So all we need is some super secret serum that the defense dept. is funding it seems. Or is this too little too late to stop the zombies?

I'd volunteer for a Super Soldier Serum. I mean, worst case scenario I become patient zero for the zombie apocalypse and I'm pretty okay with that, too.

I listened to Rush today for part of my 9 hour drive. A caller called in, made sure to say that she wasn't a conspiracy theorist and anything like that, and was going all conspiracy on the doctors and people down there helping who have become infected. "How did they get infected if this isn't airborne and everyone is wearing full hazmat suits? Why isn't the media asking these questions!?".

I'm guessing Rush was sympathetic and didn't throw out the obvious "because they're not rock-dumb you imbecile" response a normal person would give her?

He coddled her a bit, and half-heartedly agreed that the media should be asking these questions (cause media = evil, so he's got to agree to anything bad about them). Then went on to say that Ebola was spread through blood and mucus contact if you had open wounds yourself (failing to mention transmission through sweat, saliva, and pretty much any bodily liquid, I doubt they need open wounds). At the end before she finally gave up her little rant he mentioned that Ebola had pretty much one goal, to spread.

I kept hearing on NPR that they were less than a year away from mass producing an Ebola vaccine. That they had one working in monkeys that was moving on to human trials.

Did they just start trying for a vaccine, or is it just coincidence that the vaccine is almost ready now that this epidemic is occurring?

If my understanding was correct yes they were doing a limited trial in monkeys, but that's not something that would indicate they were a year away from mass production under normal circumstances. But given the thing kills such a high percentage of people they seem willing to cut corners, as they have already of course. Maybe they meant "in theory" or the like, I couldn't imagine them attempting mass production at this point (or even a year from now) unless there was an active major epidemic on our soil.

The piece on NPR said they had a vaccine working in monkeys, were moving on to Human trials soon and if they were successful they could be able to put it into production by next July.

Which is why I said they were cutting corners. It's not unusual for the various human trials phases to take 5-10 years. Here's a nice figure. Again, not that I blame them for rushing things along of course, a 60% untreated fatality rate certainly increases the urgency. Even having something that "kinda works" is better than nothing in that case, and its biggest benefit would probably be helping to calm any mass panic.

We could also argue that whatever version of this that starts circulating well in the human population would likely not have a 60% mortality rate however and argue for more stringent testing regardless. However that voice would likely be drowned out pretty quickly. Smiley: rolleyes

And what better human test subjects than a bunch of poor, sick, African nations? Even if they do rush the human testing, they'll have plenty of extra testing happening shortly there after.

I like that Donald Trump guy. He's clear-minded and cool under pressure.

Quote:
The New York Post proclaimed "Ebola fear is going viral" and quoted one of Donald Trump's tweets: "Ebola patient will be brought to the U.S. in a few days -- Now I know for sure that our leaders are incompetent. KEEP THEM OUT OF HERE!"

He should send people to Hawaii to do some Ebola research. It worked so well last time.

Rush just told me today that all the hubbub about the patients coming to the US was from "leftists". Who knew Trump was a big ole commie?

Rush also taught me today that "science is just a department of the Democrat Party".

Why would you need science when you can just pray your problems away? And if you have problems, you're just not praying hard enough.

I can't listen to Rush, or even read his stuff. He's just so nasty. I am however, on a tea party.org mailing list.

From yesterday's email...

teaparty.org wrote:
There’s no doubt Feds are shipping illegals from Ebola-struck countries across U.S. at taxpayer expense

..and more fear-mongering.

teaparty.org wrote:
Ebola, an incurable disease which can kill up to 90% of those it affects, is spreading throughout West Africa, hitting the countries of Nigeria, Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone the hardest, and right now citizens from these countries are flooding across America’s wide open border, according to a secret CBP report obtained by Breitbart.

Following up on the 'secret' Breitbart report, this is the headline:
Quote:
LEAKED CBP REPORT SHOWS ENTIRE WORLD EXPLOITING OPEN US BORDER
. That's as far as I got when spam starting filling up my screen. Talk about spreading unwanted stuff....
