[/b]Updated Hunting Grounds: Revised XP Guide for Beastmasters[/b]

I decided to grab most of the posts in this forum and design a leveling Handbook for Beastmasters. Exercitus's thread was the genesis, and Oleum's idea to compile the information was the spark needed. Below is a summary of most of the hunting ground posts inputted by Beastmasters in this forum. Please, feel free to make comments / suggestions, add new information, or point out errors. I will attempt to keep this top post updated with all of the new information you provide.

Personally, I want to say "Thanks!" to all the Beastmasters who took time to contribute their ideas and locations. Without you, I would still be running around in La Theine, hunting Saplings!^^ So, without further ado.....

Note: The numbers behind the pets and targets in parentheses are the level ranges posted by either the strat guide, or on the web. These ranges give you an idea of what kind of fight you will be facing.

Levels 1-9 (Beastmaster gains 2Hr: Familiar; Job Ability: Charm; Pet Command: Fight)
(1) LOCATION(S): Ronfaures, Sarutabarutas, Gustabergs
PETS TO CHARM: The local fauna
MOBS TO FIGHT: The local fauna and local Beastmen
NOTES: Solo your Beastmaster like a melee, without charm. Most of the time the charm will not last long enough sustain a fight, and end up killing you.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Most of the Beastmasters in the forum!

Levels 10-11 (Level 10, Beastmaster gains Job Ability: Gauge; Pet Command: Heel; Job Trait: Vermin Killer)
(1) LOCATION(S): Konschtat Highland (Far Eastern/ Middle Eastern and Far Western/Middle Western edges of the zone)
PETS TO CHARM: Mad Sheep (11-13) (Level 11 charm only)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Rock Eaters (7-11) (solo)
NOTES: Goblins roam the area and aggro, so be careful! Solo Rock Eaters.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Ikaz

(2) LOCATION(S): La Theine Plateau
PETS TO CHARM: Ackbabas (9-13), Strolling Saplings (7-10), Steppe Hares (7-10)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Rock Eaters (7-11), Acbabas (9-13), Strolling Saplings (7-10), Orcs (Grapplers, Mesmerizers, Fodder) (8-10)
NOTES: Worms can be soloed at these levels
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Ikaz, Durginn, Oceaniax

(3) LOCATION(S): Tahrongi Canyon
PETS TO CHARM: Canyon Rarabs (7-10), Pygmaioi (7-11), Strolling Saplings (7-10), Canyon Crawlers (11-13)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Canyon Rarabs (7-10), Pygmaioi (7-11), Strolling Saplings (7-10), Canyon Crawlers (11-13)
NOTES: Begin hunting here at level 8.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Tarantulas

Levels 12-14 (Level 12, Beastmaster gains Job Ability: Reward)
(1) LOCATION(S): Konschtat Highland (Far Eastern/ Middle Eastern and Far Western/Middle Western edges of the zone)
PETS TO CHARM: Mad Sheep (11-13)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Goblins (Digger, Ambusher, Butcher, Tinkerer) (11-16), Mad Sheep (11-13), Quadav (Onyx) (10-16)
NOTES: Use even matched or decent Sheep for fighting. Make sure to use Dia and Paralyze if you have it, against the goblins.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): KudomaBooyah, EnormousBaloth

(2) LOCATION(S): La Theine (pond in recess vicinity Valkurm Dunes entrance)
PETS TO CHARM: Thickshells (12-14), Mad Sheep (11-13), Grass Funguar (11-13), Rock Eaters (7-11)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Thickshells (12-14), Mad Sheep (11-13), Grass Funguar (11-13), Rock Eaters (7-11)
NOTES: Try to fight Barely Toughs with High Decent Challenges or Even Match pets. XP will be slow at level 14.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Ikaz, Durginn, Oceaniax

(3) LOCATION(S): Tahrongi Canyon (near Meriphataud Mountains entrance)
PETS TO CHARM: Wild Dhamel (14-16), Canyon Rarabs (7-10), Pygmaioi (7-11), Strolling Saplings (7-10), Canyon Crawlers (11-13)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Wild Dhamel (14-16), Canyon Rarabs (7-10), Pygmaioi (7-11), Strolling Saplings (7-10), Canyon Crawlers (11-13)
NOTES: Tarantulas stated: Very little aggro here and plenty of Crawlers and Dhalmel spawn here, plus the added bonus of a zone line for emergencies. 13 and 14 were excrutiatingly slow, as Dhalmel are only worthwile at 15-16. Before these levels, they all check as tough and you can never tell if they are weak toughs or almost VT tough. There are also alot of farmers around for Dhalmel hides which means alot of competition in peak hours.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Keekee, Tarantulas

(4) LOCATION(S): Inner Horutoto Ruins (Lily's Tower Entrance, East Sarutabaruta at J-7)
PETS TO CHARM: Beady Beetles (11-16), Bat Battalions (12-15)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Beady Beetles (11-16), Bat Battalions (12-15), Goblins (Ambushers, Butchers, Tinkerers) (14-18)
NOTES: Once you enter, go through the "cracked wall" in G-8. At this point the map changes... go to I-9 and work with Beady Beetles and Bat Battalions. There's a good supply of these as you move downhill, and some nice low gobs handy to farm if you end up with a little left over on a pet. Note this is a bit of a difficult spot (close quarters, all mobs agro/link and a longish run to the zone). Rarely camped, since the Bats are the "Jet Stream" type.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Swarren

(5) LOCATION(S): Dangruf Wadi (on the right side of the map up the geyser)
PETS TO CHARM: Wadi Leech (11-14)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Goblins (Ambusher, Butcher, Tinkerer) (12-16)
NOTES: Even at 13 the leeches there were all decent and even cons to me. This area is mostly just full of leeches and goblins, be careful of links.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): KudomaBooyah

Level 15 (Beastmaster gains Pet Command: Stay; Job Trait: Resist Slow)
(1) LOCATION(S): La Theine Plateau ('Funguar Alley' or Ordelles Cave Main Entrance ravine)
PETS TO CHARM: Huge Wasps (8-12), Poison Funguar (14-16), Plague Bats (9-11), Poison Bats (11-14)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Poison Funguar (14-16), Poison Bats (11-14)
NOTES: Funguar Alley entrance is ravine north of Lake Ephmere. Go into ravine and run cave/ravine complex. At end of ?Funguar Alley? is where La Theine Monument for Selbina Clay quest is located. You can also examine the front room of the Ordelles and grab Even Match Stink Bats (15-18) for some early leveling. If it does not fare well, then work the funguars in the main entrance ravine. This level is slow for experience points.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Durginn, Oceaniax, Keekee

(2) LOCATION(S): Tahrongi Canyon
PETS TO CHARM: Wild Dhamel (14-16)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Wild Dhamel (14-16) or Yagudo (Mendicant, Persecutor, Piper) (12-16)
NOTES: Pygmaiois (Mandragora)(7-11) are not strong, but provide an entertaining fight.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Ikaz, Keekee

(3) LOCATION(S): Inner Horutoto Ruins (Lily's Tower Entrance, East Sarutabaruta at J-7)
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Swarren

(4) LOCATION(S): Valkurm Dunes (K-8)
PETS TO CHARM: Sand Hares (15-18), Hill Lizard (15-18)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Hill Lizard (15-18), Sand Hares (15-18)
NOTES: Occasional Goblin (Butcher, Tinkerer, Ambusher)(17-20) provides additional XP.
CONTRIBUTOR(S): Corres, Ikaz

(5) LOCATION(S): Meriphataud Mountains (near Tahrongi Canyon entrance)
PETS TO CHARM: Wandering Saplings (13-16), Jubjubs (15-18), Night Bats (13-16), Black Bats (15-18)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Wandering Saplings (13-16), Jubjubs (15-18), Hill Lizards (19-22)
NOTES: All the mobs link but is not a problem since they are so far apart. This area is very spread out so be prepared to do alot of running to match pets and prey.

