This one is fairly simple:

1) Fan gets spotted at world cup game.

2) Fan gets modeling contract and makes video.

3) Someone finds picture fan posted with dead animal hunting trophy.

4) Company cancels fan's modeling contract.

Theodore Roosevelt, Melonman, and Adios Spana would all be more interesting commercial fodder than her.

I voted bikini because it's the closest to "meh" of the options.

I don't see a problem with L'Oreal terminating a contract over an image that could hurt their brand by association. Doesn't seem anything other than logical really.

I voted "got what she deserved" not so much on the "she deserves bad" angle but rather L'Oreal is gonna do what gives them the best publicity and if her past has made her a liability to the company than off she goes. So I guess it's less "she's a terrible person" and more "Can't fault L'Oreal for showing her the door".

I'm sure they'll find another pretty blonde somewhere in Northern Europe to take her place. [Well, northish-central Europe? Somewhere in the blonde hair/blue eyes gene pool anyway]

The conservative butthurt in that Twitter feed is sort of amusing.

I didn't notice that Model Girl said she was ready to "hunt Americans". I assume everyone's more worked up about the antelope though. Did we play Belgium in the World cup or something for "hunt Americans" to make sense in some sort of context?

Looks like a combination of conservative and liberal butthurt to me.

I only really see conservative complaints. Person sends picture to L'Oreal. A couple "Yeahs!" and then a stream of "You're just jealous and trying to take her down because she's prettier than you", "Cyberbully!", "Fame *****" and culminating in "Liberals only like to kill babies".

And someone who keeps trying the line "strong, independent woman" out for traction. I guess it's only time before we learn that this is the REAL "War on Women!" Smiley: laugh

Yeah the liberal seems to be mostly 'yay good for you modeling company not standing for this!' I'd imagine the butthurt was probably worse prior to the canceled contract perhaps?

Liberal gloating. Smiley: nod

The conservative complaints are louder and sillier, for certain. Just saying they're not alone.

Yeah, I'll go with spg's "liberal gloating and conservative butthurt" to describe the overall tone.

I may have the wrong company in mind, but I seem to recall that L'Oreal made a big deal a few years ago about no longer testing on animals. I can see where they might want to protect their cruelty-free marketing story if that's true.

I was only referring to the linked tweet. There could very well be a bunch of other tweets out there with a counter perspective.

I imagine if she had been pictured next to a deer with the caption of "Food for my whole family for the next six months!" this would not have blown up like it did. It's a good bet that hunting was done on a game preserve, the kind set up for rich white people to shoot things to feel superior about themselves.

So a make-up company fired a model for killing animals? I'm getting that correct, yes? Guess she should have just run tests on them.

I see this was already addressed, but i don't care because quite frankly, I'm too lazy to read the entire thread. It's Friday!

Except that L'Oreal apparently makes a big deal about not testing on animals?

Clearly not a big enough deal. I, and others in this thread, didn't know that. Failed marketing if you ask me.

She should hunt Native Americans from oryx-back.

I was going to find a picture of someone riding an antelope but the second Google Images return for "antelope rider" was a crude line drawing two antelope fucking a... puma? Anyway, I kind of just want to go back to bed now.
