Cerberus,

most of yous know me, most of yous dont,
i started this game with my heart set on lvling up DRK to 75 and be one of the greatest DRK our server ever seen, and follow in the footsteps, like Saberwulf and Thrillagorilla (sp?)

But now, i'm stuck @ lvl 62, with 5k tnl.
to kill time, i've lvled up THF BST NIN and SMN and had alil fun with WHM. but now it seems it hopeless for me to keep goin, i SP with my gf (Bard) and WHM friend in the LS, but they always got plans and helping out other peeps and new players.

I've planned on quiting back in Dec,but things started lookin up again, i got a good drop, Archers Ring, which i got Absorb-Dex with the money, and a good friend of mine got me a Venerer Ring and Assault earring. (Thank you, you know who you are) =)
now it's early July and lately i've been lvling up BST cuz i'm tired of dealin with PTs that rant and rave about how good they are or tell other peeps how to do thier jobs.

I'm broke, Sole Sushi is hella expensive, i dont have a Haubergeon, i wanted to lvl up to 65 so bad to Join HigherPower, but they broke up, so i can make some gil and buy some good gear. ( no i'm not askin for gil or for you to feel sorry for me) =P

And now i dont see any point in going on, 4 hrs today lfp, and nothing!

HNMLS <yes Please> LvL 65 <can i have it?>

Anyways, i guess i'll take this time to thank everyone who helped me with all the quests and missions and for the laughs.

If i've been and @$$hole to you, I'm very sorry, please accept my apology.
/bow

If anyone can come up with any reason why i shouldnt quit b4 the end of the summer, please, post here, give me alil hope.

Thank you
Acidx

Acidx,
sounds to me like you are quiting out of frustration not because you no longer like playing. My personal opinion... stick with it. Build parties, widen your gil earning recources. You've leveld thf some, now use it. Become a damn good NM camper. If that doesn't float your boat read up on as much info as you can on gardening. Apply a certain % of gil earned to lvlng a craft. You work hard and it will come easier. Thats just my opinion. Get aggressive, 75 will come. ^^

I've been beyond crafting and fishing and NM camping, dam @$$ gil sellers.

Thanks for the boost, but it does have to do with the game. Not having fun with it while lookin for PT, and when i do build one, there's alway no tank or healer, and everyone leaves.

Thank you Cevan
i appriecate your opinion ^_^

A lot of people think HNM LS is something awesome and lead to riches beyond imagination.... I think this is a misconception. You can play the game for fun and well off enough to not to do HNMs if you do BCNMs and crafting.

HNM LS is not for everyone. It is competitive, and very business like, and occasionally have a lot of drama. Make sure you think carefully what you want in the game before saying i want a HNM LS.

FFXI, in the end, is a society game. A lot of people just want to do end game stuff -- there are a lot more than end game you can explore. Open your eyes, and try those.

uh, maybe u didnt noticed, u gotta be a high dam lvl to do most end game stuff or wonder off yourself or with a high lvl PT to do other things too.

FFXI is drama, no matter where you go, what ur into.

As for me, i like being competive, it keeps me goin.

yea, anyways, i asked for reason NOT TO QUIT, not reason TO QUIT!

plus, didnt you quit or sumthing? if so, please, dont post here if your no longer in the game. thank you.

That is not exactly true, some people play FFXI just for fun and relax from an intense family or career life.

Different people play the game for different objectives. And I think it is important to consider carefully what you really want from the game before running into something that you do not want to.

If you do not know me, despite what my job levels might indicate, I am not in any HNM LS. I only do sky once a while, and that do not make me rich, l33t or whatever. I may have quited for now, but I had fun in the game helping others, leveling, and chatting with people.

I am not here to disencourage people not to try HNM, it is nice to try it, but I also encourage people to try everything else -- something I find a lot of high levels are unable to do now.

dude, FFXI is sanity pill, without, i'd go crazy

my gf lives like 2-3 hr away from me, and until 2006 comes, i dont get to see her alot, and this game is the ONLY interactive thing we do together to have fun. and Socom2 also

Then if this is your sanity pill seriously buck up. Sometimes yes it does take me several hours to build a party, and I have unlimited resources of blms that I can give a /tell to no matter what job they are at the time and get a blm party together, so don't get frustrated when it takes some time to build. As for earning gil, ya it sux, but you have to get better than them (RMT). LL Gorese is our resident RMT and she sux, doesnt take much to become better than her. VE the threesome has moved on, i've seen them camping others. Try ore gardening, plenty of info about it on the internet, and that has been my main money maker. But... either way i'm not sure why i'm trying to convince you... Do it or don't... It's really up to how hard you want to push yourself.