PETS TO CHARM: Stink Bats (15-18)

CONTRIBUTOR(S): Rotund, Durginn, Oceaniax

(6) LOCATION(S): Maze of Shakhrami
PETS TO CHARM: Stink Bats (15-18)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Maze Makers (18-21), Goblins (Ambushers, Tinkerers, Butchers) (16-18)
NOTES: 1400+ EXP per hour even with much competition. Keep Barstonra up at all times because Maze Makers use Stonega. If you are in trouble, just run as they can't follow you and will only fire off a few spells. They can cast Bind but it usually doesn't last long enough to be a bother. A decent Bat will usually tear apart an even Goblin. Don't attack other bats!!! There are tons of them everywhere and they link like crazy.
Dehrian observed: I found Bats against Goblins to be very effective and fast, but not against Worms. The Worms are all Ts, and they tear apart EM Bats. The Bat is frequently intimidated by the Maze Maker. I have to join the fight, lose my EM Bat, and suffer signifcant downtime after each battle. The Bats against Goblins usually mean less XP per fight, but the fights go much faster with less downtime. I also zone any EM Bat to ghetto Leave it when it's near death, then rezone to claim it back after it gets full health. I lose TP, but it's easier to get TP back than wait for another EM bat to respawn.

Ironmanx stated: An EM Leech can easily take on a T Hognosed Bat. Let the chains begin!
OgreSamanosuke added: 1) Hognosed Bats aggro. It will link nearby stink bats. 2) If the Hognoses are EM, toss them at a Stalking Sapling, they intimidate them. (yay!) 3) You will have to kill the Gobs in the way, or follow someone to reach the hunting spot. (Mostly d/c, few even or tough for exp) There are about 10 in the short path you want to travel, so grab one of the snippers that is even and use it to own them. 4) Lastly, if something goes wrong, you may as well kiss your ass goodbye. Only real failing is it's far from zone, and that road of Goblins will hunt you down if you have to run for it.

You will need to take a barge (80 gil) to arrive at Central Landing (through the Sandy route), and the dock is for arrivals only. Use the dock as your camp, and fight the receommended mobs above. Avoid fighting T battraps, as they are very strong and hit hard. Keep in mind that both Water and Thunder Elementals spawn in this area, although usually away from the pier. When leaving the area, through the caverns linked to Jugner, keep in mind that the Funguars do aggro, and they are usually in groups. The same goes for entering through the Jugner passage.

The fights were lengthier then normal, but the Pugs almost always con T and Bubu is full of critters to throw at them, so I had a good time. Almost always got 140 exp including penalty per Pug. MOBS TO FIGHT: Giant Spiders (30-34), Sand Beetles (36-40), Anticans (Auxiliarius, Faber, Funditor) (35-39), Goblin Trader Pet Spider (38-40)
NOTES: Charm DC and EM Spiders and fight other EM and T Spiders. T Beetles are great if you can find them, but the spread at 33-34 will be T to IT. you will find the occasional T Antican to beat on... those are nice too. Dhamels: DONT TOUCH EM AT THIS LEVEL. Leave them alone and they'll leave you alone. Nothing here aggros except Sabotendaurs (cactus-like folk), Anticans, the nasty Doom Scorpion guarding the pit, and the occasional Flesh Eater (don't even think about solo-ing it at 32-33...possible, but not likely). The most common complaint about E Altepa: "It's so spread out?! How do you find stuff to kill?" - This level, like when you your a lower level BST on the Buburimu Peninsula, is a good time to know and love "Wide Scan." If well utilized, these two levels will be a relaxing stroll through the desert as Spiders really aren't that tough (definitely not like Acrophies).
WisePiggy stated:Goblin pets are very weak for their con, you just have to make sure you sic your pet onto them without the Goblin seeing your pet. After the mob pet attacks your pet, use the heel command to draw the fight away from the Goblin Trader, or just let them fight and hope the Goblin walks away in the right direction. If you get a good run you can easily get chain #4 and #5 using this technique, but there are alot of wandering mobs in Altepa so you need to be careful. At night watch out for the Lost Souls. Make sure to set your homepoint at the entrance to Western Altepa - you will die a few times doing this - it's high risk/high reward.

NOTES: Ensure you have a map for Gusgen - you want to head right down to the basement (on first map when you get to the room with 3 doors take the left and you'll eventually get there). Once in the basement charm Gallinippers and fight Feu Follets. Feu Follets have low hp and low defence and also use beserk making them take (and give) twice normal damage - so they die fairly quickly. Let your pet do all the damage - if you try and fight with your pet you will get caught when a bomb explodes and may die. Gallinippers also link and aggro - but there is enough room around the outside edges of the room if you are careful.
Good XP - chain 3-5 is possible if you get lucky with bomb explosions. Bombs also drop a fair amount of bomb ash which sells well at the AH.

