the Mute" silences you when you inspect, and "the Afflictor" will Curse you in an area around it *unless* you're silenced. Weird but that's how that works. So you have to get silenced by "the Mute" before you can go into the deeper areas. Echo drops are absolutely essential. You have to kill Ancient, Darksteel, Platinum and Sapphire Quadavs to get the coffer key. These are pretty **** tough (some were IT at lvl 57), so you need a balanced party with healers, tank and dmg dealers. They link, and detect by sound. They are different jobs too, like other beastmen, and one is a magic user, but I forget which. I think it was the Sapphire quadav. Must keep it silenced. ;p Once you find coffer just trade the key to get the jackcoat there and then.

For Beast leggings:

Credit goes to Elusivepig for this section.

Quote:
To begin, you need to talk to Dietmund in Lower Jueno, the same guy that you had to talk to unlock the Bst job. After that, buy a piece of Mahogany lumber, take it to the little boy in upper Jueno in the Chocobo stables. I think his name is Otto, or something close to that, can't remember off the top of my head. He will fashion a key item whistle. After recieving the whistle, you will head to Eldieme Necropolis.

You must enter the Necropolis from Beaudicine Glacier. Once you're inside, the tomb is located at D-4, and its the furthest one back and to the left. Once you clear the room of ghosts, click on the tomb and 2 tigers and a undead hound will pop. The tigers are charmable at 60, fairly easily. The tigers do the regular tiger abilites so try to bring along atleast another Bst with you to charm the other one as well, since they have AoE paralyze and some nasty damaging attacks. The real challenge is the undead hound.

I went with a pt of 4: 75 BST, 71 PLD, 60 WHM and me, 60 BST. It was an extremely difficult fight, the 75 BST ended up dying, the PLD and WHM both had to use 2hours and all of our MP was drained before we managed to defeat it. I would definantely reccomend a full alliance of 55-60, 2 PT's of 60+ and a solid PT of 70+.

You only need to defeat the hound. If you charmed the tigers (which I would highly reccomend) they will poof after the hound dies. Inspect the tomb again, you will get a long cutscene and then recieve your AF trousers.

Hope that helps. Apologies if I have any of it wrong, this is all from memory. :)

Finally... there *is* an order in which you can do these. Generally, get the boots and gloves done, then you are okay to do rest. For example, if you don't do any quests, but get a garlaige coffer key and open a coffer I don't think you'll get the beast helm.

Photo of what BST AF looks like on hume female (me ;p), minus the lvl 60 leggings. (the scythe is the lvl 46 Falcastra)

Lilyanne, excellent post! Thank you for taking the time to post the information. Although I still have a ways to go, I will definitely use this information and add anything I might encounter.

Unfortunately, like our scanning ability, AF armor, etc... the Beastmaster job lacks in good, detailed information. I guess that's the price we pay when we level are often reare job choice among others.

Again, thank you very much! Happy Hunting!

Thx. :) I thought it'd be helpful to have all of it in one spot. Like I said, it's just extra information that should supplement what ppl already know.

Have updated my post with info on the jackcoat. :)

Just to add a little bit to this excellent post, for the Gloves you have to talk to an npc in the Tenshodo area after getting the Rusty Gauntlets from the coffer. I can't remember her name, but she's a Mithra standing in the middle of the room. She will mention something about a grimy box which is located outside of the duty-free shop in Port Jueno.

For the Beast Helm, the majority of coffer spawn locations are behind Gate #2, in case you have to solo it and want to camp out in an area with the most coffer spawn locations.

For the Beast jackcoat, just look up the Limit Break 3 quest on this website for an excellent guide on how to reach the area with the Quadavs you need to kill for the coffer key. The coffers are very easy to find; opening them is tricky if you're doing it solo since they spawn in the same rooms with 3 Quadavs. Just make sure to wait until their backs are turned, open it, then say a little prayer that they don't turn around while you're using a warp scroll.

As for the AF1, just go to Uper Delkfutt Tower and kill giants until a key drops. The Chest spawns on floors 8+.

