This is a rant. Nothing more, nothing less. It's on a very tentative subject - powerlevelling. There are eighty bajillion threads about powerlevelling on this forum, soon to be eighty bajillion and one. So why do I make another? Simply put, I'm fed up.

(Forewarning: two part rant.)

I've been levelling lowbie jobs lately, when I'm not idling in Upper Jeuno. Almost every single party I've been invited to, upon asking what the party makeup was, I get the same reply: "We're being powerlevelled." Most of the time with considerably less grammar, mind you.

I say that's fine, but no thanks, I'd rather not be in a powerlevelled party. This is what I don't understand. Nine times out of ten (give or take), these people simply can not take no for an answer. They feel it in their need to try to justify themselves to me, and then to berate me ("Don't you want to level? Why are you seeking, then?"), continuously, ad infinitum, long after I've stopped talking.

Now, why is it these people just cannot take no for an answer? Surely if they're being powerlevelled they can just pick up anybody and go exp, right? I respect your right to want a powerlevel. Please respect my right to not want one.

Part Deux

Those times I'm not seeking on lowbie jobs, I'm idling in Upper Jeuno. Being that my highest jobs are Red Mage and White Mage, I tend to idle on those. Over the past day and a half, I've received no less than six tells asking me to powerlevel their party. At level 44. Again, I politely say no, and the subject in question proceeds to flame me and tell me it's my job to heal people; I'm a mage. I don't remember his name... something with Bran in it, I think. Anyway.

Wtf? Am I missing something here? It's my job to give other people a free ride when I worked my **** off to get where I am ingame? I realize I could go /anon and save myself some trouble, but that means missing out on those people that genuinely need help and aren't afraid to ask nicely.

I had a point to this rant... but like all rants, you just kind of peter out at the end. Nothing to see here, folks.

(Oh, right. Point: Powerlevels suck.)

I feel the same way as you Alauce. Being a rdm, I get tons of tells on a weekly basis from people asking me if I will pl their pt for gil. Pfft. Hence the reason I am always /anon. ack!

LEARN YOUR JOB FOLKS!!! You don't need a pl to get "great" exp. You just have to know how to put a party together.

This is why we see so many people who don't know how to do their jobs right. When you have a pl, you become lazy in your pt. whm doesn't heal, war doesn't provoke.... yadda yadda yadda.

If you don't know how to do your job, it will be harder for you to do anything in the game later on when you reach the higher levels.

People complain also that lvl'n a job through 1-10 sucks. I look at it as a great money making opportunity and I could always use more seals. If you have to have a pl for those lvls so be it, but once you reach lvl 10 and are ready for the dunes, don't drag the pl with you.

I enjoy the hard work in gaining my lvls without a pl. Gives me some kind of satisfaction. I will not be bowing, kneeling, and sending a barrage of thank you's in tells to the pl, because they aren't doing anything more than ruining those people that don't know how to do their jobs yet.

Edited: Guess I had a little more to rant about. hehehe

I'm in the same boat. And doubly so since I hate going anon. I don't really have any good reason for it, it's just a preference of mine. So I get assaulted with lots of PL requests. Generally I just give the generic (|I'm sorry, I'm busy right now|) response, but if they press the matter I just ignore them. Personally I think it's amusing to watch people plead. >_> I'm evil like that.

I dunno it's just commonplace now. It's incredibly rare to get a Dunes party without a PL. I guess at this stage in the game there's very few newbies, but, I dunno I really don't think anyone is such a master of their job at level 15 that they can have a friend come and help them the whole way.

I have to add though I'm just as much a Valkurm hater as everyone else but c'mon...even Crawler Nest parties have PLs now. -_-

I have had the displeasure of taking a couple jobs through the dunes again and when, I as back-up voke for the NIN tank, am told not to voke, because we have a PL... O.o ...well I don't like being told NOT to do my job.

It's worse than being told HOW to do my job.

I'll have to agree with the op. I have been leveling a mule lately, and I'm rarely in a pt without a PL. Granted, I already know my job but what about the other players...If they are noobs, noobs they will stay. Kinda sad eh?

When I play my main char, 71blm or 68 whm, I too am barraged with tells for PL's. I almost always refuse. The exception I will make, is when a friend wants to level a sub and needs help getting to level 10 so he can party. That can be a pain, as I know only too well...and I'm glad to help out in those cases.

For the most part i don't care about getting pled one way or the other. If the party feels the need to have one and has one there, so be it. Whatever gets me out of the dunes faster.

HOWEVER, people getting pled in Crawler's Nest, Garlaige Citadel, or even places like Qufim, that is where i draw the line.

I agree with the OP.

Powerleveling is just far too common now, and it seems like it's a trend that's not gonna quit anytime soon unfortunelately.