PETS TO CHARM: Ivory Lizards (32-35), Yuhuntga Mandragoras (to pull) (30-33)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Goblins (Smithy, Furrier, Digger) (32-38)
NOTES: Suggested to bring Instant Warp Scroll. To get there, hop on a chocobo and drop down the hole as if you're going to Yhoator. From there just make your way south-west as well as you can until you can ride up into the (H-7) plateau. You're in the right place if you see a hole in the middle of the plain, and the only mobs around are Mandragoras, Furriers and Smithies. Go into the north-east most tunnel off the plateau, and it should be a dead-end with two lizards in it. If the two lizards aren't Even, you can do a little trick I've figured out for perfecting camp spots - just keep killing them off until you get the perfect conning mobs. You don't want to drag in a lizard from another spawn zone, because then you have to keep watching it to make sure it doesn't wander back. If you force the two spawns inside the cave to be even, they'll just wander back there when you're finished with them, and thus you always know where to find them. Use Yuhtunga Mandragoras to pull. XP chains very possible.
Durginn stated: H-7 confirmed great area for XP. Chains difficult due to a lot of the decent challenge gob spawns were decent, with a few toughs, but still able to get multiple chain #1s, and a few Chain #2s. If you are miserly, like me, you can move to and from H-7 without having to purchase an instant warp scroll. Recommend you choco out to spot. Head South out of main gate, across field where Goblin Smithys and Mandras spawn (G-6). Go into tunnel and follow until wooded area (G-7), and continue heading south, entering another tunnel (Ivory lizards also spawn here, as well as Gob Smithys). You will enter another wooded area (G-8), at this time turn sharply to the east, weaving around the tree roots, and turn north into another tunnel (G-8). Once you exit the tunnel, you will be at the H-7 field (has two holes in the middle, with a dead end exit to the north, and an exit to the east - that will eventually lead to Yhoater). Go to the Northern dead end (be careful of the Gob Furriers and Smithys in the area) and you will find two Ivory Lizards. "Convert" them to EMs if needed, and have a blast leveling by using the mandra pull to grab gobs (they wander quite a bit, and link, so the mandras are a safe method). To get back, simply use the Ivory Lizards, and Death Wasps to assist in fighting gobs along your path, until you get to near the zone. Then simply grab a mandra, occupy any aggro gob, and dash to Kazham. The only other players that are here are usually lost, so the area is very secluded!

Exercitus mentioned: During Japanese hours Altepa is incredibly crowded, so you might have to do more scrounging if you want to stay in this area. Right after entering East Altepa, head north along the wall until you come to a little inlet. There should be beetles in the mouth of the inlet, and sunken ruins with Anticans around. Create your little zoo by finding a couple even beetles and start into work on the Anticans. **Can be a tough spot to level at level 36, as a few have experienced difficulties with this spot!**

MOBS TO FIGHT: Sahagins (Pond, Spring, Lake) (36-39), Ghasts (38-41), Ironshells (37-40)
NOTES: Take the first right outside of Kazham, and make your way south-east until you get down to the outpost. Don't fall in any of the holes yet. Go stand in front of the outpost looking outwards. You'll see two holes to your left, drop in the closest hole to you and make your way to the waterfall and into the cave. The Grotto is right there. Once inside, go down into the connecting tunnel directly past the first room you see. If you hang around here, you'll notice that no Sahagins spawn near enough to you to do anything, and one Bat and one Leech should be roaming around. Kill the Bat and Leech however you want until you get them as two evens. Just be careful of the WHM Sahagins (Lake Sahagin, I think) until you've got a feel for it. They can be a little tricky.
Also noted by Deebiggy: I found that killing Ghasts and Ironshells much faster XP. The location is around H-6 (just before the stone door) where there are plenty of Leeches to charm. There are ghasts and ironshells to the south of this area and on the other side of the door. Send Undead Bats and Leeches to the Ghasts and Ironshells in this area for quick exp chains without running around that much. However, this area is risky since the Leeches and Bats might link when you mis-charm.
Ridermd offered: Don't bother fighting Leeches, just use them as your pets. The link issues are more trouble than they're worth. Fight Crabs, Sahagin, and Ghasts. I found Ghasts weak against Leeches (tough DEF,Leeches take a beating) :) and Crabs are weak against Bats.
Trainable offered: get yourself to Norg and get a stack of silent oil. It will run you ~6k, but if you can plan your leveling sessions accordingly, that stack will last you until you reach 40+ in I-9. You must sneak to get there. There is a large room with four Sahagins, two Ironshell, and two Undead Bats. To the west is a hallway with a single Undead Bat spawn which never leaves. Through this hallway is a smaller room with two Spring Sahagins, two Leeches, and one Ironshell.

NOTES: Run north across the field covered with Dhalmels, Beetles, and Spiders and then go west until you can turn north again into a little cove (warning: when the winds are out, an Elemental spawns in the back of the cove, so watch out if there's weather). Here's where you just have to get lucky. The Dhalmels can spawn anywhere from even to very tough, so as you're running up there just cross your fingers and pray that at least one is even. Having just that one even Dhalmel will let you create a decent little zoo. Without at least one, you have little to no chance of clearing out the other Dhalmels who have cruelly spawned as very tough. Kill off the Beetles until you get a few that are even and then go to work on the dhalmels, trying to get as many even or tough as possible without getting yourself mauled by harder ones. Mix and match pets to avoid links and you can get through this level without too much pain. NOTES: From Kazham, jump on a choco and head South or East at every possible opportunity until you get to the very SE portion of the map. When you start noticing Goblin Poachers on your wide scan you know you will be in the right area. There is an area here with 4 Goblin Poacher spawns and around 7-8 Soldier Crawler spawns. The crawlers here do NOT aggro but they do link, so be careful when charming. Once in a while a Lava Bomb (47-49) will spawn in this spot, although he is not too difficult to defeat by using a few pets. Dia will help when fighting Goblins - just dont start the fight with the spell or the Goblins will not let you heal.

MOBS TO FIGHT: Fallen Evacuees (42-43) Puroboros (43-45), Wingrats (40-42), Clockwork Pods (44-45)
NOTES: Keep going straight past the intersection, there will be a room on your left and right. Both these rooms will have Wingrats and will be connected to rooms with two Fallens each. Kill the Wingrats until they are EM. Bats will do very well against the bones. Often you will only need one EM pet vs. T bones. The Fallens may link together, but it's fine, just Release and grab another Wingrats. If you need to heal yourself, do so out of hate range, near where the other PTs fight. Be careful of blood aggro. If you are afraid of mischarming or losing charm, drag the fight into the hallway. Also, when you clear out the Fallens on the right side, there is a Puroboros that spawns in the room across the hall. Hit that one for your 250+ chain. As long as you are prudent you will be able to easily handle the occasional bat mischarm/link. This spot is ideal because the PTs tend to focus on the Siege Bats and Beetles only, avoiding the Wingrats. Also, you are close enough to the entrance that you can help the PTs if somebody makes a train. Out of courtesy, you should avoid fighting the Siege Bats and Beetles, but if Garlaige is fairly empty, then PTs don't mind.

Now, this may also be the most difficult place you have ever levelled, let me give you some tips.
1) At 45-50 it may be better to have a BST duo, or hell, even a WHM or RDM with you (Yes, I'm serious). Sneak and Invisible will be extremely helpful. You will still gain 200 here in a duo party. Raw and I were gaining exp chain 4-5's over and over, topping out at 300 exp.
2) There is a ledge down at the bottom, the monsters CANNOT see you from there, you are free to pull as you please from there.
3) Patience. You have to wait for a Shepherd to turn around with the leech behind him, then you have to dia and run. If the pull is too risky, dont bother. You will learn when and when you cannot pull, and you will die in the process.
4) If you get linked, DO NOT GO TO THE CAPE TERRIGAN EXIT. There is a part in the terrain there, where EVERYTHING on you will somehow gain a burst of speed and hit you. Trust me, I've died there about 7 times. Just get a goblin on you and run, when you die you'll know the spot im talking about. Bune also has killed me once for going this way.
5) There may be other PT's here, they are good for one thing only: Raise 2.
6) At 50 you will begin to do some insane pulls. What I do is go to the ledge and see if there are any shepherds near, if not I begin to Sneak and Invisible. Now get ready for the fun part. Run out through all of the goblins, stand in the middle of them all (most likely) and find a shepherd. Wait for it to turn around. Use Fight on the goblin pet (Invis stays) and run back to the ledge, use heel (Invis dissapears). Wait until you can see your pet, if a link comes run.
7) Don't try to pull with the Shepherd facing the same way, it will not work

7) Don't try to pull with the Shepherd facing the same way, it will not work.