Yes we fought Dabotz's ghost by ourselves. We started fighting alongside our pets but when I got Tornado cast on me we stopped and didn't lift a finger for the rest of the fight. From then on we just threw pet after pet after pet at it. I used 3 coldblood comos, he used several funguar familiars, and we also used several of the local bats too. :)

They can be repeated if you delete the item from your inventory, then you can recieve the quest again. As for dual wielding the AF1 axe, no can do, rare/exc.

K, im on BST AF Boots atm. i got past the first part and am very close to finishing. Got the chest key in Castle O, and am now looking for the Chest.

one problem.....its impossible to find! ;\

I even got a site, the maps out the spawn points for coffers, NMs, and chests! So i make rounds by the spawn points, and have done this many times for hours straight today.

If anyone has completed this part of AF, how long did it take u?
And if u can remember, where did u find the chest? Thx

ok ppl Heres some info for AF3

you need to Tele to Vhazl then from there head to Battalia then enter the mound at F-5 then head to D-4 and examine the Sarcophagus.

as for the fight being hard i found the fight to be extremley easy

1 drk 73
1 blm 73
1 brd 75/bst
1 whm 73
1 thf 71
1 bst 60 (me^^)

as u can see no tank and you only need 2 bst as there are only 2 tigers that can be charmed. An alliance of 12 lvl 60 can easily have done this each with 1 healer 1 bst and 1 pld and blm etc for good damge

also you make sure to clear all the Ghosts in the room b4 fight as they aggroed me at lvl 60 and cursed a lvl 75 brd 8/ make sure whm has cursna. then rest up and kill dogs

then cool Cutscene where u see the annoying little monkey from when you got your Boots ( found this to be hardest/ most annoying of all AF quest i did) and the fat Galka bst from when u fight Dabotzs ghost. all in all it was harder to convince my freinds to walk to Batalia from Vhzal then the actual fight

Nobody really knows, only speculation. I believe, although maybe not at a 1 to 2 ratio, +Charm is better than the equivalent +CHR.

I already posted this in another thread, but you can solo the ghost for your AF2 if you want, but wait till you are 54 and can cast stoneskin. It will take around 25 minutes to kill by throwing bats at it, good luck (and use juice/food).

You can also solo helm beetles and wespes in crawlers for your coffer key, just throw rumblers at them. It's slower than having a party help you though.

I don't think +charm is anything to do with charisma or charming as such.

What ppl are coming to believe is that +charm *extends* the charm time on the pet. By how much, I don't know. :)

Can vouch for this. Although it's not stoneskin (Stoneskin comes at 28whm) you need, it's Blink which is *absolutely* necessary if you want to solo Dabotz' Ghost. Blink will suck up Tornado damage if it gets cast on you (saved my **** from 2 Tornados). Soloed Dabotz, took about 25 minutes of running, swapping bats, running, resting, swapping. Patience, but you *will* take him down eventually, just always keep that Blink up. I dragged dabotz into the chamber where Cassie normally spawns (thank god she wasn't around) and just threw Camazotz at Dabotz all day long. You can solo him at 52 if you wish, but the higher level you are, the better (more EM/DC bats available).

aye meant 56 - my bad. I recommend not going till then (solo anyway) as you will have less chance of a resist on a bats, and stoneskin will give you an extra safety net with the 120'ish hp it absorbs (based on MND stat).

Make sure you talk to Brutus after killing the Ghost. I **** that part up and found a lovely Electrum Ring in my Oz chest.

We also had a very easy time taking on the AF3 mobs. Had about 10 level 75s there beating on the mobs. They went down fast and hard. I charmed the Trombe first try (at level 52), but my 2 hour was down and it didn't last long. It was good times.

I was in an exp party in CN last night and got my coffer key, then later Natari messaged me saying she found a coffer, so I rushed over and poped it. Now off to do Dark Spark!!

Oh wow, thats a big surprise! I never imagined that having 10 lv75 could make it easy, just thought someone was giving me a truckload of BS.

Wasn't this the kind of PT that I had reccomended in the first place? I always find it amusing when people post about how easy such and such is forgetting that its not them but the swarm of lv 70+ they brought with them doing the work.

