Im just curious if anyone has any input on this. I was wondering if Bar-Elements + Runes that give resistance is noticeable? I know some bar spells are a little noticeable but is it even more so with the runes? to the point that is good or just meh?

It's definitely noticeable when it comes to resisting status ailments (such as the Paralysis TP moves from Umbrils), but I've yet to fight anything that casts magic to any real degree in order to determine if the resist rate on nukes is huge. However, given how noticeable it is with status ailments, I'd venture to say it'd be equally good with straight up magic.

I've only taken RUN to 10 so far, but I've been stacking the Bar-spells with my runes in macros as I get them. For example, from 5-10 I macroed in Barstone with Flabra & fought the Stone Eaters in South Gustaberg. I believe that gave me around 50 Earth resist, which seems pretty high for such a low level. The worms did virtually no damage to me.

As I level up, I'm thinking about doing the status Bar-spells in those same macros.

Mechanically, it depends entirely on the mob. Historically, a resist set shined on mobs like Tiamat with a fire set. People fought it enough to basically figure out the rough MACC of its various abilities. In turn, resists act as the MEVA in the equation. On the other hand, you'll get mobs like Anticans where their Jamming Wave ability is pretty **** accurate even if you stack Baraero/Barsilence as a high level against the weakest anticans possible. In the end, if SE wants a specific magic attack or debuff to land, it's gonna happen. Long term, we'll probably never see a situation where BRDs would use Carols and other resisty tactics over their offensive songs due to such overwhelming force and offense being the best defense in XI. Stuff like Signet's defense bonus also comes into if it applies. And as a general rule, going negative resists almost always seems to guarantee something will land.

Yes, you really notice it at higher levels especially.
When you have 250+ resistance, Shell V, and Vallation active you will seriously notice it.

Monks, Warriors, and Ninjas could be getting hammered for 1300-2000 by something like Acheron Flame whilst you'd be unlucky to take anymore than 200 and not outright resist the Burn effect.

Very tempted to bring Rune Fencer to the next Achuka fight I come along to and seeing how I do there.

Just my brief experience with mobs casting magic. I was Lv 11 run, was camping the crab nm in saruta, the one that drops the low Lv 5 mp shield ( for geo) I had barwater, the water resist rune and callation, all of the nms spells hit me for 0. I was just impressed that their magic def is so much better than a whm.

But short answer, yes, you will see a difference with barspells and runes, especially once you get higher and can stack 3 of the same rune with the barspell.

Yeah, Im 99 atm and was in a Doll pt today. Doll hit Meltdown and wiped everyone on it. I took about 350 damage. Not scared of a mob that deals magic damage, terrified of things that punch me in the face...

You need to cycle Protect IV, Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx, and one of the elemental Spikes. When I run that macro and follow it up with my elemental tunes, I'm pretty well off.

I am pretty sure Jamming Wave never EVER misses unless Resist Silence procs, or unless you've got something like Fealty/Divine Caress up.

There's another few abilities like that, such as Choke Chain from ramparts, which never seems to fail to inflict amnesia under normal circumstances.