MOBS TO FIGHT: Cockatrice (50-53), Mushussu (51-57), Goblins (Hunter, Enchanter, Bouncer, Miner, Robber, Poacher, Reaper) (46-58)
NOTES: Always empty. Beware Air elementals, and Petrification from the Cockatrices. Tons of leeches for pets to "hot-swap" mid-fight.
Pucker noted: YOU NEED at LEAST a duo! The first cave is located in the upper left hand corner of the beach of the Buburimu Peninsula. Run to the water and you will see the cave. The 2nd room is located to your right. You will see a tunnel, head in there. **WARNING** a Cockatrice DOES spawn in that cave! This tunnel is nice lots of choices at the other end.
Oceanix rebutted: A duo is not necessary, although it would be a nice addition.
Valyana added: For a solo BST, the lower-level gobs are better. From the entrance, you need to get past a small room with three Goblins in it. The next tunnel is your camp; there are three Leeches here, plus another two in the big room to the north. Fight either Goblins or Cockatrices. When fighting Cockatrices, keep Blink up, and it's safest not to melee at all; you'll need to switch pets at least once, and maybe more if they use Baleful Gaze a lot. You do need to watch out for Air Elementals in this tunnel during (very common) wind weather. Fortunately the tunnel is long enough that you can get away to cast without getting aggro.

Everything here is aggro, but the Droma are only magic aggro, so you can safely rest/afk in their room, just remember to go in the hall before casting anything. The middle of the hall between the doors is a good spot. Walls DO NOT block Self-Destruct, so be sure to get far enough away when fighting bombs. I preferred the west side of the gate (G-9), as there are more Bats available there, plus a group of Fallen Officers further on if you run out of prey. Explosures and Fallen Officers drop chest keys, and you can get to all but one of the chest spawns without going through a gate. The area before Gate #3 has the same mobs, but not as many Bats.

PETS TO CHARM: Underworld Bats (50-52), Camasotz (51-54)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Droma (54-56)
NOTES: Can make about 70k gil leveling here from 52 to 54. You have to watch out for the undead that will aggro when your HP gets low and for the things that aggro to magic. You also have to run around a lot.
NotDeadZannen stated: It's safe, I make good money, and I don't even have to engage (I don't dare). I can use 2-3 DC-EM bats on T-VT Dromas and still get a nice chuck of exp while never being hit. They do cast ancient magic, so you bats take 300-700 damage hits at times. Hence why I don't dare release and engage these things. I keep Protect/Shell/Blink up at all times, and I am very safe by the stairs. There are also tons of bats and no one to bother you. Just be in store for a long trip to Feiyin. Bring enough pet food.
Damotta offered: Take the stairs down to the lower level of Fei'Yin. At the bottom of the stairs will be a hallway with a couple of Underworld Bats followed by a room with three Dromas and a Camazotz. There are also two more hallways leading from the Droma room that loop around and connect with one another which also contain Underworld Bats. I suggest killing off the Camazotz in the Droma room and using this room as your safe haven. Just make sure not to cast magic in this room as Dromas are aggro to magic. Also, it is imperative to keep Blink up while fighting Dromas as they can use Ancient magic which can do 700-900 points of damage and cannot be interrupted (at least I never could). Furthermore, there is an Utukku(ghost) located in one of the small rooms in the northern section of of the hallway loop, so don't run by with low HP or else you'll be in for a nasty surprise.

This area is still a good spot when a party camps at the E. Altepa entrance. They mostly hunt Beetles there leaving the Spiders and Anticans for yourself.
Very stress free environment without agro spawns in the first half of the Antican room, decent exp - enjoyed that zone WAY more than crowded and dangerous Crawlers Nest @ lev 53.

PETS TO CHARM: Sand Spiders (51-55), Helm Beetles (51-58)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Sand Spiders (51-55), Anticans (Signifier, Princeps, Hastatus) (52-59)
NOTES: If the caves are empty (most time of the day), head around the 2nd corner and send decent/even Spiders on even/tough Spiders, or use them to kill even/tough Anticans in the first big room. They inflict great damage, especially when they use Sickle Slash. Beetles aren't really good pets.
This area is still a good spot when a party camps at the E. Altepa entrance. They mostly hunt Beetles there leaving the Spiders and Anticans for yourself.
Very stress free environment without agro spawns in the first half of the Antican room, decent exp - enjoyed that zone WAY more than crowded and dangerous Crawlers Nest.
Nav noted: If parties in the first room give you problems by exping on your pets or targets, cast Sneak on yourself and drop down in the trench. Go to the right and follow the tunnel through to a long hallway. You are treated to ~6 DC-T beetles and ~4 Anticans here, along with a handy zoneline to Eastern Altepa Desert. The zoneline is in a handy nook that you can pull to with 2 Beetles. There is a nook towards the middle of the hall where a Princeps spawns, I've fought Anticans right in front of him in the hall and he didn't seem to care. Once you clear the hallway you can pull Anticans from the tunnel you used to get into the hallway, there are usually 3-4 wandering Anticans and a couple of Sand Eater worms. Note that Antican Princeps are PLDs. The EM ones would cast Cure 3 on themselves, the Toughs Cure IV, and fighting them can really take a while if Silence won't stick. Other then that annoyance, this is one of the safest exp places I've found.

NOTES: You'll have a bit of trouble finding even match bats, and most beetles will be VT. Nazrious stated: Hellmines give much more XP and the fact that they can explode makes for faster fights and higher chains. Taking into consideration Beetles high Evasion and Defense, Hellmines actually provide more exp per hour (around 6k in 2 hour from 55-56 ^^). However, there are only 4 hellmines so you some times find that you have no prey, and therefore kill Chamber Beetles, Fallen Officers (52-55) or Funnel Bats.
WisePiggy offered: If you go through banishing gate #2 there are no Funnel Bats to charm (only Beetles) so it is much less stressful than in the basement (Beetles are much better pets than Bats) and there is less competition from coffer hunting parties. You just have to make sure you dont die because getting back past gate #1 & #2 can be a pain. There are undead to hunt behind banishing gate #2 as well, when the hellmines are all dead.