Why not post about what it would take to safely complete a quest rather than what you brought and then to boast about the overkill.

For the Beadeaux coffer key, if you can, hitch a ride with PLD's (or others like WAR's) doing their Genkai 5. The Testimonies drop from the same mobs as the coffer key. After that, it's relatively easy to track down a coffer. Do the Beadeaux portion of Genkai 3 while you're there.

For the AF3 (legs), I was in a 6 BST, 1 SMN alliance, 53,61,60,60,68,72 BST and a 71 SMN. We did a detour to help with the 53's AF2 in Fei'Yin then went off to the Necropolis. Had trouble, but mostly because we couldn't pin down the dog. The tigers proved to be no trouble charming and maintaining control, but by themselves, they do **** damage to the dog. The 72 and 68 BST died, due to to the lack of aggro control (he was just all over the place), but we managed to get the AF3 done. Would've been easier if we had just stepped back and let the tigers/broths do the work.

Finally completed my AF. Whew. ^^b

Sorry Grelix, I tried looking you up at the time we did the run, but you weren't online during the time. -_-;;

If you're wondering what good dragoons are anymore, it's for our AF3 quest. I managed to do mine with just 4 people. 63bst / 61bst / 67pld / 59drg
Let the tigers tank the whole fight while building up TP to flatten the NM. The dragoon can start off with a penta or skewer and super jump the hate away. The rest of us had to resort to turning around when we started hitting too hard. The tigers nearly lasted until the end of the fight, I imagine it would have gone even smoother if we had some biscuits.

The coffer AFs are activated when you get the Gloves quest; you don't need to complete it.

i would assume you need to be BST at the time you open the coffer. I could just imagine a THF opening a coffer in GarCit and getting a BST Helmet...lol Im pretty sure what item you get from a coffer is based on what job you currently are.

On a side note, when it comes to CastleOz and the chests, i was searching ALL over the place for my chest until i went under the bridge in the H-8 area. its UNDER the bridge....so its very easy to miss, and on the map i was reading it didnt not say that.

AF1 (Axe) and AF2 (Boots)
Can be done with A thief picking the treasue chest.
Just done my today. ^^
Reason for this:
1. Both AF1 and AF2 are Quest.. u get the item as reward from a NPC
2. You don't get it directly fromt he Treasure/Coffer so any job would be fine.

EX: Dabotz's Ghost, u can change into a high lvl job to do this if u want doesn't have to be BST

I know this to be true because I tried it.. save me lots of time ^^ Picking those locks.

I just had to post, cause of my pride maybe. ^^
People are saying that the gaiter AF is do-able with a
duo of lv 52 bst. I'm lv 53 right now, and last night I soloed dabotz's ghost. Granted the fight lasted about an hour, and it did get me down to 1 HP, but it's taking me longer to find the **** chest in oztroja. My $.02; if you can run around in crawlers nest fighting the tough blazer beetles, mushussu and exorays, then you can probably pull this one off yourself too.
Just have to try to keep the bats you use alive, the take a LONG time to respawn, and they last a lot longer than keenearedsteffi did ; ;

I died 7 times in total within 2 days to get my AF boots. I didn't play the game for a week after that lol. Took 3 hours to get the key to drop in Oz,but the chest wasnt too bad once I figured out how to get to the area with the monkey. Probably should have been killing the yags down there for the key instead of the ones up top of the castle. So, after 3 hours the key drops, and a PASS on it by accident.... luckily the guy i was with thought setting myself to quartermaster might work and it did. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ good thing too because I was trying to get him to run to the zone which we never would have made in time. I almost asked him to kill himself and HP for me.

oh, and probably 6 of those 7 deaths were caused by my own stupidity and mistakes.

Went to Fei Yin and found a JP 75 MNK farming. He helped me kill th NM but I died at the end when for some reason I decided to use magic near the pots...

damn...i feel like playing again now >.<

Me and my BST partner duo'd the AF Boots NM yesterday. We were both level 51 at the time. It was an incredibly exciting fight. I think it lasted about a half hour and my heart was racing. We were of course having to charm Tough occasionally.

I can't put into words out exciting this fight was, but I think it revitalized my interest in this game.

