Do you think this game would get really populated again with a little publicity and maybe the price cut in half? (monthly)

I very much doubt it. €10 isnt a steep price at all. People that want to play this game wouldn't mind paying for it. And there's a free trial for people who are interested in how things are right now.

It's a 10 year old game. People that wanted to play it are playing it right now, or already have. It's not going to draw in any new players. At most some returnee's who miss the game. They either quit after a month again, or dont mind paying the monthly fee.

And to take it a step further, Free-To-Play would kill off both this game and all of SE's income. With as big of a flop as XIII and XIV were, XI is the only thing making money for them right now. If they were to turn it Free-To-Play (which i can asure you they will not), the last shred of skill and effort doesnt matter anymore. Just who has the biggest RL wallet to buy the largest amount of endgame gear or gil. Yes, income will be generated for SE for a little bit, but i cant think of anyone who would want to keep playing a game where you can just buy yourself into level 99 and relics.

That said, SE absolutely sucks at advertisement these days. I remember the last Square Enix advertisement i saw was for Final Fantasy 7... 15 years ago... It looked so good, it instantly made me buy it. They just havent been trying ever since. If they would have promoted FFXI 10 years ago, instead of relying on a "hype" that would "sell itself", we would have had a 10-fold amount of players. Same for FFXIV (despite a too early release, for a too poor product, that they ruined update after update after releasing it), never saw a single advertisement for it in Europe.

I think the population for XI would have to be about 25% what it is now before they considered it.

As it is, they've got a steady revenue stream of a million dollars from XI. and a relatively stable player base of around 100-150K players (which could swell up as high as 200K by the time the next expansion comes out, what with all the returnees.) They're not going to tinker with this model unless XIV turns out to be some crazy runaway success and could take its place. And we won't know that for a few years yet.

I agree mostly. I wasn't wanting it to be f2p. If there was no income there would be no more updates. I just think 5$ is a good price for a 10-year old game. I don't have time to play it more then 1-2 hours a week and that doesn't justify 10$ a month for me personally. I played this game way back when zones were filled with people and that's when it was fun for me. So 5$ = more people = more fun IMO.

30 days of entertainment isn't worth 10 bucks? You must feel really cheated by getting an hour and a half long movie for the same price.

Mellowy is awesome, now.

I think one thing they might consider doing is reducing the cost of mules. 10 bucks flat rate is a good deal but who can seriously live without any mules at all? I mean I've got a whole mule dedicated to abyssea papers, WoE coins and AF3+2 upgrade items, nevermind low level gear, crafting materials I will need etc.

I usually only turn on my mules for part of a cycle but 1 dollar each is too steep for something that is nothing but a workaround for a inventory system that isn't tuned to how many untradeable bits and bobs we get. I mean I guess I could not take those extra papers dropping to the floor, or obsessively turn each and every one of them into empy gear immediately or something, but I don't particularly like wasting my time needlessly, especially in a game rife with endless time sinks already.

I think they should make it 10 bucks even for 5 chars, and then 2 bucks each after that (or something)

it is a tad expensive for such an old game but ftp sadly wont happen.
se has nothing to offer in any cash shop.
they have no mounts no pets...wouldnt dare even sell lv 1 gear, no boosts would even be needed with the game content as is, no cosutuming, nothing to work with at all.

for now we will be paying full price and it really is their main income so you cant blame em really.
if ffxiv does do well, maybe in the future things would change.
at the pace change actually happens in 11 though.... i would not hold my breath. Oo
