It's hard to say if it's worth it to you because I don't really know what you value in a video game. If you have been gone since 2007, you will come back to a very different game. I just came back in Nov after being away for 4 years and things are very different. I had just gotten my first 75 a couple of months before I quit and hadn't gotten much in the way of the Zilart or Promy storylines done. Fast forward to recently, I have taken several jobs to 50, WHM and WAR to 99, THF to 78. I'm not hardcore so if you have more time, you can take multiple jobs to 99 pretty quickly, though you will be a bit behind on skill ups.

The game is different. It's fun to me, and you don't have to have a specialized LS to get to do some of the things you used have to. You will want to find an LS as it will help you get up to speed on everything, but a lot of things are done through shout groups in Lower Jeuno. All I can suggest is come back and try it out if you have the means.

ditto!

Came back about two months ago and I'm having fun plus met several very friendly players. As Dafrabe says, pick-up groups from Jeuno work quite well. They can take some time (up to 30 minutes to build the alliance) but everything is much more dynamic (in my view) than it used to be.

Plus of course, everything is comparatively easier. I'd agree that it removes some of the challenge, but it also enables players like me who can only play a few hours per day at most to access what used to be more exclusive content.

See you

It is alot more fun. You would pretty much be running stright to abyssea to earn gear and items. Much more time friendly if you only have an hour or two to play a day and you actually can acomplish goals. There is good gear now that you earn and dont have to sink 45 hours in just to get one piece. You may have alot of jobs to get 75 but at an averg of 150k+ an hour of exp, that shouldnt be much of a problem.

Hey Gang,

Thanks for the replys back to my previous question. As from what i am gathering from everybody that alot of everything has change since 2007. I still keep an old photo of my very first LS to reminde me of the good times i had while playing FFXI, encase if i ever had to leave and if i ever wanted to come back i just had to look at the picture and bam good times remember.

Things i value in a game, Respect, honor, helpfulness, fun, and memoriable good times I like to earn my own stuff and help people get what they want and hope people will help me get stuff what i want. Last i Knew HNM runs where a great way to get gear and money.

My next question is how long does it take ussualy to get XP groups, when i was around it took anywhere for 30 mins to 4hrs as a healer. Did things change while i was away?

I see that lvling up is way diffrent from what i remember it, last i knew cap lv was lv 75 then you had to go fight maat for the final test of the class. so the question is can you guys please explaine the lvling system more please so i can better understand it.

You guys also menchen that gear is alot better to come by these days i remember farming for my O.kotes it took me weeks to get one to drop, and then not factoring the times i loss the mob too gil farmers. Could you explain the new equipment system please.

you also are saying that i dont need a specific LS to join in on exclusive content that woud be very cool, i remember when was active, you could of been in a LS foucs on lvling and a LS focusing on Dynamis runs. I would like to know more about this if possable.

But over all i am still thinking on a positive side of coming back, most likely won have my taru anymore because of time durration and inactivity when i canceled my account. it was a sad day when i canceld my account Once again thank you for reading this, you the players and community feed back will greatly infulence my final descion. Once again THANK YOU

Leveling:

Still largely done by killing a mob over and over, but instead of 150-200xp ker kill on an IT+, you get an increasing amount of exp the more you kill a mob. In Zilart zones, that means Grounds of Valor books where completing a set number of kills on set mobs earns you increasing exp bonuses. In Abyssea, you start out by getting a tiny amount of exp per kill ramping up to 600+ per kill. And it takes about 15 sec or so to kill a mob. 150k EXP per hour is quite possible.

For GoV (Grounds of Valor) groups, it can take some time if others aren't leveling but if there are others in the zone, the it takes no time. You can be in an alliance and get a ton of exp killing EP mobs so if there is a group going, you should have to wait long. In Abyssea, there is ALWAYS an alliance leveling so you shouldn't have to wait long for that either, you just have to find them (usually in La Thiene Plateau [A]).