Here are a few of the gotchas that you should be aware of (some obvious):
- the Droma are magic aggro, so you can't cast near them

- all of your pets are bats and they will all aggro you if you don't have sneak on when they are nearby

- the other end of the hallways have ghosts, so if your HP goes low, you can't run too far past the Droma

- the big room also had an elemental in it, so we couldn't cast too far into there *or* run in there with low HP because there were ghosts there as well.

- the tunnel at the south east side of the big room (the way you came in) has a couple of doors at the south side of it. a ghost can spawn behind one of those.

- If you are charming T, try to stand to a side where it won't link others if/when the charm breaks.

- Your pets will get poisoned, so plan on needing a lot more than 3.

- We had no juice. Good juice would make this fight A LOT easier.

In the end, both me and my partner died. He died first and the mob still had about 20% left. I had barely any MP and very low MP. I had to cast sneak but I couldn't get to a place where I could safely recast that had a) no bats that would aggro me while casting, b) no magic aggro (pots/elementals), and c) no ghosts that would smell my blood.

Amazingly, I ran all the way to that south east tunnel that I mentioned while desperately trying to not get hit during pet transitions and I won the fight! I thought all was well... not quite. The ghost from behind the door down there decided to come out and pay me a visit ; ;

I fought him for a long time and managed to make my way back to the pool while throwing pets at him. I put a fresh pet on him and jumped into the cut scene, which luckily finished. He had unfortunately just cast Bio2 on me so I couldn't rest and I couldn't cast anything due to the Droma. I almost survived, but then he cast Bind on me while I was switching pets and my new bats missed. ; ;

(death)

Some people raised my friend and he got the item too, but seriously, that was the best FFXI death I've ever had. Beating that thing after all the hardships was truly a reward.

If you fight this thing, you should probably kill the Droma first. We thought we'd have enough room becaues that tunnel is big, but the more space the better in these sorts of fights. Several times, we got trapped between our own pets.

Anyway, it was truly exciting and I hope the rest of you can enjoy it as much.

Edit:
I forgot to speak about the chest part. Like one other poster said, I just did this as THF. I used Thieve's Tools and luckily found the chest in the very first spawn point. Finding the monkey took me longer than finding the chest. ^^; I also did my AF1 axe with THF.

Good job Suji!

I waited until lvl 56 for the AF boots. I soloed the NM. It still took about half an hour.

FYI, at lvl 56, a Crab or Fungler Familiar will work better than any of the pets you can charm down there, but with the 5 minute timer on Call Beast, you'll have to throw in a few Camazots in between.

I did have a few Prism Oils and Pineapple juice left over from doing AF gloves, so that probably made it a lot easier. The worst part of the battle was my fiance talking to me the whole time about some wedding stuff.

As for finding the Monkey in Castle Oztroja, use Wide Scan and track him.

I did the quest without any in-game maps. I printed the maps from the vault's web site, and used those.

On our first one, when we inspected, Dabotz's Ghost appears (banshee/poltegeist/bogy class). Clear the room of bats and droma first (I think the Underworld bats aggro but can be used as pets, though they make weak fighters. The Kamotzs are better which are the single bat versions). I duoed this guy with a lvl 56 bst. It was tough work. He can cast Tornado and does a variety of black magic, and probably Curse. Our fight took over 10 mins I'm thinking. We threw a lot of broths at it, letting them do all the work.

For my AF2, the third pool (in Cassie's room) popped the NM.

Question on the Oztroja chest part for the gaiters. If I bring a thief friend along and he opens the chest, will I still get the piece I need for the gaiters? Or do I have to have a chest key?

When you are flagged with a quest like BST AF2, then it must be *your* character who opens the chest/coffer.

Is it possible to duo AF3? I suppose that would depend on how strong the tigers are.

Hehe yeah. Having only done it twice (myself and helped another bst much later with theirs), I can't really say how strong they are. ;x You could charm them, then just use broths I guess. But I'd maybe recommend more then 2 bsts if you really wanted to try that. 4 maybe, with the others using 2hr + their strongest broth. :)

Plus they'd be able to help with clearing the room beforehand too.