Hope it starts picking up again. :)

I agree with the gardening/mining/harvesting suggestions... all can be done during game downtime... and if your /thf is like mine (gimped), you dont have to run around subbing thf while lfg.

i always tell people when they wanna quit that they shouldnt give up, just keep on getting on, make yourself get up and make your on parties. i finnaly got my DRK to 75 recently, and yes, its very hard for drk's to get parties after a certain level because basicly, they are only DD, nothing great rele and no huge skillchains.i had it rele tough because i refuse to use the Sythe, refuse. but you have to do as i do, just keep on going, and this game isnt all about money and levels and gtting into that LS you have been wanting to get into for so long, its about having fun and living out your final fantasy away from the real life and the sucky world of internet bills and bad coffee.I personally never wanted to get into a LS, i made my on, and ive been leader of a great LS for 3 years now, since i was a 30 warrior. i started a LS at level 30 and its still going on. If a newb could do it, then certainly you can do it. I say start one and trust me, you will be busy for the rest of your Final fantasy career...
o yeah, about money.
as soon as i got alchemy to 100 mone was never a problem. guild till you get the money you want and it will come.dont quit, just keep on going and push yourself. this game is a little more than a game, it means getting up top and inspiring those younger players to do the same.

i don't know you, well, from what you said and what you have said in the past in alla and stuff. i think you need to step back and look at the game in a different view.

agreeing with amanada, hnmls isn't for everyone. You don't hafta be a high lvl to enjoy this game. I don't know about other's experiences, but hnmls never made me rich. i'm still poor as hell. Yea, you can get "leet" items. But i think it is at a cost...There's so much things going on in hnmls, you're gonna be busy with the stuff a lot. you and your friends are gonna drift apart. I don't know if you'd like hnm events to be honest. i once comment on fighting kirin = throwing bodys at it. its kina suicidal. rewarding and fun at the end. but you die a lot and you might hafta suck a R1, well you don't hafta, but its gonna be troublesome if everyone demands a R3. so you'll be losing loadza exp in one night. dlvling, and go back to what you hate, lfp. hnmls, you expect drama, competition, and a lotta negative things. After being in one, i don't think its worth it. not what it costed me.. (long story, not gonna mention it.) not saying it will happen to you, but it may.

lfp is not at all that bad. you might say "BS, your a whm main, brd right now, of course you get pts easily" yea i do. but then, i have had times where i lfped for 3hrs+. i dont' just stand there in jeuno, you can find something to do, like go and farm, crafting, mess about, explore~ it'll only be a hard time if you make it be

so mayb you should try stepping back and look at your initial thoughts of why you played this game? did you really started with "i play this game because i want a hnmls, i play this game because i want to be a leet drk" well you probably didn't , did you? you bought it for enjoyment and for the fun?

There are many ways to have fun in this game apart from lvling dark and joining hnmls imo. i think people have been so one minded on what to do they missed out a lotta things that is provided for us. like, Garrison, i've never seen people do garrison... do the missions, SE made these story lines for a reason, go ahead and find out what happens in your home country. COP missions, they are tough, but i've meet good friends from it and the team work and effort we put in, every mission were enjoyable. or even just spend some time wiht your friends, mess about in jeuno. Me and a friend of mine have rabbit Vs Mandy race in jeuno when we get bored (i always win, haha) stupid stuff like that gives you a good laugh. help a random noob out wiht their AF. A little appreciation to your help in the end makes you happy. well, at least it makes me happy when i do it.
recently i've jst been camping in windy, just crafting with my boyfriend. enjoyed every moment of it. so FF isn't just about drama. even just go out and explore~ have you been to other side of bibki bay? you know what i mean by now i think. lol

yes, there are noobs and elitist around. but the majority are nice people. good players. you might not have met them around for a while. but you can't neglect that. having thought of "why bother lfp? its just gonna suck" is exactly the attitude that brings you bad pts... most PT can work if you work together. Party is team work....

whether you quit or not is entirely up to you. i'm just a random stranger that said a lotta stuff lol. sorry for long post.Yea there'll be hard times in FF, but its up to you how you treat it.

Well the question is, what is your passion? I've been playing for longer than you have and actually took a 6 month break from the game, only to come back recently and enjoy it more than ever. I love the sense of community this game has and that's only amplified by the great group of friends in my LS.

