As many of you know, I'm relocating, and I was looking at options for my phone/internet connection. I can't decide if the expense of $20/month for a phone line plus another $11 or so for internet plus long-distance phone charges. I can't find cheap cable or satellite internet, although the total cost might be cheaper since I will be making lots of calls and then maybe I can do it through Vonage or something. Anyone have a sooper-secret setup that you can edjumacate me about? I don't play games or anything, would pretty much need to download the occasional tune, google, and post.

Nope. There's deals with AT&T/Yahoo for DSL (see my thread a whiles back) but cable was silly expensive and satellite always gets iffy reviews from people, at best.

My cable phone is just nifty. Nadenu just got one also so you could ask her details on US carriers.

I pay one flat fee of of 45$ a month and I get

-unlimited long distance calling anytime anywhere in Canada/US/Mexico. No hitches no catches nothing. The same as making a local call.

-voice mail
-caller id
-call waiting
-call forwarding

and probably more stuff than I know.

Since it is through the same company i have cable internet with I get a discount via bundle packages. So overall Cable TV, Cable Phone, Cable Internet costs me about 100$ Canadian a month.

Edit - Only downside of cable phone is that it wont work during a power outage like a regular phone. However my one came with a back up 3 hour supply thing a ma jig.

Technically 141 but Germany is on the Euro now so it's 72 Euros to the $100 Canadian.

I know, but still...

You should play games then you can justify the $100+/month for super-duper communicating technostrands.

Cable phone is a good deal, especially if you do much continental long-distance calling. But you'll need a cable hook-up so then you may as well go cable internet.

As Elinda stated cable phones tend to pay for themselves the more time you spend on long distance.

I just noticed that I get 1,000 free minutes per month of international calling. F'uck chatting over Yahoo I can cyber with Dracoid over the phone.

Peru is 10 cents a minute, do you have any hawt cousins there that are looking for a marriage of convenience?

Nope, we don't even have green money (save for $20s).

I also get premium access to 911. If I call my address and information pops up so we can skip the idle chit chat.

Yeah, but they'd want you to be on bottom.

Any way I look at it, it just looks like a $50-60 or more expense where before it was $30 that I split with my sister. Ah, dirt.

Remember AF I am in Canada we use monopoly money. 45$ (with tax) here is about 35-40$ USD.