PETS TO CHARM: Bark Spiders (60-63), Death Caps (60-63)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Bark Spiders (60-63), Death Caps (60-63)
NOTES: Beware when you attempt to charm the Mandragoras since they have a higher resistance to charm, so I would recommend having FULL AF. Although the Monster Signa is not needed, it will be VERY useful for reducing your fail rate. Remember, at this level failure isn't something with which you wish to deal. Aquarius will probably appear every so often. I would not recommend going against him alone; instead get at least 1 or 2 other BSTs to work along with you when you fight him.
Mistaaravim noted: Boyahda Tree is MEAN. Everything links and comes in large packs. The XP is great until 1) you fail a charm and die before you know what happened, or 2) you find yet another coffer key and your obsessive compulsive side says to go find the treasure. Those coffers are in very high demand and can be hard to get. And, at level 60 your even Funguar can have troubles against the highest level Spiders.
Cson noted: The best spot is J-10. There are two Spiders and two Funguar in that room. If you can convert the Funguars to EM, then you're set. A bunch of Spiders spawn in the "y" shaped corridor, and once you get in a rhythm, the spawn time seems perfect. If you find a EM Funguar in a pack somewhere else, get an EM spider from the entrance to Boyahda Tree, and send it into the pack. Release and charm the EM Funguar that comes after you. Then you can just keep him in the "y" corridor because the Funguars take their time getting back to it's original spawn location. DO NOT FIGHT the onions. They're tough little suckers, and nothing like their weak siblings in Yuhtunga or Yhoater. A coffer spawns at J-10, and that's how you get your map. The Spiders drop coffer keys.

Then use a Spider or Funguar to pull a Rabbit back into J-10, and use the Mandragora to fight it. An EM Mandragora, with your help, will easily take any T Rabbit. @ LV15 the area outside of ordelle's cave is very good, 3 fungar spawns that con EM > ST. they spawn about every 5 minutes. they are a good security blanket if none of the bats con EM in ordelle's. that is what i did primarily for the latter part of LV15, preparing for my entrance into ordelle's basically

that's another possiblity for LV15.

it's BEAUTIFUL. job well done (to say the least)!

Admin, maybe sticky this major important thread?

Comments:

37-38 you have a question mark behind bugs (?) - can hunt bugs still at this level, some are decent tho iirc.

43 West Altepa - may add that hunting grounds are in the area between East Altepa zone tunnel and Rabao entrance.

News:

44-46 I made in PT <blush>

46 I tried out Western Altepa western part, along the south wall in Revelation Rock area, there are some decent Dhalmels and decent-tough caster Anticans. Lotsa bugs there that VT to lev 46 - they may work as prey from 47 on, I will check and update tomorrow.

I added Keekee's, Ikaz's, and Marnos's comments. I also added levels to each mob (that I pulled from the strat guide or from the web) to provide a guide as to what you can expect for pets as well as for the target mobs.

Quote:

Marnos, the question marks existed (I removed them now) because I was not sure of which bugs. I went through a Beastiary and tried to infer (since I am not ready to level there at this time) the creature type. If I screwed it up, just let me know and I can fix it!^^

Thanks for compiling all the information in one post ^^ that really helps. Ill keep posting the spots i find as i lvl up ^^

by the way, you can add the Maze for lvl 32 too. It becomes slower ... but its still worth the 6K experience u need. Probably will take 1 more hour than usual, but you'll end up getting it ^^

Excellent work. Allow me to add in info from my most recent level.

Level 24
LOCATION(S): Buburimu Peninsula, Mighoya, Khoonia Dunes
PETS TO CHARM: Poison Leech (21-25)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Shoal Pugil (24-28)
NOTES: I don't claim this is the best or fastest exp, but there are usually plenty of Pugil targets and Leeches to throw at them. Frequently the Pugils were on the higher end, so it would take several Leeches and Crawlers/Dhalmels/Snippers to take one down. The fights were lengthier then normal, but the Pugs almost always con T and Bubu is full of critters to throw at them, so I had a good time. Almost always got 140 exp including penalty per Pug. Labryinth of Onzozo entrance is on on Mighoya Dunes, so you have a quick zone if things go rotten.

i would just like to confirm on Durginn's recommendation on Qufim at level 25. it is awesome there! i thought i would have to compete with noob parties, but they stayed in the mouth of the cave, at the lake or at delkfut entrance. the rest of qufim was my playground. the giants were not a problem, because as being a BST you've already become used to treading in dangerous waters. i was charming clippers right out from under giant's noses. (although i am thinking of switch back to rolanberry for the sheer fact that crawler's drop silk)

/applaud <durginn>

thank you again. this is going to be amazingly helpful in the next few months, haha.

Levels 12-14 (Level 12, Beastmaster gains Job Ability: Reward)
(3) LOCATION(S): Konschtat Highland (Far Eastern/ Middle Eastern and Far Western/Middle Western edges of the zone)
PETS TO CHARM: Mad Sheep (11-13)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Goblins, Mad Sheep (11-13)
NOTES: Use even matched or decent Sheep for fighting. Make sure to use Dia and Paralyze if you have it, against the goblins.

I charmed even sheep to fight tough goblins. Some goblins can be pretty tough, but luckily there are PLENTY of sheep around to help out with that issue. I had one goblin go through two even sheep and 1-2 decents. Crazy part was I had Dia and Paralyze casted on him too. It only said it was tough. O_o

(4) LOCATION(S): Dangruf Wadi (on the right side of the map up the geyser)
PETS TO CHARM: Wadi Leech (11-14)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Any of the various types of Goblins
NOTES: Even at 13 the leeches there were all decent and even cons to me. This area is mostly just full of leeches and goblins, be careful of links.

MOBS TO FIGHT: Ghasts (38-41), Ironshells (37-40)

B.T.W. thanks for the great post. I took UserThree's suggestion in hunting down sahagins but found killing Ghasts and Ironshells much faster exp. The location is around H-6 (just before the stone door) where there are plenty of leeches to charm. There are ghasts and ironshells to the south of this area and on the other side of the door. So send undead bats and leeches to the ghasts and ironshells in this area for quick exp chains without running around that much. However, this area is risky since the leeches and bats might link when you miss-charm.

I added KudomaBooYah's and deebiggy's spots. KudomaBooYah, I adjusted the level of the Wadi Leech from your original post. Your comments about the Leeches checking DC or EM clued me in that the strat guide was incorrect. What I discovered is that the strat guide listed only the 'Monster Caught Fishing' levels of the Leech, and not the organic creature's levels (An error on their part). I scanned the web and found what I believe are the land versions of the Wadi Leech.

Quote:

Actually, you were my inspiration. Since my game time is slowing down due to classes and other commitments, I saw that I had a window of free time and decided to compile the information. Additional thanks goes out to all of the Beastmasters who took the time to post their info. Besides, who wouldn't rather be leveling their character, instead of typing up information? Considering the appaling lack of Beastmaster information anywhere else on the web, I figured we should start now to remedy the situation.

An additional note about the leveling guide: I attempted to break out EACH level with the information provided. Some levels (i.e. Levels 12-14) are grouped together because the Beastmasters who provided information suggested that these levels could be gained by employing the same techniques. If you have a specific level with a grouped set (i.e. Level 13), then let me know, and I will break out the post into specific levels. I only grouped levels together if the information was EXACTLY the same for EACH level. If any level differed (i.e. a new area, or different mobs), then I posted them separately.