The other reason I love it is the economy. Not the fact it is inflating rapidly, but the fact that I work it much like a broker does in real life. It's exciting to get an item for vastly less than the retail from a Non-Jueno AH, only to sell it for 50% net in Jueno.

I also enjoy helping people complete quests and make things easier on people when they were so difficult for me to accomplish. I don't feel that anyone should have to struggle as much as I did to get things accomplished because I was in a selfish LS for half of me career. Being able to help a friend do something in 15 minutes at my level when it would take hours at theirs makes me feel like I've actaully done something, rather than just EXP'ing for myself. I mean what is EXP if you can't spend it on your friends.

I could probably come up with a few more, but the fact is sometimes you just need to step back and take a break to really get a perspective on why you play. Who knows, maybe you won't decide to comeback, but that's a decision only you can make. I don't expect my reasons to be yours, you have to find those on your own. If you decide to quit, I'm sorry to see you go, and I hope that all your future endeavors go well.

I'm posting in mere support of what's already been said here. If this game was about being in a HNMLS or being level 65 to you, and because of that you're ready to quit...then maybe you should.

I quit once (long story I won't go into) but I quit for all the wrong reasons. I told myself I was burnt out from the game and that playing a game I was burnt out on was a waste of time, but I was lying to myself; that wasn't the reason. It wasn't gilsellers, MPKers, or downright dumb people that convinced me to quit; it was the fact that everything I wanted to do just too so much damn time. Everything I wanted to do in the game took too much of my time. A mission was usually 2+ hours, a decent party lasted at least 3+ hours, getting decent drops from farming 1 1/2+ hours.

Funny thing is, I still came back, and yes, I'm addicted to FFXI. Though its only one of many reasons why I'm back.

Friends in the game. They mean a lot to me now. Some I have known since the early days of my warrior.

Challenges and Accomplishments. Believe it or not, when SE sets a challenge up for me, and me and some other people beat that challenge, I usually consider that fun. Even when I aim for a goal and miss it, I have fun. Not too long ago I tried doing a BCNM 50 with me PLD, a RDM, and a DRG. Some dumb raptors we were suppose to kill. We got owned 3 TIMES. But guess what, I still had fun.

I've been playing this game about as long as you, maybe a little less, but close enough anyways. I'm a PLD, and as you can tell by my Sig, I'm only level 56. Now ask anyone that I know from my linkshell, or a friend, hell ask someone I partied with sometime ago in the past. I have been in the 50's forEVER. I'm officially the slowest leveler I know. Why? Though I like leveling, it is like a second-rate thing in this game to me. I have more fun doing the quests/missions/helping peoples thing/BCNMs/just doing stuff with friends thing.

I guess after all the bullcrap I said, you could've just went right here to see what I think I'm trying to say; I think I'm trying to say TWO things here.

1.) Try to do things more on your time, and more in your own way. Don't worry about the others looking in on you.

2.) Try to stop looking at this game as if everything is statistics and numbers. Look at this game as I believe it was meant to be. Look at this game like an adventure with friends.

I believe if you tried those two things you'll find this game is much more fun. Everything else just seems to fall into place after that. Though I'm probably still missing something I should've said, and probably said something that doesn't make sense now.

I TYPE TOO MUCH.

I think the most important thing is to play the game you want and have fun. Do not let other determine what is fun for you -- a lot of people want to do end for this reason. They read on forums -- people showing off killing Kirin, Tiamat, or Nidhogg is something l33t. It may be in the beginning, but it is not really true. Doing HNM is very business and actually extremely repeative -- Kirin fight is like the most boring thing you will ever do.... a lot of running around etc.

I know someone, started before me, and did not even clear Genkai I. And I know people with multiple level 75 jobs fight Gods etc. Both are having fun. The best approach is to try everything, and not just focus on 1 aspect of the game -- the so called "endgame". Be open minded and try everything (something you should do in RL too!).

100% agree. I may be seeing this as a "non-American", but I find American a little more number and performance driven, which leads to why point 2 is raised. Do not let that get to you. In game or in RL, it is your life is what really matters, not your batting average, nor your great axe skill.

ENM actually a good way to make money, and a lot of people should try it. As I said, try everything. SE has made a lot of game content. Which game content you want to try is up to you. Do not let others to determine which content to play.

