A simple change, so many good reasons.Follow

The following change:

Alter the skillchain properties of the Polearm weaponskill Double Thrust, so that Double Thrust includes an Alpha and a Beta priority for Renkei creation.

The Alpha Property would be in Ice, to close Level 1 Induration, open Level 1 Compression and Impaction, and Level 2 Fragmentation.

The Beta Property to be in Light, to close Level 1 Transfixion, open Level 1 Compression and Level 2 Distortion. (this placement is identical to the existing Double Thrust Renkei placement, although it won't make Reverberation due to the overriding priority of the new Alpha Property)

What this will achieve

1) Polearm (and hence DRGs) will be the number one early and mid game opener for Level 2 Fragmentation Renkei. This gives DRGs, who have A+ Polearm and exclusive access to the best Polearms pole position at killing flying critters, which tend to be vulnerable to both Wind and Piercing Damage.

2) We might see something other than mindless repetition of Distortion for 60 levels.

3) Viable backup weapon reasons for WAR and SAM to utilise Polearm in the early and mid game for flexibility (in a similar way to how WARs nowadays will use GSword in order to open Distortion)

The basic idea though, is to give DRGs the same kind of Damage & Renkei pairing that MNKs get with Fusion - an element and damage type that work together, not to make them hideously overpowered at everything, but to give them an advantage at their own specialisation - killing anything with wings.

Good idea I say, and well reasoned.

I like the idea of making the polearm a more useful weapon in these levels, but I think perhaps Samurai should have their ability in polearm reduced. SAM are natural TP builders, and if they can do this chain between them fast, then it then technically reduces Dragoons usefulness.

Edit: I don't have a renkai chart to hand, so can't specify if SAM can close the SC, but if they can this should be considered.

SAM can only close Fragmentation if they sub RNG and use Piercing Arrow at the low levels. The earliest Great Katana Weaponskill to close Fragmentation is Tachi: Koki at 175 skill (level 55).

By 60, Samurai can open Fragmentation with Tachi: Yukikaze, and at 65 they can close it with Tachi: Gekko.

I don't think reducing Samurai Polearm skill is really necessary - look at the difference between the DRG equipable Polearms (the heavy Lances) and an equivalent level SAM or WAR usable one (Spears and Forks) and you'll see that DRG are always going to have a massive headstart in Weaponskill damage from that alone.

The difference between DRG-only Polearms and general ones is actually greater - by a lot - than the difference between DRK-only Great Swords and general ones - it's the skill cap that really makes a difference past level 30 or so. Of course before 30 SAM don't have that much of a TP advantage.

EDIT: Typo