Keep providing the additions/comments/corrections! It will only serve to make this thread more valuable for those who will follow in our footsteps.

Thanks again for all your support!

Happy Hunting!

I thought that was an error myself, being that they said DC and EM when they site said thier lvls were much higher. I edited my post to fit with the correct information you had updated before even reading your post, lol. I'm glad you caught that though.

I can break down the areas I listed in to specific lvls if you would like me to.

Dangruf Wadi can be for 13. I'm not sure of 14 though, because I have not been there at this lvl yet. You can venture into Wadi at earlier lvls (maybe around 10-12?), but you would be killing the lizards and rabbits on the lower areas. At 13 I had to move up.

As far as Konschtat Highlands goes, it is great for a few lvls. I have been there from around 10-14, off and on. Starting with worms, moving up to bees and lizards, then sheep, then sheep and goblins. If you are just stating areas for lvls then you can classify Konschtat Highlands as 10-14. But if you want to also specify the mobs to fight at each of those lvls, then that's a different story.

Also I found a typo...no big deal..but here it is...

Level 31
(3) LOCATION(S): Maze of Shakhrami (Near the Buburimu Peninsula zone)
PETS TO CHARM: Caterchipillar (29-31), Ancient Bats (26-29)
MOBS TO FIGHT: Goblins (Furrier, Pathfinder, Smithy, Shaman) (31-14)
NOTES: Be careful, the Caterchipillars and Ancient Bats aggro. Slow at level 32, but still generates XP for leveling purposes.

That is usually the story of most Beastmasters...they will move around, trying different areas until they find a suitable spot to hunt. I am not overly concerned at the moment, about having to break out the levels, if the level range still works. And, if you cannot remember what you hunted (my memory is getting hazy at this point), then no worries. I am sure other Beastmasters will offer their success stories down the road.

Again, thanks for your help!

Anytime ^^

You fixed the error on lvl 32, but 30 and 31 still have the same typo. I think that is just because of the copying and pasting.

As far as the breaking down of the areas into certain mobs for each lvl, I can't remember much about it either. Sad part is, it was only a lvl or two ago. ;;

I will keep up on submitting new information as I explore somemore into the world of the BST. As for now though, I need to take a break from FFXI. I am going on vacation for a week and a half. Keep this thread alive. :)

Great looking post, it should help me find some nice spots to level my BST. I have one question though, and maybe i'm missing something, but why are worms listed multiple times as "Enemies to Charm"? As far as I can tell, its completely pointless charming worms as they're immobile. I tried charming a Carrion Worm in W. Ronfaure just for fun, and as I suspected he just stayed planted in the ground. So, I purposely got agrod by a gob and brought the gob next to the worm, and told the worm to fight the gob, figuring if the gob was within range he would be able to do it, but no...the worm just sat there. He didn't even cast any Stone spells. What's the deal? Am I missing something, or should worms be removed from your list of mobs to charm?

Just want to add another note on Jugner Forest.

A great spot for level 22 -> 24. Easy, safe and fast. Run back and forth between the two zones (stay on the road), and send Leeches against every Tough Funguar you see. The nice thing about those mobs is that you always know where they are (1-3 Funguar in each crevice, aswell as 3-6 Leeches). By the time you have finished the road, most of them should have respawned. Start by sending Even/Decent Funguars against the Tough one, to avoid them linking later. ~1500xp pr run :)

I've been in Jugner for 5 levels now, and i can't say enough how much easier/relaxed it is to level there instead of Valkurm. If you want a change of pace, enter Batallia and charm/kill Gadflies (at lvl 24 they con even/tough).

You fixed the error on lvl 32, but 30 and 31 still have the same typo. I think that is just because of the copying and pasting.

Yep, I was cutting and pasting! Thanks again, this time I fixed them all (although I am sure I am missing others...)

Worms can be used as pets, especially as a finishing pet or an emergency pet. When you use charm a worm, you need to drag the target mob right next to your new pet, so the worm can melee attack the aggressing mob. After the worm lands a few hits, the target mob will usually stand there and return blows. When you launch "Heel", the worm will just stop fighting, and stay in the same location. Basically a "Heel" command on a worm acts like a "Heel"+"Stay" command combo with just one macro.

Worms will not launch spells until given the "Sic" command. And, considering that they are usually in melee combat with the target mob, most of the times they will instead launch another special attack. Hope this post helps out when encountering worms.

Defster, Jesher, I am adding your information now. Thank you very much!

Edit: Fixed some grammer issues

At 41 ---> Western Altepa Desert

Charm DC/EM spiders, send at T Spiders and Worms.

Been able to get exp chain 4 multiple times in a row for usually 180+ each time, up to 250.

Holy god does this place own.

Near Rabao :D

I am 54 around, and i have a new place to add to that...

Well, I would like to point out that you could work near the outpost at Zitah, or you can work the other site which is I feel much safer to work at. There is a spot if you look at section F-9, a small narrow path there. If you run by choco you will notice it is actually a dip there between that section and the section with the gobs. I would recommend working from that spot to pull in the gobs, I have not seen anything spawn there and I have worked that spot from lv 43-47 and nothing ever spawned on me there. You will find that the outpost is rather unsafe at times since monsters can sometimes spawn so close that they are bascially inside the area where the NPCs are. The spot at F-9, the only thing I have seen that comes remotely dangerous is the hell hound that randomly spawns in the large space area of F-9 and G-9, it does not spawn in that little narrow space where you work but it can be close enough that if you have your HP at yellow it might start looking for you. Always have a instant warp scroll handy in this place or if you have a teleport service that is good too.

Also, at around 46 or was it 47-49 or 50(would be safer) you can try working gustav if I remember correctly, the leechs there are great against gobs. Also, goblinsavior heronox spawns here and is a good source of income to kill. Be very careful with goblinsavior... IT will take running around and training many things in the area, it took me around 8-10 mins worth of running back and forth training much of what I saw to take him down.

50(maybe 51 is better)-52, I would say lab lizards in crawlers are a good source to work on. This is also a very good place to farm as people do buy lizard skins and the lizards also drop keys to the chest. You will notice that the lizards have a very incredible drop rate, I have killed many lizards in there and I have NEVER seen it not drop something, on average I would say it drops 3-4 items, and this area has 6 spawn locations for the chest, a 7th in the other exoray area near the lab lizards. So farm and level at the same time.

52-53, Exorays! fun... Yes by now you can work with exorays, well actually you would work with them before that depending if you work at the donut room(train soldiers and some flys). Or if you work in the other area and train witchhazels.