Those levels 10-20 are imperative to learn how to do your job, (ESPECIALLY as a WHM) and far too many people are just fine and dandy taking the easy road to 20 or even 25. *shudder*

Honestly, how long does it take for a person to get to 20? A couple days? A few tops? It's not necessary to be powerleveled. In fact, it's just hurting people because they aren't learning how to deal with important things like links or their job in general.

Example: A party in Valk, and there are 2 gobbies coming to camp, due to a link.

Puller - "Oh crap! I got a link!"

Leader- "Oh it's okay, just let the powerlevel take it, we can just let the WHM heal this fight."

OK. Now where do you learn by experience in that case? This is just an example of how people are slacking in learning their roles.

I hate powerleveling, sure it's easy fast exp. But on the same hand, it's also boring because there is no excitement and people aren't learning anything!

Even more so, people are powerleveling in Qufim and even THE JUNGLES. Ok. That's where I draw the line.

Rate up to the OP, this is an issue that definately needs to be addressed.

If someone is pling you, it is better for the pty if you don't voke off the pl. If you don't like that, why not just leave the pty over complaining. You don't leave the pty, becuase you want pl. Every pty in the dunes isn't pled not even half of them are.

All pl does is lets people constantly pull. It just makes it more fun for them. It is pretty much the same for every job but the whm and tank.

Everyone gets asked to pl. I was asked when on my ninja to pl when they didn't know I had other jobs.

I find people you don't know asking for gil more annoying then people you don't know asking for pl.

More fun? You're kidding right? You seriously have more fun when you're getting a free ride than when you're actually in a good pt that can hold their own?

Powerlevels are a huge waste of time imo. Instead of getting a PL so you can constantly pull try getting a decent party. I've been on a fair number of dunes parties that didn't have much down time. They were fun because we were a good party doing a good job.

As far as it being just the same for everyone but the whm and tank, not the case. First off, all mages are affected. The Dunes is every mage's first shot at backup healing (assuming they have a sub, if they don't then they really need to learn the job and don't need a pl). Also, if you have newer DDs in their party then they may grow too accustomed to chasing the mob around. Powerlevels upset the hate balance, which is going to ***** up thieves learning how to set up a SA(TA if still getting pl's in the jungle).

Anyway, PL if you wanna, do your thing, but don't expect me to hang around after you make the party no fun for me. Don't beg me for a pl (ack!!!) and don't be offended when i say no to "wanna pt, got pl?" I'm pretty sure that's what this thread was about.

I liked being PL. I was a noob and thought the idea of not dying in the dunes and having to wait to get raised by a good samaritin. I also agree that people don't learn their jobs if they are PL'd too much. I had an occasional PL from a poster on this vary thread. She is one of my best friends on the game. I don't want to mention her nams CoughTracyloucough, But I will say by her sacrifice to pl alot of us, she kept herself down while other players lvled away without her. Another thing about my panty throwing friend, She is the best healer I have partied with and she is a RDM. No direspect to any WHM I have or have not partied with.

Hola DB you silly ****! *huggleslongtime*

I "used" to pl your a$$ until Honeybuns showed me the error of my ways. I made a little hut in the dunes, and stayed there for weeks. Thank you HB for getting me out of the damn dunes. {/bow}

It was and still is the constant tells of... will you pl me PLEASE, that drives me crazy. People think they can't live without a pl. That kind of mentality will not get them far in the game, but I already made my rant on that. Soooooo.... *pulls the Strifer string* STFU =)

I use to see tracy pling in the dunes alot. We even pled a pty together once.

People don't want decent ptys they want really good ones. If you have a high DD pty in the dunes with pl you can get chain 6-7+. A good pty without pl would have trouble getting chain 5 without 2 really good blink tanks.

In all the times I've pled I had 1 person leave becuase they didn't like pl, and I've pled more then anyone. I pled 3/4 jobs 1-37 for a friend, that friend knew this game better then anyone. If you don't like pl then don't join a pled pty, but the truth is people that complain about others being pled are just jealous.

No, I don't get pled. I don't like to level a lot of jobs, so I have nothing to have pled. When I do level a low level job it is just to play with friends, so I don't care about exp.

I wouldn't mind getting pl'd to 10 and then set free in the dunes to live or die. But when I die, ima sending tracylou a tell to get her *** out there and raise my ***.LOL

Oh yeah, DRG sucks. Cheers, Xano. Almost forgot.

Grimson: I hate powerlevels. And I hate being powerlevelled. I've left tonnes upon tonnes of parties in my gaming experience, for the simple fact that I really do hate being powerlevelled. It has nothing to do with jealousy.

Now, to be serious...lol

I was down in Kazham on my PLD with Chibi, Noxx and Theo and some guy we didn't know was hanging around tossing cures on us. We asked him again and again to knock it off because 1.) I don't like PL on my PLD and 2.) it was adding to the lag.

The guy turned around and threatened to train on us. Now, seriously, wtf is THAT all about?
