Possible at all, or too much damage taken to keep up with? I know Archeron Flame or w/e it's called can wreck you pretty quickly. Maybe a big fire-resist atma?

For Orthrus, I'm reading that Scorching Lash is used when the target with the most emnity is behind the NM, and it's weaker than the other TP moves. Is this a situation where "tail-tanking" it can prevent the huge damage moves from being used? If so, it might be a pretty easy solo...

It would be a very challenging fight, I tried to solo these for Atheling mantle and had to warp out on Amarok, the problem is Magma Hoplon, if you can't dispel it it makes the fight impossible as the regen is greater than the damage your pet can do (a 2 hour'd pet with augmented relic +2 legs). I didn't have enough confidence to melee with my pet due to Ululation + Firaga III, even with /DNC. So it's all down to your pet unless you have some amazing fire resist atma, but even if you did you would have to replace DD atma and then Hoplon would nail you if you can't dispel it. If you can dispel Hoplon (maybe /RDM? though I seriously doubt dispel will work on such a mob from only sub job skill level) then you might stand a chance as my pet could easily withstand his damage (with DG, MC and RR atma + -25% PDT in gear and Ferine +2 legs) but I only got him down to about 70% I think before he used Hoplon, I warped once his regen took him back past the 90% mark.

My solution was to jump on NIN and brew Amarok then switch to THF and brew Orthrus as I knew that Amarok alone would take some beating and I didn't want to waste so much money and time experimenting on him, if you can't dispel Hoplon then it's all over anyway, everything else he does is reasonably easy to deal with, it's just damage for the most part and that's nothing that a good reward set, good atma and mulsums can't handle usually. Then you've got Orthrus to deal with.....

You're forgetting about /SCH. You would have access to dispel and the skill to have it hit, too.
