Probably safe to assume that it's the same as it is for players, which would be -50% (technically -51% or maybe -52%, for the same reason that we need +26% haste and -102% spell interruption to cap those)

Cap probably is only reachable in Abyssea with the assistance of atma, I'd bet.

Although if I'm wrong on either of those accounts, I'm sure I'll be corrected fairly quick.

I believe the cap was found to be in the neighborhood of 75 to 80%. It's definitely higher than 50%. If it was only 50%, BSTs would have just equipped Ducal Guard and not bothered with any gear for further pet -PDT (even after the nerf to pet -PDT).

I think the "complete" pet -PDT build in Abyssea post-nerf was something like:
Ducal Guard - 50%
2xGuichard's Axe +3 (back before cap was raised to 99) - 20%
Stout Servant + Ferine Quijotes +2 - ~7%
Shepherd's Chain - 2%

Did a search of the BST forum, had to go a few pages back, but here are a couple threads I found:

The number that kept getting mentioned was 87.5%. So I think the correct set for my post above should have replaced Shephard's Chain with Anwig Salade augmented with pet -DT.

Well, that's interesting, and also rather unfair...

Did anyone ever actually confirm if having Ducal Guard atma active on a player makes any sort of -PDT gear useless (since it would put you at the cap by itself)?

Yes it makes all gear do nothing. It's also completely worthless for players, as taking half damage at half your hp is the same as taking normal damage at full hp. It only has a use because of pets' higher cap.

what do you mean unfair? it used to be that mobs had no cap to damage reduction and you could hit 100%
87.5% is much more fair.

Also, outside abyssea the highest you can get w/ gear is still just shy of 50%

Well, more seriously, Player vs Mob mechanics have several significant differences.
Saying its not fair is saying its not 'baransed' ..
Pld can get the same level of damage reduction, but you need relic/empyrean iirc.

Also, bst main can actually get up to 62.5% damage reduction using gausape and killer effects.

but really, its the end-use of these abilities which would make it fair or not. On the outside, 50% vs 87.5% sounds like a huge disparity. but Players have much more curing and other tools available compared to pets. Comparing the damage mitigation caps alone doesn't really compare the balance.
