Despite his bid for pres being a very long, long shot, what about this democratic socialism stuff?
This is Wiki's attempt at defining it....
Quote:
Democratic socialism is a political ideology advocating a democratic political system alongside a socialist economic system. This may refer to extending principles of democracy in the economy (such as through cooperatives or workplace democracy), or may simply refer to trends of socialism that emphasise democratic principles as inalienable from their political project.
There is no exact definition of democratic socialism. Some forms of democratic socialism overlap with social democracy, while other forms reject social democratic reformism in favor of more revolutionary methods, and overlap with Revolutionary Socialism.

A bit more ambiguous clarification...

Sanders is the only member of Congress who calls himself a Socialist. And if you're wondering how a Democratic Socialist differs from a Democrat, he'll point to the time he took to the Senate floor for eight and a half hours in 2010, railing against President Obama for supporting Bush-era tax cuts.
Bernie Sanders explanation, "It is essentially — bottom line — making government work for all of the people,"
This is a pretty wimpy definition, but for Sanders it seems to be about economic equality and representation of his constituency.
What do you think about Democratic Socialism?
Is it a counter to Tea-Partyism?
...and Sanders, can he make a respectable bid for president?