It is better to discover what you want yourself than have others determine that for you. You may read on boards about people being l33t killing Gods or wearing a shiny Noble Tunic. Or you may watch TV to see TV stars glorifying certain aspects of western culture or just even late-Dave Thomas showing off how his burger tastes good... They are doing that for a reason.

The foundation of the Age of Reason (which lays the foundation to American Revolution, and other large political and social changes in Europe and Asia in 19th and early 20the Century) is critical thinking. Collect the information and interpret the information by oneself. Do not let other tell you how to intrepret the information. If you are allowing others to tell you what to think, you fall yourself into the dictatorship of other's attempt to control you... They want to control you for their own interest (ranging from control of freedom, make money for themselves, or simply boast their own ego).

I hit this same barrier when i started to get 50+ and I too nearly quit. This is so common with DRK, MNK, DRG + WAR.

Basically the lfg time can start to extend into days and this wears people out. You feel unwanted/useless, to put it simply. A bard forming a party won't even read your "invite flag comments" to see what gear you have. Unless they are desperate for a 6th, your only hope is that a Rng may request you for a skillchain partner.

The "just make your own party" option usually only works if you have a wider range of hours to play this game. For employed people who can get in most of their XP on saturday afternoon, your options for building a party include: 3PLD, 2DRK, 2DRG and over the next 2 hours you can find a mage if you catch them fast enough.

Some days you will get a decent balance, but often it ends up being a "shortbus party" without a good skillchain, low XP, and a huge turnover rate (people will be leaving every 45 min like they did back in valk). Party morale is low, and if you are depressed already about your current situation a gimped party can be more harmful then another day of LFG.

Most players overcome this by giving up on the DD they really wanted to play, and simply switch to the path of least resistance. Start a ranger and buy $20 of gil and they can level at will. Or they just quit.

Sorry for mixing the "rng nerf" issue into this, but this is the prime example of how the current game balance can hurt people. It's not the exodus of melee switching to rng that screws things up... its the support jobs that can hitch on for a free ride to the top alongside the rangers that is really hurting. I won't use the term spoiled, but some simply wont XP at all unless its a proven 5K+ formation.

Sorry if this is extremely negative, so by all means rate me down. I am just getting worn down by the "woe is me" ranger talk about their impending hardship. Walk a mile in Acidx's shoes to see what hardship is like. Or take a monk from 50-60 (there is a lot of "group therapy" in the monk forum for overcoming that well documented lvl range of hell. When your job forum is dedicated to fighting depression, you know something is wrong ^^)

And Acid, best support I can give is for you to endure. 70+ DRK are impressive in dynamis and devestating in XP parties. On some HNM fights you may be forced into a more limited role, but really this is only for a few hours a week. You dont fight kirin every single day in an HNM shell... lol. Overall melee seem to get newfound respect in the 70s, so there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Thornn, I can see what you say. The reason why that happens is preconception of leveling fast, get to end game fast, and Rangers are gods and special.

That is why there is a change to Rangers and Ninjas. It is to restore game balance. People abuse eltism of Rangers, and therefore people cannot play the jobs they want because of frustration.

FYI, I truely believe DRK is a good attacker. Heheheh You got to see the numbers like Snowden, Iingaate, Marzipan can put on the table ;p. But because people adverties DRK sucks (for their own interest or boast their ego) that leads to a current situation... And that is why SE consistenly change game balance issues.

Think bright and positive, being overly negative does not help.

About time to build a PT:
I am willing to spend 30-60 min to make a PT I like and go exp for only 1.5-2 hours (with no one leaving for replacements). It is for that reason I absoultely hate replacements. It wastes so play time.

I agree wholeheartedly. Excellent reason to try everything the game has to offer. Sometimes trying something new is more fun with a fellow player (ie a hand to hold) than to dive in alone. That very fact may be what holds back some players from experimenting.

Myself, I am always up for a new adventure, and would love company while exploring. But only if they go in with an open mind and a fun attitude. Some people tend to forget that it is not real money and not real life. You don't actually go broke and die.

Get out there and have fun with the game. That's what games are for :)

Hahah Lots of people always tell me,

"Amanada, you must have done everything."

I will confess, I never done Ballista or went to the new Ballisita area. Nor I have ever done Garrison. Nor I am rank 10 to any nation -- I am not too interested in rank missions anyway.

I have never seen Fafnir nor Nidhogg nor Adamatoise (Genbu kind of like that, but not exactly the same ;p). Nor I have {Sea} (I am close, but not there).

There are so much game contents out there, and people should try them.