53-54, from Exorays you immediately graduate to taking on blazers, mushuushuus, and even rumblers. You can use flys, exorays, mushuushuus(if you find an even), rumblers(if you find an even), and blazers(decent-tough).

i would say from 54-56 a good place to try level up is... Ronperre's Tomb. Yes, i am talking about that low level area in East Ronfarre. However, if you look around and find a area with a large slab and a ???, and enter that you will come down to the lower MUCH higher level area... Your targets are the goblins, Bouncer, Raider, Enchanter, and Hunters. Your mob to train.. Funnel Bats, which con from decent all the way to tough. It is very difficult to work here but the EXP is relatively good considering that the gobs will con to you decent-VT, most are tough though. When working in this area it is perhaps best to kill of all the tough funnels and have them respawn until you have a decent and even mix at the beginning of that section. Then use sneak and careful work the goblins in this area.

On occasion there will be a wandering low-leveler, please be nice and warn them to get the hell out of there if they value their lives... I have already seen 2 of them die even after i repeatedly warned them to get out of the area.

Another decent spot to level from 36 to 38 is in the Hidden Valley in Yuhtunga Jungle right outside the entrance to the Sea Serpent Grotto. You can charm Monkeys and Pugils and easily get high experience chains. At 35 I was easily getting 250-200 a mob but it was taking to long to get the Sahagins life down so no chains,so stick to the lizard/gob spot, but at 36 and 37 its great though, and you make good money too.

Thank you UserThree for bringing this thread up to and past level 50! Please let me know if I incorrectly attributed the levels and Beasts from your posts.

Thanks Mundane for adding depth to the Yuhtunga Jungle posts. More options are always welcome, and it offers versatility to the BST's hunting grounds!

I also pulled Swarren's excellent information about the Horutoto Ruins as another means to break out of the level 15 slump. Thanks Swarren for the great suggestion!

Happy Hunting!

A general observation on levels 25,26,27 (I use the in game markers to mark off BST leveling spots for future reference, but space is limited so for time to time I'll use this thread for notes).

25 for me was a real hump level. I found Qufim to have plenty of Tough targets and not enough Evens, so I did about 4k of it in a couple of days in Rolanberry. Almost exclusively on Gobbues, who as noted in the above guide, are quite the challenge. I used the Decent-Even leeches (you'll be dodging IT Goblins, be advised) that hang out near the Fountain of Promises (E-9) to soften up Gobbues and nearby Death Wasps as finishing pets.

Gobbues hit hard. Real hard, and if they use Beatdown they can chew through pets quickly. I picked Gobbues as a target not only for the exp (160 usually with the penalty), but because they are usually so scattered that linking is rare. Linking and hunting spots being so far from zone were my two biggest problems here.

The third day in Rolanberry was quite abysmal, the Berry Grubs were being farmed and even the Death Wasps were hard to find. After a few deaths I was about 1500 from 27. I'd make a little forward progress and lose it to death. I decided the risk was too great and went back to Valkurm and used Easy leeches to kill Decent Goblins en masse. It was a grind, but the downtime was minimum and no loss of experience, so it was worth it to me.

At 26 I went down to Qufim and found there to be an abundance of Even Clippers I could use on worms. No real problems here, I mostly hunted the worms at H-6 to I-7. Occasionally you'll have to compete with parties in the crevice that links that area to the tower for pets/targets. Bring Selbina Milk, it negates Rasp beautifully. At night Even Seeker Bats spawned, great pets that poof when uncharmed if the sun is up.

At 27 I tested Clipper Vs Clipper, but wasn't satisfied as Clippers have Bubble Shower (AoE spell that lowers STR) and Metallic Body (some type of stoneskin) which make them great pets, but as foes it seemed to be a war of attrition, so I did Clippers -> Decent Worms for easy experience. At night I found plenty of Even Dark Bats for pets. I also tried Even Clipper Vs T Giant and it was pretty easy, but I'm the sort that cherishes levels with worms, so I stuck to that.

Late in 27 I discovered that the first room of the entrance to Behemoth's Domain spawned Even Ancient and Seeker Bats, for the risk takers and Jet Stream junkies. Convenient if you want a steady supply of bat pets near the tower. Or a spectacular death to linked bats.

Hope someone finds this useful.

Y'know those IT goblins? Use them to your advantage. At 25-26 I did the goblins outside Rolanberry fields (Aside from Smithys and Ambushers) for 200+ EXP each, with my pet alive. I managed to chain IT's quite easily.

These levels were insanely fast for me.

Hehe, Userthree nice stuff. I've not really been in the areas you have put down. ;p

Here's where I lvled:

47-49/50

Labyrinth of Onzozo: Leech --> Cockatrice

Nice spot, always empty. Beware Air elementals, and Petrification from the Cockatrices. But they are intimidated by Leeches so it's a nice spot. TONS of leeches too, so you can 'hot-swap' as I call it, when your first pet gets low on health (or petrified).

50-54

Crawler's Nest:

Back in here using various things. Soldier crawlers and hornflies I think, then eventually Exorays when they were even match. Exorays truly make awesome pets. They can happily take on tough mobs even when they were only 'high' decent challenges themselves. Beware Water Elementals. ;x

54/55-59/60

Garlaige Citadel: Funnel bats --> Chamber beetles

At 54 you'll have a bit of trouble finding even match bats, and most beetles will be VT, but at 55, it will be easier. Beetles usually take 2 bats, but it works well. Easier as you get higher. At 56-57 you can use beetles themselves against stuff like Fallen Mages/Majors or Hellmines. Most of this stuff which is VT can be duoed with another bst and makes for fast and safe xp. Beware, Serket spawns in this basement area. ;p

Nav and Lilyanne, thank you very much for your notes / additional leveling areas. I added your info to the main thread.

All, please continue submitting your leveling spots, so we can build a comprehensive guide to the nice leveling areas for Beastmasters. If you do not want anyone moving in while you hunt, then give us your sweet hunting grounds after you have moved on, and no longer need the area.

Happy Hunting!

I just wanted to add some info for levels 8-10, which I am currently

At level 8 in Tahrongi, most of the mobs in the passage before the open area checked even-tough. I just took an even Strolling Sapling or Pygmoi against a tough Canyon Rarab. Since Rarabs are intimidated by them, they get whittled down to almost no HP before I finish them off. Once I finish with one spawn zone, I would just keep moving on to another, rotating about 3-4 different zones. At 9 there are fewer evens and toughs, but I would just solo decents until I found a suitable charm situation. I went from 8-10 very quickly doing this. I was even able to do a few chains, which helped immensely

Since very few people are ever here (20-50 at most), I get the area to myself pretty much. Now that Kolshushu was finally taken by Windurst (only time I can remember it happening on Fairy), I get crystals there now also.