I could take a long time to explain the mechanics of leveling now, but once you get in a party it will all make sense quickly. Basically, you don't care about the per kill exp in GoV, you care about the page experience. (If you want to understand how GoV leveling works, look at my explanation here.) In Abyssea, you might not get exp per kill at first but as more and more kills happen, you will get more and more exp. Again, get in a party, start killing and after a bit you will understand the mechanics. The good thing about WHM is you can contribute to an Abyssea party very early (70's) so since you are 75 WHM, just go there first. Most groups are always looking for healing magic.

Gear:
You buy pretty good gear from different parts of Abyssea. Some use cruor, some Dominion Ops points, some drop (I think all feet drop). So you want to look at the job you want to gear and look for the Empyrean set it uses, for instance your 75 WHM would use the Orison set which can be upgraded to a +1 and then a +2 version. There is better gear that drops from Voidwatch but I have yet to participate in that so someone will have to tell you more about it.

I hope this was helpful to you.

Hey Gang,

roughly whats an estimate for waiting for xp groups, i see theres more than one way of getting XP now so im guessing wait times are going to be less?

what about signets? who largely controls vana? or is this now obsolete? i can recall a time where sandy controlled e.sarutbaruta which was crazy and on heard of.

i see crafting got updated, i should check that out more.

could you specified on the LS part, you guys said you dont need to be part of of any specific LS to do stuff, so is the game now where everyone can do any of the content? this is still kinda iffy to me.

did they change the limit breaker for your character lvling past 50? and chocobo licence is that still a 6 hr event?

i did read your attached link. Thank you for linking that, i see its now possable to solo in this very awesom game, and i would have to give that a try, i remember sitting in jueno for 30mins to 4hrs as a healer at 75 waiting for skill up parties.

If i have any more question ill post em here you guys been very most helpful i do appreciate the time you read this and helping me out with my questions. Always did like the FF community whre we all help everyone out best as possable, i used to be a mentor in FFXI, as my final question for now, is that mentor program still going?

Exp waiting times vary. Due to the fact that some of the most popular leveling spots have Level Sync caps, your best bet is to go to the dungeon in question, flag up, and see if the alliance has a slot. If it does, you'll probably be invited right away. If it doesn't, they may say "Our party's full" and just ask you to wait for someone to need to leave. I've found the half life of an alliance to be about one hard, so chances are good someone will have to go in the next 10-15 minutes, at which point you can just pick right up.

At Abyssea levels (75+) it's not a matter of flagging up and waiting so much as it is hanging out in Jeuno and waiting for someone to shout for an alliance, either individual slots or one starting from scratch.

Catwho covered that one.

I've not seen starter zones controlled by another nation yet but it still matters in that OP warp prices are based on who controls the zone.

It's relative. You still have to gain assess to certain areas by missions and quests but the content is doable by smaller groups now.

There are still limit breaks but they are mostly about turning in Kindred Crests or High Kindred Crests. All that info is here.

I still see people who have a mentor icon but I've never once asked any of them anything so I don't know if it's still useful. They should be easy to find if you need one but most folks who are playing the game now are friendly enough to answer a few questions.

Hey Gang,

How is everyone tonight?
Quick question maybe you guys will know the answer before SE replys back to my email. If i buy the ultimate eddition of FFXI, and i sitll have my old FFXI CD for my xbox 360 will i be able to still transfer my stuff from pc to xbox. I did unlink my old account to my gamertag that did do and still remeber. Just woundering.

Thanks

I can't answer the gamertag part, but you only need the four hard disk expansions on Xbox 360 to be able to access all of the Abyssea ultimate collection content. So as long as your copy for Xbox has the base game and RotZ, the separate CoP disk, the separate ToAU disk, and the separate WotG disk, you can apply a PC Abyssea ultimate collection key code to the account and it'll download the missing stuff automatically.

Seraph was merged into Bismarck a while ago, so the population is healthy enough. For starting from scratch, I personally think Sandy has the best positioned NPCs overall, but that's totally a selfish opinion of mine. Most of the early heavy lifting leveling these days is done in Gusgen Mines, so Bastok might be the safest starting bet initially just because it's closest.

I did a /sea all on Saturday night about 11PM-12AM CDT and there were 2200 people on. I was a bit surprised by that. It's usually about 1600.