Great thread by the way, and although I am new to the job, I love it so far and plan to take it as far as I can go.

maybe it was just me, but i tried these IT gobs in rolanberry, and they tore right through my pets. leeches and crabs and crawlers... everything. they ripped them to pieces. either by goblin rush, banish or drain... i found my self scramblin for more pets and eventually zoning to crawler's nest.

can you elaborate on how you were able to get your pet to survive, cuz i like rolanberry field over qufim. i'd like to lvl there, i just find that the pets there are pretty poor in quality. i've tried the lakes to the southwest and dem????'s field too. crawler vs. crawler is all that seems to work for me :(

Butting in to mention a valuable moghancement for BST, using beds to reduce experience loss from death. Around level 25 I bought a Bronze Bed for $6k and put it in my Mog House to receive Moghancement:Experience. Basically just by having the bed active in your house (placed, not in your safe), the amount of experience you lose when you die is reduced by a small bit.

I noticed on the next death (xxx/5200) that I lost 400 experience instead of 520. This isn't a huge amount, but every bit helps since a most of the time we don't have a WHM around to raise us, or we are hunting in rarely traveled spots. Note that the bed only helps with death & release, if you are raised you'll get back a percentage of experience from the raise, not the bed.

I mention Bronze, as it's the only one I've tried, but I believe the other beds also work. If someone knows a correlation between the quality of bed & the amount of experience you lose on death, chime in.

I fought just outside rolanberry and sent tons and tons of bats and bees at them, if you set it up right you can have the goblin attempt to throw a bomb at you when your monster dies, and it will blow him up 100% of the time.

However, I do not know how to explain, nor do I remember, how i did this.

Garliege citadel is the best place i have found to lvl bst from 54-58 however small correction on beetles though they give good exp Hellmines give much more and the fact that they can explode makes for faster fights and higher chains... taking into consideration Beetles high Evasion and def Hellmines actually provide more exp per hour (around 6k in 2 hour from 55-56 ^^) however there are only 4 hellmines so you some times find that you have no prey to exp off and can either kill beetles skells or even Tough con bats. Also Grb Job with getting all this info into one spot very cool thing you did ^^

I love this guide very informative...

However, it seems to favor San'd and Bastok.
Are there any areas near windhurst when starting out?
I see the Canyon mentioned but thats lvl 12-14 what about the rest of the levels?

I Giddeus ever a good place?
What about the Horutoto Ruins?

I just started Beastmaster and love the charm ability I just wish there was some guide to show what chr that is needed to charm each monster.

I just want to thank all of the players who share information like this, it's a big help. A lot of the suggestions in these threads have been extremely useful.

Just trying to help a little bit, I'll say that by about level 6 as a taru beastmaster I was able to use charm pretty effectively. Doing so helped me learn how to begin playing beastmaster in a level range where the deaths didn't hurt as much XP-wise when I made mistakes.

Paleer, I see you are on Kujata.

I heard that horo ruins were OK for a whole range of lvls a bit like ordelles caves, but for sure take a look at the link I posted above for areas near you.

Also, being on Kujata, you might like to send me a /tell and grab a linkpearl for Noah'sArk Linkshell. We are still small and often not m(any) on but we will be able to help out with BSTy stuff.

Have fun...

Buburimu Peninsula have some nice spots for level 17-18ish, for example E-9. Lots of Sylvestre (15-18), some Mighty Rarabs (15-18) and goblins (17-20) spawning occasionally in the area.

first off, i'd like to say thanks to durginn for taking the time to compile this list.

excellent.

now my $0.02 as i have just leveled from 23 to 39 in the last 1.5 weeks... want to chime in how well the list worked for me.

lvl 39, 38, 37: sea serpent grotto ALL THE WAY. don't bother fighting against leeches, just use them as your pets... the link issues are more trouble than they're worth. take out the crabs, sagahin, and ghasts. i found ghasts weak against leeches (tough DEF,leeches take a beating) :) and crabs are weak against bats.

lvl 36,35: again i agree EXACTLY with previous posters about that cave in yuhtunga, that place is comfotable, and you will make quite a bit of pocket change (gil) along the way.

lvl 34, 33: I found East Altepa to be the best spot to level. i tried out qufim's acrophies, but they just weren't worth the headache. Tough MOFOs who like i pointed out above, being a leech class, have quite a bit of DEF for their con, always needing at least 2 pugs to chew up, in addition to me beating on the thing too with its hp 1/2 to 1/3 down...

more reasons why qufim sucks at 33-34:
- competing for pug pets with parties who want to kill them
- night time agro from banshees and wights even though they're not very hard to kill (DCs)... the last thing i want to worry about when working on acrophies is dealing with an agro from behind, DC or not. :P
- crabs get owned by acrophies... they're just a speed bump.

why east altepa works and how to make the most of it:
1) just charm DC and EM spiders... to take out other EM and T spiders... T beetles are great if you can find them, but the spread at 33-34 will be T to IT. you will find the occassional T antican to beat on... those are nice too. Dhamels DONT TOUCH EM AT THIS LEVEL. leave em alone and they'll leave u alone.
2) nothing here agros except sabotendaurs (cactus-like folk), anticans, the nasty doom scorpion guarding the pit, and the occassional flesh eater (don't even think about solo-ing it at 32-33...possible, but not likely).
3) most common complaint about E altepa: "It's so spread out?! How do you find stuff to kill?"
- this is a level, like back in the teens when u might have
done buburimu peninsula, to get to know and love "wide scan."
well utilized, these two levels will be a relaxing stroll through the desert as spiders really aren't that tough (definitely not like acrophies)

lvl 32 - absolutely the worst bst level since my bst job was in the teens... horrible. horrible. horrible.
tips on suffering through this ordeal:
- be content on killing EMs and DCs... if you're not leveling your 1h axe here, no worries, you'll make it up later on... plenty of Ts in the mid to high 30s to beat on and raise your axe skill.
- i tried: rolanberry, battalia, qufim, korroloka, YUHTUNGA jungle even, shrakrami, and East altepa (too hard).
- after traveling the world, and dying quite a few times, i settled on korroloka tunnel

lvl 30-31: korroloka tunnel rocks. check out the pools where the pugs and snippers reside. EXCELLENT PLACE...take out T pugs and crabs with DC and EM crabs. when u've momentarily cleaned out the pools, check out the next door spider hangout to kill spiders and more pugs...there's even an occassional sea monk, and hell even an NM spider, i almost killed at lvl 31...got it down to <2% health b4 i ran out of pets to throw at it... wiped me out.

hope this helps supplement the guide. any questions or criticisms, shoot em my way.

Fairy server: 48 SAM/39 BST/30 WAR/30 MNK/21 BLM/21 WHM/15 THF
have a nice day, and thanks again to durginn for this service to his fellow beastmasters.

one more addendum to this guide:

if ALL else fails, and you're just stuck somewhere (like lvl 32 for me), you've exhausted all your options and there's no BST to duo with (MUCH MORE FUN) and its just absolutely miserable, worst comes worst...

- join a party and lvl where everyone else does. know what you're gonna hunt, then grab a couple stacks of pets-in-jugs that are appropriate to those mobs u will hunt (ie. lizards are excellent to take against crawlers in CN) this is advice coming from a 50-something bst passed onto me. he skipped soloing 32-34 by partying in the usual places (yhoator and eldieme and CN)

enjoy~ ^^
